New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

well done halfgirlhalfneep hope week 2 goes well! Also in Scotland (NE) so dress cosy-its nippy oot! Grin

Ice3 · 10/01/2017 17:57

I just did W1D1 again. It was much easier this time around. I need to sort out some better music though.

jesstar · 10/01/2017 18:54

Thanks Captain, hoping W2R2 is easier tomorrow. I feel bad now complaining about the cold when some of you (half , evil) are in Scotland! I'm down south, hoping we don't get snow as I wouldn't run in the snow and really want to keep going three times a week.

Really want to lose a few kilos, but I'm not sure what diet plan to combine with C25K ... have tried various things in the past but nothing sticks. So at the moment am trying to 'eat healthily' but I'm not sure that's going to cut it by itself.

Good luck to everyone through the bad weather and beyond Wink

KickAssAngel · 11/01/2017 02:25

I survived kickboxing, although def. less fit than others there. I was worried it would be full of 20 something gym fanatics, but it's mainly middle aged women, including a friend of mine that I didn't know was interested.

I fear that I wasn't exactly Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I had fun.

jesstar · 11/01/2017 08:46

W2R2 done this morning, not easier than on Monday but no harder. Not feeling too sore, I think my main stamina limitations are getting short of breath easily.

I did some kickboxing many years ago, it was really tough but a great workout ... may be that's something I should try again. One thing at a time though ...

beanhunter · 11/01/2017 09:22

Won't manage a run today as on a course for work. Have done some at home exercises though and will go to the gym in the morning to do it on the treadmill. What speeds do I use?

porsmork · 11/01/2017 10:10

Could I join you guys? I did ct5k back in the summer, and finished it, but due to constant illness over Oct/Nov/Dec, I fell off the wagon. I've started again, and just done Wk4r2. I actually managed to add on another 5 minutes after the last run, so maybe fitness hasn't totally disappeared.
It is hard to find the time to do it though. I'm not confident about going out after dark (I'm shortsighted so the world would be very blurry!) and am a SAHM to toddler, so it's only when he's at nursery or at weekends I can do it. Really, really want to stick with it though. I get such a high after doing a run, and, having low-level depression, it really helps me to keep going.
I'd love to do a 10k one day, but aiming first to do a 5k race for life in June.

CaptainBraandPants · 11/01/2017 14:04

I hope you don't get too much snow evil and half I am in the east midlands and we are hopefully going to miss it. I tried running in snow once. Didn't work at all and I was home again within minutes Sad
Well done ice and kick
jess i'm glad it wasn't harder. maybe next time will be easier?
bean It is difficult to say, depends how fast you run Grin I would guess somewhere between 8 and 9 km/hr.
Welcome pors Sounds as if you did really well with your run.

I am hoping to do w2r3 tonight, but with various commitments, I reckon it will be at 8.30 - 9.30pm at the earliest, which as I've said before is not my favourite time to run. I'm short sighted, too pors but the route I take at night is quite well lit, so I haven't bumped into anything yet.

Well done everyone and KOKO.

Well done everyone!

I'm feeling better now and went out to do what I thought was going to be D1 W2, but when I looked at the app I realised that there are 3 runs per week not 4, so I'd actually already done D1 W2. No wonder it seemed a bit harder than I expected!

So I went straight onto D2 W2 today and it was fine. The weather was mild and sunny and it wasn't too busy though I did catch sight of someone I knew so went in the opposite direction and hoped they didn't notice me. I'm not that keen for anyone who knows me to see me puffing slowly away.

When I did C25K previously I found I didn't mind seeing people I knew, partly because by that stage I could just speed past them with a wave.

Life is both busy and unusually stressful at the moment and I think it's doing me good to get some exercise in the open air. I hope I can stick at it.

waiting4inspiration · 11/01/2017 18:14

Well, it sounds like everyone is progressing nicely. Seen some horrendous after-effects of the weather on the news this afternoon so hope everyone is keeping safe.

