For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Can I join please? I started running (C25k) in March and have just completed it! I'm up to just over 5k and heading for a 10K race in September (I hope that's enough time). I'm not having a great week and think I may need to get some proper trainers.

Iwannasnack · 15/05/2017 22:24

Hi pink. I'm struggling too. What apps are people using. I'm using the zen labs 5-10K but hate it. It's full of adverts and i never hear the run/walk alerts. I've done 5 runs with it now and it's rubbish. As am I, think I've had to stop and walk in every single run segment. Signed up to the great south run in October which now feels completely impossible.
Sorry, I know I'm having a moan. Started c25k in Feb and did it pretty easily, don't get me wrong every single run was HARD but I didn't have to repeat any weeks and started running parkruns at around week 7.
And I won't even start on my pelvic floor issues....Blush

Pinkvici22 · 16/05/2017 06:43

Iwanna I'm using Fitness 22 10K runner. I'm the same as you, haven't had to repeat any weeks even though I've found it hard, but last night was a killer. Think I'll have to repeat that run.

I may also have had a tiny pelvic floor incident on Sunday

Howlongtillbedtime · 16/05/2017 07:40

Hi pink you have made it to the end Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 16/05/2017 07:59

I think quite a few of us here started with apps & then went off-piste, I don't know if that helps.

I started off trying to do three mornings a week, like I had with the C25K, but it was too much physically and I ended up having a few weeks when I couldn't run at all because of knee pain.

I do 15k a week max now & that seems to work, but that's along with knee strengthening exercises, Omega 3 supplements & decent trainers! Oh and mixing surfaces, some on pavements, some on park trails - grass.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 16/05/2017 08:01

Hello Kanye! FlowersBrewCake

Sorry you've been having such a rough time but good to see you.

SkiBike007 · 16/05/2017 10:18

Hope the fresh air and run helps the horrid migraine kanye Brew -
would a neck massage help? I struggle sometimes with migraines and if it's not hormone & too much sugar trigger it's always neck /stress tightness and a sports massage does wonders. I've been trying to "roll out" my neck shoulders too on a foam roller which is interesting Grin my kids think I look hilarious rolling and want to join in. Hope life improves abit for you now. Any walk/run is better than none.

KanyesVest · 16/05/2017 16:30

Oh, that was moanier then I intended Blush thanks guys Smile migraine is hormonal but it's been exacerbated by the change in weather for a double whammy. Even though the run was horrible at the time, I feel better for having got out. And I'm.feeling more sane while waiting for a washing machine fixer to repair the beast.

I went to the gym today, weights. I'm such a weakling but it felt good.

shortaris1 · 17/05/2017 07:55

Thanks for asking ladies. MY ANKLE IS BETTER! I'm delighted (can you tell) 3 weeks off it but have been gymming, doing body balance and doing ankle strengthening exercises.

Went out for 20 mins on Sunday and half an hour last night. Last nights was hot as well. So glad I'm not the only one struggling in the heat. I've got vests but they're tight and I've got big boobs so I feel a bit self conscious. May look for a looser one for my race (Don't worry I'll try it out first!)

Race number came last night so I'm excited about that. 10k is 2 weeks on Sunday.

What kind of stuff did you hand in to the race organisers? I've got a slip for that but not sure of the logistics yet. Also may need sunglasses or a hat but concerned about sweating profusely!

littlemissM92 · 17/05/2017 08:17

Short indidnt hand anything in just went to a tent gave surname and filled out emergency contact details on the back of my number I then clipped on to my top.. it was really warm when I did mine I went in short leggings and a short sleaved top and wish I had gone vest top!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/05/2017 09:05

That's fantastic Shortaris!

Got my race number too, got my top all decorated, checked it looks ok with a sports bra. Also got a techy transponder thing that goes on my trainer to measure time. I filled in the emergency contact details online.

For my race they provide kitbags & a storage area so I'm just putting my change of clothes in that. It finishes conveniently near my gym so I can dash in there after & have a quick shower & change.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/05/2017 09:09

Kanye, hope you're recovering Brew

SkiBike007 · 17/05/2017 11:43

I squeezed in a quick 5k before work in the rain today, I was still bright red & overheating at the end despite the constant drizzle. I did buy a £5 golf visor thing at the weekend to try out instead of sunglasses & baseball hat.
All this race talk making me think I really should get organised on the one I'm interested in June but we had life issue to deal with at wend (DH knockedoff his bike-just about walking wounded not life threatening) so family life logistics have gone up in the air abit. Shock is a funny thing and I'm feeling utterly drained but running & swimming helping my sanity.

KanyesVest · 17/05/2017 13:31

Hope your dh is ok, ski, that must have been awful for you all. In my experience shock always hits just when you think things should be normal again. Hope you're taking care of yourself too. Flowers

SkiBike007 · 17/05/2017 14:25

Thanks kanye think the shock drain has hit both of us hard today. It's going to be a long process healing physically, mentally and legal claim/police stuff to sort out. He loves & lives for his exercise so I feel guilty nipping out for run/swim but the head space was very needed.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/05/2017 15:40

Ski Shock

Hope you're both ok. Do what you need for you xx

shortaris1 · 17/05/2017 22:12

Oh no Ski take care of yourself! And your poor DH

Thanks for the advice littlemiss and Empress Managed 40 mins tonight.

SkiBike007 · 18/05/2017 06:06

Thanks x

Well done shortaris on your run.

littlemissM92 · 18/05/2017 07:42

Planning my first 10 k since my race in April on sat... will let u all know how i get on hope it's dry

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 18/05/2017 22:01

Good luck Miss.

That's great Shortaris, how are you feeling?

SkiBike007 · 19/05/2017 06:14

Gd luck little miss

I swapped to the bike yesterday and cycled to work 18m in total so bum n legs bit tired yesterday evening but it was really good to see how running fitness has really crossed over to bike fitness. I found the hills easy Grin shame my bum didn't! I'm not saddle fit at all. I felt bit nervous too after DH accident so it was gd to make myself go mainly because the main re had roadworks on it so the traffic was supposed to be bad and the cycle path bypasses it all Smile

littlemissM92 · 20/05/2017 10:07

So I did 8.2k in 57mims ran all of it BUT the back of my left ankle since thurs has been getting painful but only when I have shoes on what's that all about? I went to supermarket straight after my run and walking round there I was almost limping it was that sore ?!

SkiBike007 · 20/05/2017 11:59

Try ice on the sore bits and lots of stretches and foam roller or tennis ball on the legs could help? littlemiss

My knee hurt abit when I ran an hr nonstop but 2-3d rest and stretches it was fine. My body just needs to take it steady as running for 45mins it doesn't hurt at all, just that extra 15mins the muscles tighten up more. Well done on your run, I couldn't motivate myself this morn so I'll go sunday.

littlemissM92 · 20/05/2017 12:15

It's just the back of ankle that skinny bony bit ? I am making more of an effor to stretch before and after I'm gunna try again next sat for the 10k and maybe a 5/6 on wed x

KanyesVest · 20/05/2017 12:22

Well done littlemiss that's a great time. I'm afraid I've no idea about the sore ankle though. Any chance changing your lacing might help?

I haven't run very much but I did run to and from the gym this morning where I did a cardio boxing class. I'm pooped.
