New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

So bwatch? Did you do it??

BWatchWatcher · 07/05/2017 08:20

I did!
It was a long and winding one.
At one point I could see the finish and was all 'THANK GOD' and then the wretched path kept going because we had another kilometer to go.
I did run the majority though.
Going to have breakfast and then poke my son for junior parkrun.

I haven't been at all since my last post. Just posting to shame myself really. Had the last 2 weeks of high-stress tight-schedule work, however, so am hoping to sort myself out again this week. I really need to work out how to keep going when my schedule is busy, though, as that's always when it drops - and when it starts dropping, I go straight to nothing very quickly.

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 08/05/2017 18:14

W5D2 done this afternoon. I managed to keep running a bit longer after the second 8 minute run was done, as I had a bit further to go to get home, I think I did about 12 minutes altogether before I stopped to walk to cool down.

Pinkvici22 · 08/05/2017 20:09

I can't believe it. I've just done W8 R2 which means my next run will be 5k!Grin

BWatchWatcher · 08/05/2017 23:29

Yheyyyy @Pinkvici22!!! You are a machine!!
Great news @Weewilliewinkie! You're back out there! Well done!
I have put my kit down next to my bed. Maybe I'll do a 6am run. Maybe!!

BWatchWatcher · 09/05/2017 09:05

6am run done. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it woukd be.

Pinkvici22 · 09/05/2017 17:22

Well done B 6am...very impressive!
I've been for a long walk....doing W8, R3 tomorrow.

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 10/05/2017 12:29

Oooh good luck today Pink!

I wish I could get out for 6am. I have done in the past but it doesn't happen often. I do feel better for running in the morning. My husband often gets up early to go for a run, but he's an early bird whereas I am definitely not. And we can't go out at the same time as we have a little one.

W5D3 here today, so a 20 min run I think? Will see how I get on. I'll be going out this evening when husband is home.

CaptainBraandPants · 10/05/2017 12:43

BWatch ans Pink well done.
Wee enjoy your 20 minute run, it is not as bad as it sounds.

I did w6r1 yesterday. Cardiovascularly, it was fine. However, I felt very uncoordinated and never really loosened up. Finished the run and was doing a bit extra as I was still a distance from home, and fell over. Got up, ran for another 3 minutes and fell over again Blush Rather spectacular, public, twist and skid. Now have impressively grazed and bruised knees, palms and elbow.
Oh well, wasn't planning on running today anyway - hopefully won't be too sore to go out tomorrow.

Pinkvici22 · 10/05/2017 18:50

Oh no Captain hope you're ok. Well done on doing the extra though.

I did just over 6km this morning - ran for just over 5k of it. Was exhausting and I'm quite slow but really pleased I did it.

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 10/05/2017 20:15

Just in from my w5d3 run! I did it! I even kept going a little bit more and did 3 miles in total with walking at the beginning and end. Took me 42 minutes. So pleased :)

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 10/05/2017 20:16

Although Runkeeper went funny and decided I actually did it in 25 minutes, which is just ridiculous. It said 42 mins when I stopped it at the end, then I went into the app and it decided it was 25. Apparently I ran at 8 mins per mile. I wish.

BazingaBaby · 10/05/2017 20:47

Hi all. @CaptainBraandPants I hope you're not too sore after your falls?

So...... I finished the 9 weeks! Genuinely couldn't have done it without you all, thank you for being my inspiration and getting me off my huge butt! Ran without podcast today and set my Apple Watch for 5km, took me 55mins so I'm still slow and did take a couple of walking breaks but I'm so glad I did it!

What to do now though? I feel a little lost without Laura Grin lol!

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 10/05/2017 21:13

Amazing Bazinga well done! Have you done any parkruns?

My target once I've completed the program is to get my time to around 30/35 minutes then I'd love to build up to 10k.

CaptainBraandPants · 10/05/2017 21:29

Thanks everyone, I'm bruised and battered, but not seriously injured. no excuse not to run tomorrow.
Pink and Bazinga both brilliant, well done.
Wee I think finishing week 5 is a bit of a landmark. If you can do that, you can run for 30 minutes.
Bazinga I agree about parkruns. My aims are similar to Wee's. My favourite running route (to try and avoid the worse of the hills) is between 6.5 - 8km, depending which route I take. So, I want o build up to that 2-3 times a week, with perhaps a longer 10km run once a week.

BazingaBaby · 10/05/2017 21:57

Thanks @WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles and @CaptainBraandPants. I haven't done a parkrun, I checked the times for my local one and I'd be last (well there was one person slower last weekend) and I hate the idea of being the last one. I know someone has to be last but I haven't quite felt brave enough yet.

Well done @Pinkvici22 sounds like you're doing fab!

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 10/05/2017 23:03

I didn't realise you could see parkrun results online. Just looked at my nearest one that I keep meaning to do. How on earth do people do it in 15 minutes?! They must fly round!

CaptainBraandPants · 11/05/2017 10:53

I looked at my local parkrun. There were about 4 people who were over an hour. Otherwise, a fairly constant stream of people from 17 minutes (wow) to about 50 minutes.
Bazinga As that is your first 5km, I bet you will be able to improve your time pretty quickly and once you are 45-50 minutes, I doubt you'd be last. Not that it matters, as it's not a race.
Have you seen this image before? I think it is fab and very much in the spirit of parkrun.

Going to do w6r2 tonight and my aim is to stay upright Grin.

I have started this week. Completed D3W1 this morning!

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 12/05/2017 16:52

Well done Vitty! Welcome to the group 😊

VittysCardigan · 12/05/2017 18:53

Thank you, it's going well so far

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 13/05/2017 11:02

I went out and did my first parkrun this morning :) I was hoping for around 40 minutes and I managed 41:09 according to my Strava. Will see what my 'official' parkrun time is in a bit when they post the results! The course is two laps of a local park, I think I was lapped twice by the super fast runners who can do it in like 17 minutes! 😂

VittysCardigan · 13/05/2017 11:36

Well done! I haven't got a park run close to me, nearest is a 15 min drive & I haven't passed my test yet (not too much longer though I hope).

WeeWillyWinkieFromEccles · 15/05/2017 21:07

Week 6 run 2 done today. I struggled with this one, my legs just didn't seem to want to keep going.

I always thought my lungs would be the issue as I'm asthmatic and exercise has always been one of my triggers. Turns out I can run perfectly fine now without getting wheezy, it's just my calf muscles that don't want to do it! Stupid legs...
