Well no excuses for not training today, the instructor is on holiday so I am taking out kettlebell class at tea time...

Just need to work out what we are doing now 😕

DeliciousIrony · 03/01/2017 15:47

After 10 days of drinking wine and eating chocolate resting, I feel very sluggish, so am trying to ease back into it. Started with 30-Day Shred L1 today, and 10 mins with the weighted hula hoop, and found the 2kg handweights more than sufficient!

I've also succumbed to temptation and ordered Jillian's Body Revoltuion, as I spotted it on Ebay for a lot less than Amazon. I will try and start that towards the end of January with the aim of completing it by early May (when I have a wedding to attend), and then go onto Bodyshred Smile

sailinggirl1780 · 03/01/2017 16:31

So....back at work and looking out at the dark wondering how I'll get the motivation to get out there once I'm home!
Planning on putting some bolognese on a low heat, saying a quick hello to ds(13) and telling my running partner (of the 4 legged kind) that we are going out, as she will then hassle me until we do!! Hope my head torch still works Grin
Any others trying to fit exercise round teenagers, school runs and full time work?

Wildernesstips · 03/01/2017 17:42

Managed to squeeze a tiny 30 min walk in at lunchtime today, not even very fast as the ground was still quite icy and I was in my office footwear! But better than nothing.

Wow RJ have you taken the class before?

OublietteBravo · 03/01/2017 19:00

I'm fitting exercise in around school runs and full time work sailinggirl - I don't have any teenagers yet though.

I managed to find enough motivation to do NMTZ this evening - I expect to ache tomorrow.

Time: 2h 10min
Days: 3

Done it a couple of times wilderness, I'm next in line now when the instructor is off. It makes me rather nervous. However I haven't killed or injured anyone so far!

Oub can I count down like you did last year?

1/249

Ouch that's a long way to go!

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2017 19:03

I have teenagers and a full time job too btw! Makes the training even more important to stop me going round the bend😬

OublietteBravo · 03/01/2017 19:40

Be my guest RJ - IIRC it was Kanye who devised that method of counting.

Body Rev workout 4 done. I won't manage to bike twice this week - didn't dare this morning as it was so icy, I'm out tomorrow evening and I'm giving blood on Thursday, so the only remaining possible day is Friday. However, I'm on track with the Jillian.

Delicious, I'd be delighted to be your Bodyshred buddy! I started Body Rev before Christmas and am aiming to do each pair of workouts for two weeks, or until I can do a full set of each exercise with good form and without modifying (so I might conceivably be through them all by early May... then again, I might not: I can't imagine ever being able to do a wheel push-up). I don't bother with the cardio discs: I did them the first time I did Body Rev and all they did was make me grumpy. I reckon I'm getting enough cardio from cycling.

sailinggirl, I don't have a teenager but do have a primary-age child and a full time job. I aim to get up early and exercise before anyone else is up. I've failed more often than not this winter, but hope it gets easier as the mornings get lighter.

sailinggirl1780 · 03/01/2017 23:09

Early mornings are definitely the way forward. I have to leave the house by 7.30 for the school run so it's a bit dark at the moment! Going to try a run at 6.30 tomorrow and see if it's light enough (roads round here are unlit) I'll run with the dog too, she's got far better eyesight than me!!!
Am in the process of negotiating lunchtime running with my employer so that would help!
And I haven't really posted much so no idea how to tag people in a post to say thank you, can you do that on mn??

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/01/2017 23:14

sailinggirl, no teenagers here and I work part time but I do have DDs age 3 and 6. When I'm not at work (except a precious Friday morning in termtime) I have DD2 with me. The only way I've managed to fit in the exercise is to set realistic goals and to find blocks of time plus I try to get out for one run per weekend where I am not rushed as DH can have the DC.

Mind you, I have no idea how to fit it all in sometimes, am sitting writing an essay now when I really want to be asleep! Sacrificing sleep seems to be a recurring theme Sad.

On a different note, for things like 30 day shred are 3kg weights about right do people think? Currently using DH's old wrist weights which are so cumbersome to hold and saw the dumbbells in Aldi, am tempted.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/01/2017 23:15

Xpost, I tend to still just bold people but there is a new thing where (I think) you put @username - there was a message in site stuff I think??

randomsabreuse · 03/01/2017 23:29

Managed L1 shred plus basic maintenance yoga after DD went to bed. Day's exercise regime achieved!