W2R1 completed yesterday and with the threat of snow here and no chance to run tomorrow I set off for W2D2. Struggled with the last 30 seconds of the last two 90 second runs. Finding the W2 music rather bland too, anyone else?

ChickenPoop · 11/01/2017 18:30

W2D1 complete (90sec run/2min walking for 21 mins). It went fine and I ran about half of the cool down (this cocky extra homework won't last). Back out again on Fri.

Well done to everyone else, keep it up!

beanhunter · 11/01/2017 20:07

Right am slow. Like really slow. There is no way I could have managed those speed so. Wk4 r2 done. Really hard and really struggled. Not run inside before either. Unless the final run of the week on Saturday is miraculously easier I am going to be repeating this week.
On the plus side it means I avoided the pre dinner networking event at my conference !

bijouxxx · 11/01/2017 21:10

Bean when I started out on a treadmill I was doing 6.5 k/ph, it was easier slightly slower but that seemed to make my legs hurt.

beanhunter · 11/01/2017 21:43

6.5 was what I ended up doing after the first one at 7. And the final one was 6.3.

Evilstepmum01 · 12/01/2017 00:15

oh dear, hacking cough, flu and snow/gales meant I've missed tonight, only my second run :( Wk1R2 =nope.

Cant do it now til Fri or Sat, can I do week one twice to ease me in gently?

IsItOnTheTrolley · 12/01/2017 08:13

Can I join in please?🤓

Started this week with DH, am just about to do Wk1 R3, but on my own.

Bit tricky as we're in the sticks and so on single track lanes with no pavements. Will wait until school traffic has died down. Fingers crossed.

IsItOnTheTrolley · 12/01/2017 10:27

Wk1R3 completed in the icy rain.

Bumped into 2 neighbours on the lane at the end, not my finest moment, can't wait until it's lighter then I can legitimately wear sunglasses...

I walk at 4 kph and 'run' at 6, but now nudging that up to 6.2.

Last time I did this I found that once I could do 5 mins at a time, I could then start going faster.

beanhunter · 12/01/2017 14:32

Thanks kickass. That's helpful! I walked at 5 and mostly ran at 6.5.

jesstar · 13/01/2017 10:13

Really disappointed that I couldn't go out today for my run, don't fancy falling over on the ice! Not sure when the road conditions will be better, but hopefully will get back on track on Sunday? May need to repeat a session or two, but I'm not in a hurry to get to the end anyway.

KickAssAngel · 13/01/2017 14:14

W3D2 done. It was the same as the previous one (1.5, 2 x 2.5 then 1.5) but my legs were feeling it by the end.

The next one is another jump up and I'm not sure whether to do it or whether to just repeat this one again. It'll be 1 x 2 min, 2 x 3 min, then 1 x 2 min.

I should be able to d 3 mins shouldn't I? How hard can it be?

halfgirlhalfturnip · 13/01/2017 17:32

I should do W3D1 tonight but am terrified. Was hoping snow would be an issue but I think it is clear on the path I use so I am going to go for it. Looked on the NHS site to see what to expect and it says 5 mins warm up, 2 90 sec run 90 sec walk, then 2 3 min run 3 min walk.. So scared!!!! Well done KickAss

halfgirlhalfturnip · 13/01/2017 20:57

W3D1 done!!! ✅
I took on board the hedge advice, and passing cars would be forgiven for thinking I was not actually running, but it was actually okay.

CaptainBraandPants · 14/01/2017 10:34

Morning all. Sorry i've been missing in action since Wednesday, but work/ life has been hectic. I should really have had a run last night, but it was cold and miserable, as was I! I am going to do w3r1 today and if I don't feel too bad, might try d2 tomorrow, but we'll see.

Welcome trolley Don't worry about bumping into people you know - I bet they weren't running.
Kick yes, you can run for 3 minutes. Honestly.
half Yay! Well done. Bet you didn't think you could do that three weeks ago?
