Another 45mins of Pilates done today. Really pleased that I managed an extra walk and an extra Pilates session than I had planned for this week.

Hi to newcomers!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/01/2017 20:26

Went to the gym today for the first time in nearly a year (I love it but time and money prevent me so this was a one off - spa day ssshhhhhh as I know they are hated on here). Did 30 mins of proper cardio and it felt great :) . Back to reality now.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/01/2017 20:26

Oh welcom me NoFuckingRoom - awesome username Grin

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 08/01/2017 20:50

Thanks Stressy
God a Spa day-V jealous, they may be hated on here but I bloody love them.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/01/2017 20:58

It was amazing! I went on one last year (Xmas present from DH) and basically spent a year telling him to please get me another one for Xmas this year. Total escape from reality.

randomsabreuse · 08/01/2017 21:30

Nice one NoFuckingRoom!! DD loves the book I'm assuming you're referencing!

Jealous of your tough mudder - can't make the dates work this year.

If you've not done mud runs, 3 tips that massively improved my experience:

  1. No cotton undies, especially not microfibre with a cotton gusset. Possibly the least pleasant bit of my first as the first obstacle was just crotch depth!
  1. Coconut oil on your hair/eyebrows keeps the worst of the mank out of your eyes.
  1. Hair very well restrained - smelly muddy hair dangling across into mouth but hands just as/more covered making removal perilous!

I do love mud runs - they're the reason I started running last year!

KanyesVest · 08/01/2017 22:20

Hello everyone, especially the new joiners!

I had a couple of days if eating everything that wasn't nailed down, so took today by the horns. I drafted dh and the monsters up a local hill this morning and I think I've just done 10k this evening. I need to check my app after last week's disappointing glitch, but it felt pretty quick, so if indeed it was 10k, I did it in 69:07 (I know the time is right from my podcast Grin).

Stressy, I too am very jealous of your spa day. I am bloody wrecked after Christmas and could do with one. I was delighted to read your swimming hack, I do the same at the pool with the kids! If I went a bit more often I'd have beautifully toned arms.

NoFuckingRoom (I agree, brilliant name!) I don't envy you the mud run. I did one 18 months ago and it completely traumatised me.

Oubliette glad to hear you're on the mend.

RJ how are you feeling?

Total : 30.8km

RJnomore1 · 08/01/2017 22:38

I still feel rubbish. Going by friends I should feel better on Tuesday in time for work on Wednesday 😕

I have two questions for you all:

I wasn't going to count my hill walk yesterday but as I was running a bit of a fever and my chest hurts so I couldn't breathe deeply I managed to send my heart rate to a ridiculous level (to the point I thought I couldn't go on and might need a stretcher back down 😳) however I made it so I'm now wondering if I can count it as a training day, it was harder than most of my actual training!?

And second, can I be ready for a kettlebell pentathlon competition in six weeks time?

Hi to the new people lovely to see so much activity. I did tough mudder last summer, fun but possibly not something I would do again now I've done one. I'm signing up for a bubble run in April though!

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 08/01/2017 23:51

Thanks for the tips Random have done pretty muddy for the last 3 years & have signed up again for this year but it's obviously not on a par with the tough mudder...

Am also doing the Color Obstacle Rush again, paint-mud do you see a theme..
Grin
& yes my user name is related to the book, a firm fave for us.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 08/01/2017 23:53

Also RJ yes I would count any hill walk.

LordPeterWimsey · 09/01/2017 06:59

Hi all, welcome to new joiners! This thread's very active, it's great.

RJ, your hill walk definitely counts! Sorry you're still feeling ill. It's crap when you get better just in time to go back to work, isn't it?

Body Rev workout 3 done. Thinking I'll do workout 4 tomorrow and then move on to workouts 5 and 6 on Thursday and Friday this week. I also did a couple of sessions of yoga over the weekend because I'm so inflexible it's ridiculous, and I found it helpful so I'm going to try to build in a bit more yoga to the week. But I don't think I can really count it as a workout: I'm doing the Yoga With Adriene 31-day programme on YouTube, and it's really gentle. (This is a good thing - I make a steel girder look bendy so yoga is really hard for me.)