I'm trying to do a variety of things as I'm in a weird place with fitness. I'm sort of fit in some ways but hopeless in others. Co-ordination being my biggest issue but upper body strength other than standard baby lifting muscles is interesting. I can run 10k at a consistent pace without stopping but my 5k time is only marginally less than half my unofficial (phone measured) 10k time.

Yoga is because I make a steel girder look flexible and together with core work keeps my back from hurting. Being crap at push ups just annoys me and squats challenge is relatively easy for me so is my reward/feel good thing.

I don't work and have a 17 month old who likes her (huge) playpen and also finds watching me funny so exercise is relatively easy to fit in so long as it is home based.

I'm hoping to make a big difference this month then drop to a more sensible schedule with proper rest days next month - hopefully with some runs and mud runs to aim for...

randomsabreuse · 03/01/2017 23:33

I'm a wuss and still on 3lb weights from TK Maxx for 30 day shred. Some movements would be fine with more but can barely do others with existing weights...

But I raided Aldi today and came back with 2 kettle bells, a set of 5kg dumbells, yoga pants and a(nother) running gilet. I managed to resist the reduced Christmas chocolates and biscuits though!

LordPeterWimsey · 04/01/2017 07:10

TooStressy, I use 2 kg weights for 30DS - go up to 3 kg or 4 kg for some of the back / bicep work in Body Rev, but never above 2kg for shoulders and triceps. But my upper body strength is pretty pitiful, so 3kg might be OK for you.

Another failure to get out of bed this morning. I managed quite well last year but for some reason this year I just can't do it.

blodynmawr · 04/01/2017 07:15

Hello All
Fell off these threads last summer but back with much intent at the start of 2017!
Doing 5 x Jillian Michaels workouts a week is my goal plus 2 x long walks on weekends.
For the poster who asked about DVDs I would suggest this JM one is a good value place to start as it has 30 day shred plus other favourites, including No More Trouble Zones. HTH Smile

sailinggirl1780 · 04/01/2017 07:41

Well it wasn't light enough so just a short 3k but better than staying bed. Suffering with pain in my calf and thigh after long run at weekend so thinking I might do some hiit at home in the mornings until it's lighter. Anyone done the body coach? I did it last year but couldn't afford the food so stopped at end of cycle 2, results were great though!

RJnomore1 · 04/01/2017 16:45

Trained with dh today, back day then some technical work while he did biceps, I don't get much of a chance to train with him these days and I really enjoyed it.

2/148

randomsabreuse · 04/01/2017 17:01

Good longish steady run today. Longer than I had planned. Riding lesson later. DH's day off so packing non-child compatible activities in!

DeliciousIrony · 04/01/2017 18:02

Ugh, first day back at work today...loads to do, and next to no sleep last night, and PMT, and (a bit) of acing from my shred yesterday...how many more excuses do I need? Anyway, I've written off today for exercise. Early night and back on it tomorrow.

Stressy I also find 2kg weights better for the Shred, some of the strength moves that are 60 seconds are too much for me with 3kg, but give it a go and see. I use my 3kgs quite a lot for other workouts.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/01/2017 18:52

Thanks all, weighed DH's ankle weights that I'd been using and they are only just over 1kg each. So I think I'd be ok with 2kg dumbells as they will be easy to hold on to. Won't manage 3kg! Plus they are cheaper than the 3kg dumbells.

Just need to manage to get to Aldi before they sell out now although I guess there is always Amazon. Nothing today, hoping to get something done on Friday.

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2017 19:38

Hello blodynmawr - welcome back

I tried something a bit different this evening. I did Ri30 L1 D1, and then half of 6W6P L1 (so the warm-up, one of the two circuits, and the cool down) - perhaps I can call it day 0.5 Grin. I think that adds up to around 55 mins.

Time: 3h 05min
Days: 4 (or 4/246)

Body Rev workout 3 done. I'm on my Jillian target for the week, but failing on the biking: hoping to do better on that next week.

Tomorrow I must get up early to exercise, as I'm giving blood in the evening and won't be able to lift weights when I get home, and I really want to get workout 4 done.

LordPeterWimsey · 05/01/2017 07:09

Body Rev workout 4 done. I also bought a cheapie pedometer which arrived yesterday, to see how active I am day to day, so am wearing that and will see how it goes.

blodynmawr · 05/01/2017 07:11

KBFF done.
I am really out of puff Blush but know from past experience how quickly I will improve once I get into the routine so determined to keep going!
