I've signed up to do 10,000 steps a day in September with the Walk All Over Cancer event.
Anyone else doing this?
My kids have left home now so I don't actually have a school run to do.Its going to mean leaving the car at home , walking to shops etc if I don't make a bit of extra effort I won't achieve it!
All welcome to cheer each other on and get fitter.

Thanks

I did 14,367 yesterday!
Off today do I intend to sit on the sofa all day.... No moving.

I completed the NYC marathon on my Fitbit in 2 days. My feet are so sore.

grandmainmypocket · 04/10/2016 18:42

Wow. Well done!
You've motivated me to at least to do 3000 today. Been working from home and feeling low in general.

Go soak your feet.

Hi, can I join this thread?! I don't have a Fitbit, just a standard pedometer (rubbish at technology!). Had DC2 nearly 11 weeks ago and want to shift the baby podge. Trying to get back to running but it's tricky as DH works long hours, 6 days a week so no one to watch 4yo and baby. So I'm wanting to do 10000 steps/day instead. Currently managing about 7-8k most days just from my usual routine, going up and down stairs 5 million times a day, walking baby to sleep etc, so not too bad - but not great. Need to get into the habit of walking more rather than driving, just wish there was more hours in the day to fit it all in!

Done 8710 steps today, plus a 1hr yoga class, so not too bad. Will do 10000 tomorrow!

LadyMaryofDownt0n · 06/10/2016 07:58

Hi four, welcome.

Well done that's good going when you have a new baby!

I managed around 12,000 yesterday. Mon-Thursday that's about my average. Can be much higher st the weekends because I work over 12 hours. When I am at home I try not to move all day lol

I'd recommend the Fitbit it's really good & easy to use.

Tsotofamily · 07/10/2016 22:59

HI all

Can I join please?
I've recently had a baby who is just over 10 weeks old. I've got a walk logger on my phone that I used before I found out I was expecting and started using it again these past 2 weeks and I've managed to hit my target of 10,000 steps by school runs, dog walks and walking when kids are at clubs etc. My next aim is to try and get at least 5-6,000 steps done before lunch and to increase my total steps daily where I can

grandmainmypocket · 07/10/2016 23:30

I'm so excited I managed 15790 for first time and weather has really held up in London.
And coat buttons managed to close all the way to bottom (previously wouldn't).

FourForYouGlenCoco · 08/10/2016 09:21

tsoto we are in a v similar situation - my baby is 11 weeks!
grandma that's an amazing total, wow! And hurray & well done on the coat buttons, fab.

Day before yesterday I managed a woeful 6100 steps or thereabouts but hit 10,000 yesterday - plus an extra few hundred when baby wouldn't settle last night and I was wandering round the house jiggling him for ages. Probably won't manage that many today but we'll see.

Tsotofamily · 08/10/2016 21:32

Four congratulations is he/she your 1st

Done 8390 steps today, didn't think I was going to manage that as spent morning watching son's football match and I've also hurt my ankle some how

FourForYouGlenCoco · 08/10/2016 23:52

Nope he's my second, I have a DD too who's just started school - school runs usually good for a couple of thousand steps but no more as it's only a few mins away!
5000ish steps here, didn't have time to walk places today so took car. I do 90% of my steps carting the baby (who is a giant) about though so I tell myself it counts for more! Planning a walk tomorrow but depends on the weather, we shall see

Tsotofamily · 10/10/2016 19:28

Yesterday I got to roughly 7800 steps
Today I've done over 10000 steps Smile

Bin85 · 10/10/2016 19:47

Weather getting colder
Nights drawing in
Will have to get out earlier in the day!
I'm on 6411 right now - can I push it up to 10,000 in between supper ,University Challenge etc we shall see but it's looking doubtful
Cheer me on ...!!!

Managed c7600 yesterday, but went for a run and did a pathetic attempt at hill training, so several thousand of those were actually up the sodding massive, very steep hills near my house.
Did 12000 today Smile
Bin you can do it! I sometimes do a bit of running/marching on the spot when my total has been just too pathetic - could you do that? It still counts right?!

Bin85 · 10/10/2016 22:29

I suppose it sort of does!
I'm 75% there now , think it's a bit late to pace round the garden - will wake up neighbours or they will think I'm very strange!

OP posts:
grandmainmypocket · 11/10/2016 20:55

Bin - does it matter if neighbours think you're strange?

I've found a way to add an extra 2000 steps to my daily total as I can't go out in the evenings.
We'll go home an indirect way so I can make up 10000. I lost 7lb recently but put on 1lb this week. So want to up my steps before rain and cold kick in.

Bin85 · 11/10/2016 21:23

I'm sure they already do grandma!
I did go out in the garden for a bit but didn't want to keep neighbours awake - they are very fit , had a tightrope between two trees once!!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 13/10/2016 09:39

~10500 yesterday, - walked everywhere all day and then baby was grumpy all evening so did a lot of walking him round and round. Also did an hour yoga class in the morning so happy days.
Not feeling amazing today though and weather is pants so planning a sofa day. Steps will be rubbish but don't care, need a bit of R&R!

Tsotofamily · 13/10/2016 22:58

Four you deserve a R&R day exercising with a newborn isn't easy

Have managed to hit over just over 10000 steps the last 4 days, my foots not hurting as much now but think I will book a doctors appointment if it's not completely better after the weekend

Tsotofamily · 14/10/2016 22:50

Only managed 8500 steps today. My ankle and foot are still playing up so going to take it easy this weekend. Saw doctor today who's given me exercises to do she thinks I've sprained it

Bin85 · 15/10/2016 09:17

Sounds horrid Tso , get well soon

OP posts:
grandmainmypocket · 15/10/2016 19:58

Take care of that ankle. Did the doctor say to rest the foot?

Tsotofamily · 17/10/2016 13:49

Thanks both. No doctor didn't say anything about resting but not much chance of that with 4 children and 2 dogs to walk. I did take it easy over the weekend though and it feels much better today. Been out for a walk with dogs and feeling nowhere as bad as it was on Friday

FourForYouGlenCoco · 18/10/2016 21:50

Glad you're on the mend Tso
Still stepping here, 10k including a run on Sunday, 14k (!) yesterday, 9800 today so v close. Getting better at hitting the magic 10k! Keeping count is definitely encouraging me to walk more rather than just taking the car everywhere.

Tsotofamily · 18/10/2016 22:34

Four your doing really well. I find I'm walking alot more now to hit at least 10000. Yesterday I manage just over 11200 and today I've managed just over 13000.
Think tomo I'm going to take it easy as hit my foot earlier on a bit of a raise drain and there were a few choice words said Hmmso feeling sore again tonight

grandmainmypocket · 26/10/2016 22:20

How's everyone getting on? I thought my body would be used to the walking by now but arms and legs still throb horribly.
