New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Week7R1 done and my knees are making weird noises :( I didn't have time to do Yoga so am all crumpled. Gahhh

Tsotofamily · 03/04/2017 10:27

Tried to attempt w8r1 last night but only managed 14 mins my ankle was hurting again so think I'm going to have to take a longer break from running. I may have to stay clear from the thread for few weeks otherwise I'll be itching to go out Sad

Keep up with all the hard work

BWatchWatcher · 03/04/2017 22:07

Awww @Tsotofamily. I'm so sorry.
Keep off your ankle and hopefully it won't be too long until you're back!FlowersWineCake to you.

Esssa · 04/04/2017 05:27

Tsoto that sounds rubbish for you. Hopefully you can rest it and be back running in no time.

Bwatch I know how you feel with the knees. Strangely enough they are the two joints that usually give me no problems but I'm slathering arnica gel on then on a fairly regular basis due to aches and pains, generally first thing as I try to sit on the loo! Definitely hurts then! Also hope you keep up with your son! It's not far but it's usually fast!

Out for a run last night, 6 mins run 2 mins walk. Was supposed to be 4 times but I decided to keep going and 5.5 times got me to 5k. My pace was off, almost 1 minute/km slower than my last run but I finished in 43'27" which I don't think was too shabby for a first attempt. As ever well done for getting out there. It's the effort that counts, everyone is a super Star

BWatchWatcher · 04/04/2017 09:33

W7R2 done! Yheyyy

Esssa · 04/04/2017 10:24

25 minutes and no stopping, you are a machine bwatch! Congrats

Iwannasnack · 04/04/2017 12:11

W6R3 done here. Borrowed DH's garmin watch thing which says I'm averaging 12-13 mins a mile. So 5k would currently take 36-39 mins. Don't know why I'm feeling rubbish for being so slow, I couldn't run for more than 90 seconds a few weeks ago. Well done us!!

Madcats · 04/04/2017 20:41

Well done you wk6/7''ers above (I STILL need to do wk6r3 - I am sat here drinking wine and eating Pringles Blush).

@Iwanna I'm quite slow too (DD did her first junior 2k park run in 9mins whereas I think I would probably need to take about 12-15 mins). I take comfort in the fact that I laughed hysterically at the thought of being able to jog/run for more than about 2 minutes when I started this app; look how we have progressed).

Baby steps...baby steps...but getting a bit faster and fitter (except during school hols, in my case!).

troubleatmill2011 · 04/04/2017 22:27

So I'm a newbie, week 1, run 3 done. I hadn't ran since I was at school and I'm
mid 40's. I cannot believe I'm doing it and feel very proud. I'm overweight and losing weight too. Any other really unfit people out there on week 1?

Iwannasnack · 05/04/2017 02:11

Well done trouble. I was a really unfit person on week 1 not long ago. Now a slightly fitter one about to start on week 7. I can't believe I can run for over 25 minutes and wouldn't have believed you if you told me a few weeks ago what I'd be doing now.

BazingaBaby · 05/04/2017 16:00

I really need to get W6R2 done but the sofa won't let me go! Sad

BazingaBaby · 05/04/2017 17:44

So I managed it. Last run with walking breaks! Am scared for the next few weeks now, keep having to remind myself that 7weeks ago I struggled running 60secs! Avg pace this time was 10'56"/km so still slow but have decided to try and not let it bug me so much.

Well done @Mallowmarshmallow , @Madcats , @Iwannasnack , @BWatchWatcher and @Esssa !! You're all doing fab, my inspiration.

@Tsotofamily I hope you're resting up and can come back soon xx

Keep going Trouble, I'm also overweight and as unfit as they come, genuinely couldn't do week one to start with and had to do it twice but am now on week 6 and feeling much better when I look back. You can do it!

Madcats · 05/04/2017 18:37

A celebratory Gin or Wine for Bazing.

To get my butt moving I'm challenging myself to do 3 runs before Easter (or my family don't have to share their chocolate eggs with me)!

Mallowmarshmallow · 06/04/2017 09:17

Well done Bazing. I know how you feel though, the next few weeks look daunting.

It looks like you, me and Iwanna are at very similar stages.

I'll be running w7d1 on Saturday.

Trouble, 7 weeks ago I was as unfit as they come. I tried c25k a few years ago and couldn't manage the runs on the first day so wasn't terribly optimistic when I started out again but I've kept going and have been committed to three runs a week (even if I have to go at 5.30am or 7.30pm to fit them around the kids).

You can absolutely do it. There will be harder points. I've found some weeks really tough and I have repeated a couple of runs when I felt I couldn't move on and didn't want to feel demotivated. However, I've done that far less than I had imagined I would need to.

Iwannasnack · 06/04/2017 18:11

W7R1 done this morning. Anyone else thinking of moving away from the program? I was meant to run for 25mins but actually managed over 30 (only because I was running downhill at the end). Now that we've finished the intervals it feels a bit pointless. Think I might plot a 5k run and work on my pace.
Next run at some point this weekend. Not sure whether to brave parkrun again. Would ideally like to be a bit faster first but I guess that will never happen unless I push myself.
Well done everyone else, especially to everyone near the beginning. Keep on running!!

BWatchWatcher · 07/04/2017 09:41

I have done nothing since Tuesday as I have a cold sniff sniff!
Glad to see everyone else up and about!
By the way if you're on facebook, the run mummy run group is brilliant!

BWatchWatcher · 07/04/2017 09:42

@Iwannasnack, I just want to complete it and then move on.
There were a good few apps upthread I think for after the couch to 5k is done.

Iwannasnack · 07/04/2017 11:13

@bwatchwatcher hope you feel better soon. Yes I've done a bit of lurking on the 5 to 10k thread, all seems a bit advanced at the moment but then the thought of running for 20 minutes was laughable a few weeks ago.
I think I'm going to attempt parkrun again in the morning. Someone's got to be last right?!

Iwannasnack · 08/04/2017 17:03

Well parkrun done. 5k no walking in 35m 49s. Obviously right down the bottom of the results page but I'm delighted with it!
Hope everyone else is managing to get out there.

BWatchWatcher · 08/04/2017 21:11

Well done @Iwannasnack!
Very proud of you!!!

BazingaBaby · 11/04/2017 19:17

Not run since Wednesday last week! Just off for W6 R3, wish me luck!

New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?
BWatchWatcher · 11/04/2017 20:59

Go go go@BazingaBaby!!

Iwannasnack · 11/04/2017 22:39

Well done @bazingababy. Hope it went well

Mallowmarshmallow · 12/04/2017 08:42

I did w7r3 this morning and almost managed 5k. I'm building up the courage to do a park run.

If I manage it in about 35/40 minutes will I be at the very back?!

SkiBike007 · 12/04/2017 08:48

Your all doing brilliantly- I started C25k in sept and was gob smacked I reached 5k in December. There are few of us on the bridge 5k to 10k thread if you fancy joining us Smile I switched from the NHS C25k app to using strava and my music once I got past 20mins as it kicks in every 0.5k with a time and logs all my splits. I did recent try the NHS podcast 5k stamina which was good for trying to get bit faster. I've learnt not to worry if I still walk 60secs a couple of times as it helps me build distance and speed. I've not hit 10k yet (8.5k) my longest as illness & sore hips kept knocking me but I'm really enjoying doing a solid 5-6k Smile I'm still size 16/18 though!
