For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Enjoy your excuse Empress Xmas Grin

I was very good, Reastie, I went out for 30 mins today. I had planned to go longer but it started pouring rain as I left the house after being dry all morning. Still, better than nothing.

Happy Christmas everyone!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/12/2016 07:09

Happy Christmas!

KanyesVest · 27/12/2016 14:13

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas day.

Went for a run this morning, 7km. I redid week 13 run 2 (2x25mins) which was OK but I did have to have a short walk, maybe 20secs, during the second run and I was glad of any cars turning into roads I was crossing Xmas Blush. I could feel every spoon of Christmas pudding on my ass.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/12/2016 14:36

Kanye Grin

Lovely Christmas thanks, hope you did too. I'm going home tomorrow and might even fit in an afternoon run - finish Wk12 hopefully!

Biking007 · 28/12/2016 21:15

Hello hoping to join you here as I move from 5k (thanks empress for link) aiming to get upto 10K in 12wks. Is it possible? Not sure whether to just add 3mins onto each run & repeat 3x in a week or whether to aim for upping distance? Are you following a specific prog to gain kms?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/12/2016 21:32

Hello Biking!

I'm using the zen labs 10K trainer app, like the C25K ones. It's meant to get you up to 10K in 6 weeks

I'm about halfway through the programme, I went off-piste because I was impatient to get it done but now I'm going to go back to it.

Biking007 · 29/12/2016 09:35

Thanks empress I downloaded the app and had a look but I'm abit Hmm by starting to walk again at the 10min mark? I suppose I'll just try it to see if 4x10min runs work. I did 5k this morn and had intended to add another 3mins of running on but was puffed out but didn't realise I'd run the last km my fastest of all. Was pleased I was faster than last week though Smile as I'd been getting slower as I jumped from 4 to 5k but now my pace is back again (I hope!)

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/12/2016 18:24

Whatever works for you, Biking! As you said, try it and you can always jump a week or two.

Good workout in the gym this morning so I'm going to do W12R3 tomorrow.

KanyesVest · 30/12/2016 19:27

Hi *Biking! Welcome to the thread.

I'm using the zen labs app too and although it seems counter intuitive, the breaks are strategically placed!

I managed a terrible 7km today, lots of short walk breaks. Planning to try to do 10km on Sunday to start the new year! I don't know if you guys have seen the -athon threads (a new one will be starting in the next day or two), but I'm over there too. Its more of a mixed exercise bag, but a bit busier if anyone wants to jump in there too. Based on it, I've set myself a challenge if 750km in 2017...I've no idea why I've done that Confused

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/12/2016 20:22

You do mean 750km over the year, Kanye, not in one go??? Good luck with the 10km. Did you keep the trainers?

W12 completed today, onto W13 soon! I got to the park, it was bloody freezing & then my earphones broke. So I came up with several good excuses not to run, then thought bugger it and did it anyway Grin. Switched off MapMyRun by mistake so I have no idea what the distance was but I got the 18x3 and thoroughly warmed up.

I'll have a look for that thread.

KanyesVest · 30/12/2016 20:57

Ha! Yes, it's over the year Grin. Dh has a friend who does ultra marathons and even he wouldn't attempt 750 in one go.

Well done running without accessories. I'm a total wuss without mine.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/12/2016 21:22

Ta Grin. I ended up seeing how many songs I could sing in my head.

KanyesVest · 30/12/2016 21:26

The one time I forgot my tunes, I ended up composing long and detailed complaint letters in my head Blush

I haven't got around to returning the runners, so I think that means I'm keeping them! My arches are aching a bit which usually means I need a new pair, and I was in an asics outlet yesterday, where my preferred pair was more than I paid for the Brooks, so it might be worth holding on to them.

Biking007 · 31/12/2016 09:55

Thanks for welcome. Went out early this morning was bit foggy so did a different route along the road was hard going but hit my goal of 5.5k I had couple 30sec walks due to taking jacket off and traffic. Was hanging by time I got back though as last 2k slightly uphill. I find getting going again after even 30sec walk my legs feel like lead Smile my body wants to stop so a constant plod seems to work better. I will try adding 0.5k a week see if it works. It inspiring hearing how far you guys have got, especially on a treadmill - I'm not sure I could do that I need the stimulation of outside to keep me going to next lamppost Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 31/12/2016 10:13

It was good to run outside again yesterday, Biking - even without a soundtrack! 5.5k is great, adding 0.5k every week sounds like a good plan.

Off to the gym in a minute. It really seems to have made a difference. When I did 8K a few weeks ago I could honestly barely walk afterwards but yesterday my legs were just fine.

GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 31/12/2016 11:09

Kanye 30 minutes not to be sniffed at at all.

Biking I've just been making it up as I go along Blush. Only started running a couple of months ago due to enforced workout changes because of injury. I started with 4 k which at the time was really hard and I'd have to stop for breath a few times and today I did 8 1/4 k in 50 minutes. I'm super proud of myself as that was not easy for me! Trying to do two runs a week (ideally one shorter and one longer) but I d some kind of exercise 5-7 times a week. Well, theoretically although not always during holidays!

Did a shorter run of 6k a couple of days ago but it was really icy out and a bit dangerous, I shouldn't have really. Weirdly I got a time record for being fast though, not sure how that figures?!

I never thought of doing strategically placed breaks Blush I just go as fast and as far as I can. Maybe I should look at technique to building it up.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 31/12/2016 17:55

Have a look at 10K apps, Reastie. They work you up gradually.

The Zen labs ones do make the unrealistic assumption that I'll be able to run 10K in an hour at the end of the programme but I can happily ignore that!

GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 31/12/2016 20:45

Do the apps work alongside other apps? I use runkeeper to track my runs so would need to run that at the same time.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 31/12/2016 21:29

I use the zen labs one alongside MapMyRun and have my music on too. They all work fine together, the app just breaks into the songs every so often to tell me to start running or whatever.

KanyesVest · 31/12/2016 22:12

Reastie, I use Run keeper with zen labs and music/audible/audioboom. I always seem to need to start zen labs first or it cuts out my audio, but as long as the three are running together they are all fine.

GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 01/01/2017 07:18

Fab, thanks, I'm going to download it and see how I go.

KanyesVest · 01/01/2017 22:22

So i managed my 10k! I had 3 very short walks, approx 30 secs each. I must have misplotted my route because at the end I was still over 1km from home, so I very slowly jogged that too. All in all, 11.25km today. I'm delighted, I did the 10k in 66:28 which is utterly baffling to me. I really can't move that fast! I'm taking it as a good omen for my newyearathon!

GodReastieMerryGentlemen · 02/01/2017 07:51

Wow Kanye, that's an amazing time, well done. Hope you don't feel it too much this morning!

KanyesVest · 02/01/2017 09:22

I double checked my time Sad. There was a glitch in the matrix and my time was really more like 76 mins. I would have been delighted with that before I went out, but I'm oddly disappointed now. Oh well, I'll just have to aim for 66 instead.

ZefStar · 02/01/2017 11:19

Hello all! Hope you've all had a great Christmas and new year. Hope it's ok if I jump back in? I've done nothing for about two weeks , finally got out this morning for half an hour and hoping to pick up with week 11 run 2 tomorrow. Back to being good now after a couple of weeks of eating pretty much nothing but chocolate and cheese
