New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Keep going Madcats!

Thanks Mallow, I need to keep this going and just need I think to remember like you said 7 weeks ago I found 60sec difficult.

BWatch you're doing fab! I'm going to finish the programme and maybe then do some of the 5k plus podcasts as there's a few to help improve speed and stamina so will help me I think as I'm still slow as!

Congrats on Parkrun IWanna! That's a fab time!

Skibike, sounds like you're doing awesome. I'm looking forward to finishing these 9wks and hopefully getting to 5k, though that feels a way away still.

So I managed Wk6R3, didn't feel so bad looking back but my pace is still low @ 10'30"/km. Wondering if I'll ever get quicker right now Sad

Madcats · 12/04/2017 15:05

Oh Bazing, I've just done that run (told you all I was slacking off a bit). I started off very slowly (as haven't run for almost a fortnight Blush), and had to hang about for a busy junction, but it felt so much better than the earlier ones in week 6. I can see that I even got a bit faster for the last km.

With the 5 minute warm up and cool down I managed 4.56km (then runtastic crashed in shock so it possibly was 5k by the time I made it to the front door).

Laura very kindly observed that, because I had run for 25mins non-stop, I could call myself a runner.

Mallow you can check out the recent running times for your local parkrun on their website (and I am sure everybody will be really friendly and encouraging).

For the comparative newbies, please don't be disheartened in the earlier weeks. I really have been astonished that running 5k seems quite achievable now.

Iwannasnack · 13/04/2017 21:48

Ahh Worst. Run. Ever this afternoon. Did the same route as I did on Tuesday but was struggling almost straight away. Had to walk for a bit at only 12 mins. Then my pelvic floor was struggling despite having been for a wee just before I left. Had to do a little alfresco squat in the bushes Blush. Was so paranoid making sure no-one was around that I didn't notice the stinging nettles...Shock
Even after that I had to run walk home and there was some ahem, leakage.
Sorry for the rant and oversharing. Feel like hanging up my running shoes for good. Sad

BWatchWatcher · 13/04/2017 23:26

Nooo @Iwannasnack you have been doing brilliantly!
Keep at it!!

Iwannasnack · 15/04/2017 08:51

Thanks bwatch. Reluctantly about to do parkrun. Slightly terrified. It will either be fine or possibly my last ever run.

Deianira · 15/04/2017 11:28

I'm back again, and determined to stick at it this time, so thought I'd come get some motivation from this thread. Over the summer I completed the programme, but then I got a new job in August, and basically stopped. I've restarted as of last week but am struggling with motivation a lot - managed to restart at week 4, as week 3 was too easy but having said that, am finding week 4 very hard! I think I'm partly discouraged by how bad I've got since stopping - which is silly, but it gets to me. I've also put on weight since, due to eating badly due to the stress of the new job, which doesn't help. Heading off for Week 4 run 3 in half an hour or so, and hoping that posting here keeps me accountable!

Esssa · 15/04/2017 11:51

Just done my first parkrun this morning, waiting for times but should be somewhere around 36.30 I think. Was bloody hard. First time running has made me feel ill. Had to walk a good 4-5 times too. But I did it. Hats off to you iwanna for getting round yours without stopping!

Iwannasnack · 15/04/2017 16:16

Parkrun done! PB 34:14 so very happy. So much easier this week. Felt like I was properly in the rhythm for the first time. Guess I won't hang up my running shoes quite yet.

Well done deianira starting is the hardest and you know you can do it because you've done it once before.

Well done on parkrun Esssa. That's a brilliant time if you're walking as well. I slowly plod around but can see people well ahead of me walking so I'm very slow. Oh well we're beating the people sitting at home.

Hope everyone has a good Easter. I'm now off to eat ALL the chocolate. Can't understand why I'm not losing weight despite all this running Wink Cake Chocolate Chocolate

Madcats · 15/04/2017 17:58

Hi Delarnira. I found it massively helpful to tell people that I was doing C25k. It is astonishing how supportive some people I barely know have been (and on here too!).

Well done to the Essa and Iwanna. I might have to look at my parkrun route after I finished wk7 (but can't imagine that I'd be speedy).

One more run to go before I get my easter egg (am tempted to just run round the local rec multiple times as I think my normal routes will be full of bikes/families/dogs tomorrow).

Does anybody jog to podcasts/talking books? If runtastic is anything to go by I run at a very erratic pace (sad person that wants to keep in time to whatever I am listening to).

Bazing have you finished wk7 yet? And a brief hello to ski (I'll need to linger here for another month or 2, but useful to know there is another thread).

Sweet treats tomorrow, have a good Easter break everybody

Deianira · 15/04/2017 19:22

Thanks all! I appreciate the support.

Congratulations to those doing parkrun, that's very exciting! That's always been my aim eventually, but every time I get to 5k (twice) I promptly stop, so that definitely needs not to happen this time...

I went out about 5 hours after originally planned in the end, but at least I did it! W4R3, and for the first time this week actually completed (this run is the same all week on my programme)! I will probably repeat it on Monday to make sure it's definitely there, but today was the first time I felt like running was a manageable thing I can do again, so I'm counting that as progress!

Deianira · 15/04/2017 19:24

@Madcats I used to run to podcasts, but as I progressed past 20 minutes I found music easier to keep going with, so switched to that. I found that podcasts made me slow right down while I was thinking, and so I lost momentum quite badly. I've stuck with music ever since!