Biking to work and back today: looking at the weather forecast I may drown on the way home...

randomsabreuse · 09/01/2017 08:42

Pretty muddy is quite sanitised - only got properly muddy because they chucked mud at us but I did fall on my arse at the pink inflatable log! I've not done any with "obstacles" - more of the "natural" type where you end up wallowing in a proper bog that smells of cows. Can't remember if the local colour obstacle thing clashes with something - am very tempted. Paint and mud are great disguises!

I am also doing yoga every day because I need to get closer to tree than steel girder for general life let alone exercise - definitely one for the pricacy of the living room!

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 09/01/2017 10:47

5.5K run done, was initially disappointed as thought I'd managed further than that, but have given my head a wobble & decided not bad for my 3rd run since easing back in & am also impressed I went out at all as a very wet & windy day here.

Snorfig · 09/01/2017 11:23

Stinking cold and lost voice but managed day 2 of 30DS this morning before breakfast. Felt so much better afterwards. Don't think I'll manage a run today unless I get a second wind after kids' bedtime.

Snorfig · 09/01/2017 11:23

Well done everyone here - great motivator having other people going for their own personal challenges and sharing highs and lows.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2017 11:39

Hi everyone, yes it is so motivating! Enforced rest day today as ankle a bit swollen and sore after the weekend.

Don't think I can keep ignoring it so I need to start asking around for local physio recommendations. Have been putting it off as was hoping to leave things until DD2 starts school in September and I have more free time to travel to physio.

RJnomore1 · 09/01/2017 17:21

Right I'm counting the hill walk then so I am

Still barking away here. The feeling of being run over by a lorry has decreased but I feel like someone is setting off a hammer in my head now with all the coughing. Considering going weight training with my friend but may just sit and walk coronation street instead 😳

Hope the rest of you are on the mend too.

LordPeterWimsey · 09/01/2017 19:43

Sad, RJ. Hope you feel better soon. Coronation Street sounds the better plan if you're coughing.

Snorfig, hope your cold gets better soon too.

I didn't drown on the bike, but I did nearly freeze - miscalculated the time I left and got caught in a sudden downpour five minutes after leaving work, and my feet got wet and didn't dry out. They were completely numb when I got home. About to do some yoga now that I've thawed out!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2017 20:03

Brew for all of you who are cold or full of cold!

OublietteBravo · 09/01/2017 20:04

Wow - we're racing through this thread. It's brilliant to have so many people involved - very motivating.

In fact, I was contemplating a rest day, but after catching up on everyone else's efforts I felt that would be letting the side down. So I put on my new exercise top and did Killer Abs L1.

randomsabreuse · 09/01/2017 20:47

Light day for me as a little stiff after weekend runs. I walked into town and back (down to river and up the other side) carrying toddler plus change bag and 10 minute Cardio Burn. Shred is definitely my "extra" for when I'm feeling good. Abs before bed - am still shocking at sit ups!!

Coughing is a good reason not to work out!

Thread is great for me to keep me going when I just want to sit on the sofa eating chocolate!

Snorfig · 09/01/2017 21:07

Rain stopped play and I didn't run after bedtime. I did, however, avoid snacking today so giving myself a high five for that.
Absolutely full of cold, no voice, so this may be a week of indoor training (exercise bike, 30DS) and battling on with bike commute in the cold and wet. This always happens when I go on a health kick!

DeliciousIrony · 09/01/2017 21:50

Did 3 of JM's 10-minute Transformations - Booty, Cardio and Pilates Smile

RJnomore1 · 09/01/2017 21:56

Just signed up for the pentathlon stuff it.

KanyesVest · 10/01/2017 18:30

Hope everyone's on the mend.

RJ, what's a kettle bell pentathlon? And since you seem to know your way around them, can you suggest any YouTube kettle bell vids? I was using kettle bells in the boot camp I used to go to I'm OK on technique but I've no ideas!

I did sprints, 100m uphill, this evening. Good chance I'll expire before morning...
