I've signed up to do 10,000 steps a day in September with the Walk All Over Cancer event.
Anyone else doing this?
My kids have left home now so I don't actually have a school run to do.Its going to mean leaving the car at home , walking to shops etc if I don't make a bit of extra effort I won't achieve it!
All welcome to cheer each other on and get fitter.

Good luck with the driving .
Not very good today
After 6 days should be at least on 60,000 and I have a deficit of 7,970.
That's a lot of walking tomorrow if circumstances permit which I doubt !!

bin I think that's pretty good, actually. Well done.

Hi! Can I join in? I used to run 10k 3/4 times a week but i have lupus and the flare up is restricting me somewhat. I've started wearing my Fitbit again and aiming for 10000 steps :) yesterday was useless because my son was poorly. Today I've done 6000 so far, including shopping. But Fitbit doesn't pick up steps properly if you're pushing a trolley Hmm

Bin85 · 07/09/2016 15:00

Welcome Fizzy hope your son is OK today?
I agree as I've spent couple of hours around shops with a buggy and Fitbit only says 2000+
Bit tricky to push one handed too!

Yes, he's fine. Incidentally he's a wheelchair user and I've cracked the 1 handed pushing thing now, so at least I won't lose the FB steps there haha. Managed 12000 steps today and 24 floors! I'm thrilled! How have you done?

absolutelynotfabulous · 08/09/2016 07:19

I didn't do ANY yesterday but I expected that.

Have a tennnis class today so will probably get there.

Well done knickers.

Bin85 · 08/09/2016 08:24

Feeling cross 5804 yesterday but family stuff making it tricky this week .
Will have to do extra days in October to make up!

Been out with my friend and the dogs this morning. Smashed 10k steps by 11am! Star tired now but off to a hospital appt so no time for a nap. Oh well! Will see how many I've done by bedtime :)

AuntieStella · 09/09/2016 10:49

I've started using an app to track, and it says my current daily average is 7,122 steps per day (range over last week 3,904 - 13,057).

I've done 2,342 so far today.

As I don't carry my phone round in the house, I suppose that's a bit under. But I'd better not kid myself that it's a significant amount missing.

Fizzyknickers · 10/09/2016 07:50

Yesterday was poor, 6000 ish steps. Today I'm put all day though so I hope it will be much, much higher :)

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/09/2016 08:37

Another poor day for me too. Only about 5000Sad.

I'm now hungover so today's target seems unlikely tooSadBlush.

Bin85 · 10/09/2016 13:36

Yesterday 4809 !!!very bad
Today already nearly 6000 but got to drive again soon
Hopefully results will increase next week when I'm not at toddler speed !!

I've done 15000Halo. Pleased with that, as it compensates for yesterday's poor performance.

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/09/2016 16:20

I've got a fitbit! Just trying to set it up. It's given me a calorie output of 1258 cals per day. I can log food, but for some reason I can't log exercise. It's saying "not connected"Confused.

And it's taking aaaages to update....

grandmainmypocket · 11/09/2016 09:59

I'm glad I've found this page. It's my first week of 10000 steps, so proud I managed 6 days. But I'm worried if I can keep it up as I'm so unfit and just falling asleep in the evenings.

Well done everyone. I've already seen a difference and been able to close my trouser button.

MsMermaid · 11/09/2016 11:26

I'm finding it really hard to get to the 10,000 steps on work days because I'm tied to my classroom during the day, can't add a walk to my commute because of timings with work and cm, then have too much work to do to go out for a walk.

Weekend are much easier than during the week though. I hit 10,000 steps by lunchtime yesterday (and then spent the afternoon at mils, sitting on my arse while she feed us all vast quantities of food). So by bedtime I was up to 11,100, without even too much of an effort, just did my normal exercise class and a trip to the shops. I'm up to 2980 today, which included an exercise class but a fairly stationary one. I'll be going to the library later which will add quite a few steps, especially since I play a game while I'm out walking. It's called geohitch and it's a location based treasure hunt type game similar to geo caching but the things you find are virtual rather than physical. I'm a little bit obsessed as it makes my walk more fun if I'm collecting virtual hitchhikers.

Does anybody want to be my fitbit friend? I can pm people my email address if you'd like to, I'm currently friendless :( because none of my actual friend use fit bits.

Bin85 · 11/09/2016 12:37

Yes happy to be Fitbit friends

Me too!

Bin85 · 11/09/2016 16:19

My get up and go seems to have got up and gone today, will try and find it later.Have been doing housework and shopping after a week away but not many steps registered.

OP posts:
MsMermaid · 11/09/2016 17:29

I've smashed it today. I'm up to 15,782 steps today. :) That should make up for a day or so of not many steps during the week. My feet are REALLY tied now!

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/09/2016 18:36

I thought I was having a really bad day, but I've done 5000 just kinda mooching around, popping to the shop etc. I've got my first boat shoe, whatever that isSmile.

Can I ask a question? Is anyone else having a problem logging exercise?

And is the allocated daily calorie allowance an arbitrary thing or based on the statistics you put in?

And another last one-does the step total accumulate over time to average out?

grandmainmypocket · 11/09/2016 22:04

Well done Ms mermaid!!

I've dropped to 4500 today but I just couldn't bear much more.

Bin85 · 11/09/2016 23:32

New week tomorrow
I can do this!!

Got home today and was only on 2100 ish (after a long drive) - so have literally spent the whole eve marching on the spot while watching TV, done around 8000 steps that way! Does it still count?! Blush figure it must be better than sitting on my arse watching TV right?!