Iwannasnack · 15/04/2017 20:01

Madcats ive been running to podcasts as I found them more distracting than music. Today's parkrun was the first time I ditched it and didn't listen to anything and it was actually much better. I was more 'in the moment' as such and chatted to a few people on the way round. Not sure what I'll do when I'm on my own again yet.

Ran again today - w5r1! Bizarrely, I even got up early to do it, which is very unlike me (I usually run on days when I work at home so can go just before lunch). This is a run I like - although they're hard at the time, I prefer fewer intervals, as the stop-start things are oddly harder for me. I know what's looming at the end of w5, however, so might stay on this one a while...

BazingaBaby · 21/04/2017 21:00

Hi guys!! Have been so busy over Easter I barely ran Blush Actually have ended up feeling a bit crappy and missing it a lot. Did my first Wk7 run on Tuesday and failed miserably. Stopped after 5mins and walked for a minute before running again but just couldn't keep myself going Sad Wk7R2 today and felt much better although pace was shockingly slow Blush I will get back on track though and not give up, can you send a rocket to shift me on Sunday? Hahaha.

You're all doing so fab, will catch up properly when I get a few more minutes but keep it up!! Wine

BWatchWatcher · 21/04/2017 21:06

Gahhh @BazingaBaby I was the same.
We went away for Easter and spent a lot of time sitting on my butt and not running.
I did bring my running stuff though with me :) but there was nowhere to run.
I have a 3 mile 'fun run' in just over a week.
GahhhhShock
Running tomorrow as it's dark now.
Stupid dark.

BWatchWatcher · 22/04/2017 12:26

I re-did the last bit of W6 today as I thought that doing W7 and 25 minutes after such a long break was setting me up to fail. It went ok!
Sending the rocket 🚀 that helped me over to you @BazingaBaby!

BWatchWatcher · 23/04/2017 18:19

W7D2 re done today.
How are we doing folks?

Madcats · 23/04/2017 20:48

Oh, I have become a bit of a slacker. What with skipping Easter I coped with wk7r1...then missed a week and wondered why I was struggling with r2. I convinced myself it was okay to give up after 20 minutes' running, rather than jog up and down to where I needed to be.

Well done to Bwatch. I should have gone back too, I suspect.

I need to get my butt a kick so I can do a 5k in June.

A very belated hello to After and Deian who might have wandered off. Please keep going with this. It really does make a difference.

Tsotofamily · 23/04/2017 21:54

Glad to see ur all still going. I'm going to get out and do a run tomorrow after 3 or 4 weeks off due to my ankle. Not sure where I should startHmm might see how long I can manage first thename walk for few mins before finishing the rest (aiming for 28 mins running in total)

Mallowmarshmallow · 24/04/2017 07:51

Hi all

I'm staying in a (naice) hotel in London on Tuesday night so have the choice of having a run on a treadmill or around London, which would you choose?

I've never run on a treadmill before.

Madcats · 24/04/2017 10:28

Mallow I have no idea how to use a treadmill and would quite possibly fall off. I suppose trying it somewhere you are unlikely to return is a good strategy!
I do enjoy having a good nose around when running though. Are you anywhere near Hyde Park? That's a nice place to explore (as are many of the London parks). Or maybe run along the Southbank (though that is probably busy)

My extended week 7 isn't really going to plan (I think this is my 4th run - I keep misjudging distance and finding myself temptingly close to home after about 20 minutes and giving up).

Good luck with the next run Tsoto.

Deianira · 24/04/2017 14:52

I haven't quite wandered off, but have had a really hectic week (and was away for a couple of days), so haven't been out since the last one... aiming for tomorrow morning to resume (or tonight if I can escape work early, but that's looking unlikely). Do hold me to it!

I would run around London - I love running in new places when I'm away (my highlight was around Lake Geneva!), it's a great way to explore! Just make sure you've worked out a route and a vague idea of how you'll avoid getting lost first.

Iwannasnack · 24/04/2017 20:54

Glad to see everyone's still going. I started 5-10K this week so moving on! Did my 4th park run this week and it's getting easier and easier each time. Faster too. I'm seriously considering signing up for the great south run but will see if can get to 10K first. This is about the 3rd time I've attempted the program over the years and still can't believe I'm actually doing it. If I can do it anyone can so keep at it.

@madcats now I'm trying to increase my distance I've stopped my usual routes and just run in one direction until the app tells me I'm half way. Would that help?

BazingaBaby · 24/04/2017 21:08

@BWatchWatcher thanks for the rocket, I dodged out on Sunday in favour of trying to get back to my normal routine (figured I find it easier to stick to that way so better back to routine sooner than later). So today was W7R3 and my 11yo came with me and scooted alongside. He talked so much I barely noticed my legs were sore til 20 mins in! Pace is getting back to where I was before Easter so feeling better on the whole.

@Tsotofamily good to see you're back. Don't go too hard on yourself to start with and I'm sure you'll be fine, take care and good luck!!

@Mallowmarshmallow id love to have the confidence to run around London, it would be such a fab place to explore while Laura makes me suffer another 25mins hahaha! Enjoy!

@Madcats keep going, you can do it!

@Deianira lake Geneva, wow. Sounds amazing! Hope your run went well xx

Well done on another Parkrun @Iwannasnack you're awesome, keep going. How's the 5-10k plan? Is that Nhs too??

Keep going everyone, sorry those I've missed, you're all doing so well just getting out there to start with. Remember, you don't have to go fast, you just have to go xxxxxx
