New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Well done CheekyBiscuit
Anyone got any tips for avoiding blisters? I've not had one yet and have invested in fitted trainers and good socks (all the gear but no clue).

CaptainBraandPants · 05/01/2017 19:20

Kiss another reason to be thankful for the NHS plus they pay my wage Kick boxing sounds really hard, good luck with it.
Well done Thing. Oops about the price tag, never mind, I'm sure no-one noticed.
Emily I can't run for more than two runs on consecutive days, in fact at this stage I think I need the day off in-between each run. Be careful not to injure yourself. Also, it doesn't matter if it takes 9 weeks or 19, we'll all get there in the end.
Cheeky Ouch! Definitely deserve congratulations for finishing in those circumstances.
half I've never had blisters, good fitting running shoes and luck, I guess.

Just wanted to say good luck. I started C25k in sept and I'm now running 5k 3x a week Smile I couldn't run 2mins in sept. I'm 3stone overweight but love the buzz running gives me.
My top tip is the C25k has an app which u can run with your own music or the podcast which is all in one. I love strava app running too as i set it to cut in every 0.5k which motivates me and tells me my speed. Good luck you can do it!

halfgirlhalfturnip · 05/01/2017 21:04

Great encouragement Bikink007, just what we need!

jesstar · 06/01/2017 07:32

Week 1 complete! Bring on Week 2 ...

Thanks for all the positive stories and encouragement, I find it really helpful and motivating. If we can run in this cold weather, we can do anything! (Apart from snow, that would be a no-no for me.)

CaptainBraandPants · 06/01/2017 15:11

Thanks biking great success story.
Well done jess
I'm on a rest day today, which is just as well as I feel shattered. Hoping to start week 2 tomorrow, work permitting.

I've just started. very sore legs after W1D1. (and i couldnt do all of the runs i was supposed to)
the c25k app i'm using tells me when to walk and when to run, but i cant hear her tell me over the music!
is there a better app i could use?

halfgirlhalfturnip · 06/01/2017 15:56

I'm doing W1R1 tonight and am very apprehensive about managing the longer bursts of shuffling. Will report back if I survive.

jesstar · 06/01/2017 18:23

Finn I use the NHS podcast, it has music on it already which isn't too bad. I'm not sure if the music changes each week.

Half do you mean you're doing W2R1? Let us know how you get on tonight ... I'm a little anxious about moving up week by week but hopefully it won't be too bad.

CaptainBraandPants · 06/01/2017 18:41

Finn I'm another fan of the nhs podcast.
Half You'll be fine. If you are finding it too hard, slow down. And if you can't run for the whole time you should, then walk a bit. You'll soon get there. Good luck

halfgirlhalfturnip · 06/01/2017 19:07

Oops meant W2R1 - was not as bad as expected
Still knackered but really chuffed.

KickAssAngel · 06/01/2017 20:17

did W2 D3 today spurred on by a wanky and rage inducing conversation with Halifax bank. I am running a bit further now than when I first started but still quite nervous about starting kickboxing next week.

CaptainBraandPants · 06/01/2017 21:10

Well done half and Kick

waiting4inspiration · 06/01/2017 22:26

Well, I thought I had posted today, but apparently not! W1D3 finished. Found it hard to actually get out of the house, but once the second run was done and dusted I settled in to it. Looking forward to starting W2 on Sunday - pleased to hear it isn't as bad as expected halfgirl.

squirrels89 · 07/01/2017 06:48

I did 5 weeks of it but had to stop due to injury before xmas. I want to start again but I'm wary of further problems, how slow should I take it this time? Repeat wk 5? Start again?

grannycake · 07/01/2017 07:36

W1D3 finally done - put it off for a couple of days (flimsy excuses) so today or never. On to Wk2 on Tuesday. Well done to everyone doing this

CaptainBraandPants · 07/01/2017 09:02

Well done granny and waiting.
squirrels doing too much too soon can cause injury, so I wouldn't restart at week 5. Maybe compromise and try week 3?

Off to do w2d1 later, when I've finished my coffee and moved my arse off the sofa!

Thingvellir · 07/01/2017 09:32

I'm due to do W1R2 today, but still aching from R1 on Thursday! Actually worse today than it was yesterday but I think that's just a sign of how out of shape I am.

Feeling a bit miserable about it right now but determined to get out and do it when I have time this afternoon. Hope the rain stops by then...

Thingvellir · 07/01/2017 09:33

Good luck with W2R1 Captain!**

CaptainBraandPants · 07/01/2017 11:52

Thanks for the pompoms Thing. They the best thing to do if you are stiff and achy after a run is to go on another run. Grin Good luck for this afternoon and ,pompoms. for you.
I did it, but it was bloody hard. I'm not a morning person runner, but knew I would struggle to find time later, so had to get out there. I struggled to finish the las 90 second run, but I did, just.
Will try to run next on Monday, although both Monday and Tuesday are busy days at work, so might end up being a 9-10pm run, which I'm not so keen on either.

Wk2 r1 done Grin It was on the treadmill but I am building up to getting outside soon . I just feel really weird and anxious about seeing anyone I know .

I really enjoyed doing it today and I carried on until I got to 5k ( very slowly walking and jogging ) but I am hoping that it will give me a boost to remember how far I have come in a few weeks when I am struggling to keep motivated . Which for me is an inevitable !

ChickenPoop · 07/01/2017 13:50

Late to the party but I'm in. I use the Active c25k app.

Completed w1d1 on Thursday evening and going out to do d2 in half an hour or so. I usually aim to run every other day.

This will be the third time I've completed the programme Blush. This time I just need to keep it going after the 5k, I find it far too easy to get out of the exercise habit...

stegosauruslady · 07/01/2017 15:43

Hello! I'm starting partway in, so I'll be doing week 5 run 2 tomorrow morning. I did w5r1 earlier this week. I'm using the zombies, run app, which is insanely motivating! I run on a treadmill during winter, as I have cra,zy balance problems which make me fall over a lot while running outside!

ChickenPoop · 07/01/2017 15:50

W1D2 complete. I added a few untimed intervals at the end as I think it helps to build stamina for those long runs in the future. Currently I think I'm going too fast (5:45mins per km) so will no doubt slow that down by week 3 or 4...

I also had what I can only describe as an abdominal stitch for the duration of the run. Bitter experience tells me it's because I need to strengthen my core/hip flexors, sigh...
