I've signed up to do 10,000 steps a day in September with the Walk All Over Cancer event.
Anyone else doing this?
My kids have left home now so I don't actually have a school run to do.Its going to mean leaving the car at home , walking to shops etc if I don't make a bit of extra effort I won't achieve it!
All welcome to cheer each other on and get fitter.

Yes of course it counts
I try to make myself get up during adverts (e.g in Victoria last night!) clean up kitchen a bit and walk round table a few times.
There's a lot of roadworks near where I live so should I :-

  1. still take the car and fume about it
  2. use Ocado more ( poor van driver)
  3. get my granny trolley out and walk??!!!!

Still getting used to mine.

Had a massive sleep total yesterday due to lying down reading a book!

Still confused by the calories in/out calculation.

bin yes to the granny trolley😁.

MsMermaid · 13/09/2016 23:18

Bin did you take your granny trolley?

I had a crap day yesterday, only got up to 4,000 steps Blush

I'm having a better day today but even after going out to the shop, and walking to collect dd from her activities, I'm still only on 8500. It's now bedtime, I can't do that much marching on the spot now, I need to sleep.

Bin85 · 14/09/2016 09:27

No but I do sometimes!Afraid I waited until traffic had died down a bit and took car!!Still it was hot yesterday and I wasn't very well
Monday was much better -3 walks and over 11,000
Bit of a lazy start today so better get moving

I just got a fitbit, fascinated by it!

I walk the dog for a hour in the morning so 10k isn't that hard for me. But pushing with the fat burning and cardio.
I did over 3000 kcals yesterday and there's no way I put that much in

I used to track steps with myfitnesspal on my iPhone, I've noticed there's a big difference cos I don't carry the phone everywhere.
Sometimes I've done 1000 before leaving the house in the morning.

Bin85 · 14/09/2016 10:24

Welcome dollylucy.
Yes a dog might help
My neighbour says I can walk hers anytime!

Any more for being Fitbit friends and joining challenges from time to time?

Struggling today. No opportunities for walking, so having to walk around house later. Boo.

MsMermaid · 14/09/2016 18:16

I'm only up to 3500 today. It's so difficult on work days. After I've fed the kids I might go for a walk before I do bedtime or I might just sit on my bum and chill

absolutelynotfabulous · 14/09/2016 19:31

My fitbit has stopped syncingShock.

Bin85 · 14/09/2016 19:48

Have you tried turning your phone / laptop off and on again?

MsMermaid · 14/09/2016 21:02

There is a reset button on the flex (I don't know which one you've got but I assume other models have one too). Google it and you get a lovely help page that is pretty much idiot proof. Mine sometimes just needs a bit of a rest I think.

I did go out for a walk, but I'm still online up to 6000 ish (my fitbit is being temperamental and won't tell me exactly how many steps I've done).

absolutelynotfabulous · 14/09/2016 21:14

Still not working, so I'll try the help page. I've checked the Bluetooth, turned phone off and on a few times. So cross!

Thanks for suggestions.

grandmainmypocket · 14/09/2016 23:00

Only on 8000 today and my family have brought round lots of oily yummy food. Double wammy. Less exercise but too many calories.

A lot of work deadlines this week coming up so think I might do more cardio and stick with only 8000 steps. I knew 10000 was too good to be true.

AuntieStella · 15/09/2016 06:47

Everyone's doing so well!

I find I have two types of day - those that come in at about 6,500 and those where I find an opportunity to go out for a walk and it goes up to 11,000+

I used to have fond thoughts that I walked a lot. Seems I'm good at self-delusion. Making the effort (and starting C25K) has left me with tingly stiff legs!

dollylucy · 15/09/2016 13:41

Got a bit lost walking the dog this morning, so I'd done my 10k by 10am!

absolutelynotfabulous · 15/09/2016 13:43

auntie me too. Busy days are a struggle for me as I'm both sedentary and knackered on those days.

It makes you wonder about lifestyle, though! All that driving and sitting! No wonder we've got an obesity problem...perhaps the NHS should issue fitbits!

MsMermaid · 15/09/2016 19:12

But a fitbit doesn't actually do the walking for you. I had that conversation yesterday with dh, it's no good just wearing the thing and moaning that I never get above 4000 steps, I need to get out and walk for it to be higher. Even going out for a walk yesterday didn't get me up to 10,000 because I still needed to fit in a full day of work, a commute, sorting bedtime, etc. Walking for 10,000 steps takes quite a while to do all in one go, but I don't even really have shorter periods of time to fit in little walks.

I'm just over 4,000 steps today, and that was quite an active work day for me, moving a around the school a few times. So now I have to go out for a walk after dd2 is in bed, when it will be dark, and come home to a stack of books to mark. I do feel better when I've been more active but it's just so difficult to fit it in around the other immovable commitments.

Does anyone else find their fitbit doesn't count all their steps. This morning I'd gone up and down the stairs twice and it said I'd only done 10 steps. I'd definitely done at least 50 based on the number of stairs we've got.

absolutelynotfabulous · 15/09/2016 20:25

Mine seems to be overestimating a bit..and counting steps that don't existGrin. I accrued some steps whilst playing the piano yesterday.

Now it's not syncing again...Sad.

Artandco · 15/09/2016 20:37

I used to wonder why I felt so tired every night, then started looking at steps and relalised I do 25,000+ a day usually. Mainly do to constantly moving at work and in between ( live London and so walk everywhere)

MsMermaid · 15/09/2016 22:04

I think I've figured out my missing steps. Banisters. I put my hand on the Bannister every time I go up or down the stairs so of course it won't count those, my hand isn't feeling the movement.

I'm up to 6,500 steps now, but unlikely to accrue many more today due to marking and sleep. I'll do better tomorrow.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/09/2016 08:17

Mine has stopped syncing and now the lights aren't flashing when tapped either.

It's still counting calories etc but no stepsSad.

Don't know what to do nowSad.

MsMermaid · 16/09/2016 19:29

Is it fully charged? Mine did that yesterday. It said it had half a battery left, but it wasn't flashing it syncing. I charged it for a bit and it started working again. It's worth a try. If not, I've heard good things about their customer services, they replaced my friend's without question when it stopped working after 11 months of daily use.

MsMermaid · 16/09/2016 19:31

I'm almost there today. 9550, so only 450 left to go.
