I've signed up to do 10,000 steps a day in September with the Walk All Over Cancer event.
Anyone else doing this?
My kids have left home now so I don't actually have a school run to do.Its going to mean leaving the car at home , walking to shops etc if I don't make a bit of extra effort I won't achieve it!
All welcome to cheer each other on and get fitter.

I'm doing it! Managed 12,000 today, carrying DS for most of it which is no mean feat as he's a little lump Grin

Bin85 · 02/09/2016 23:14

Well done Spudlet!

I was waaay off yesterday, even with a few runs up and down the stairs.

Does disco dancing count towards steps?

walruswhiskers · 03/09/2016 10:50

Absolutely VILE weather here this morning. Had every intention of doing a couple of miles but not in this... Supposed to dry out later so will head out then.

Bin85 · 03/09/2016 13:21

Absolutely,Absolutely!!

Walked briskly for an hour Halo but have no idea how to convert that into steps.

MsMermaid · 03/09/2016 14:30

I'm up to 5200 ish today. I've also done an exercise class, but it was a body balance class so no steps necessary, Pilates, yoga and Tai chi movements, but basically standing still while doing them. The weather is awful here, so nobody wants to come for a walk with me :( I'll have to go on my own (and listen to my audio book which is gripping Grin)

marcopront · 03/09/2016 14:36

I've dropped my daughter at her ballet class, so I am now going to walk around the park. That shouted get me some steps in.

absolutelynotfabulous · 03/09/2016 15:17

I've just found a handy chart online that converts minutes' activity into steps. 15mins walking=2000 steps!

On that basis, I've done 8000, without "incidental" stepsHalo.

Easier than I thought.

Bin85 · 03/09/2016 15:19

Great efforts well done
Why do some days seem but easier than others?!
Went into town this morning and parked some distance away to save paying for parking, surprised to find have done 8000 already !!

I found on my iPhone it's not super accurate but roughly a total of 1.5hrs walking was10,000 steps for me. I made an excuse to walk to the shops daily for milk and then walk past the shop up the hill and back again would tick off half hr. Then a school run 4x10mins, then a half hr lunch break round the block would normally hit target. I got walking after a back injury last yr as it was the only thing I could do, I need to get back to doing more now hols are over. I've also started doing HIT exercises three times a week, 6 x 60secs with 99sec rest, exercise bursts to increase my stamina.

Bin85 · 03/09/2016 15:47

OK
Going out to walk for 10 minutes and I'll let you know what my Fitbit says soon !

Bin85 · 03/09/2016 16:07

OK
Walking moderately fast , as it started raining , I did 1280 in 10 minutes.More than I thought.
Interesting that 5 minutes got me exactly to a local landmark so if ever I need an extra 1000 steps I'll know where to head for!

Dried up this aft so just went out in wellies and berghaus (glam!) for an hour and 20. Result - 8.5k now done. I'll pick the rest up pottering round at home.

Bin85 · 04/09/2016 10:27

Pleased with 11,712 yesterday but will struggle today as it includes quite a long drive.
Finding this thread ( and people sponsoring me ) is giving me the incentive I need so thank you

I didn't make it to 10,000 steps yesterday, I got to 8,000 ish but just ran out of time and excuses to leave the house. I had work to do too, so can't put that off in favour of walking :(

I'm up to 6,531 so far today, and dd2 has plans for me to take her out this afternoon, so maybe I can make up the deficit today ( I know that's not the way it's supposed to work really)

Bin85 · 04/09/2016 11:58

I think that's OK , it's all an improvement.

Oh dear. Have faltered!
4350 yesterday partly due to driving, traffic jams etc, better get walking today .

OP posts:
absolutelynotfabulous · 05/09/2016 12:32

I've faltered tooBlush. Meant to redeem myself yesterday but plan scuppered by a garden party.

So far today, only 4000 but hoping to visit shops later to accrue another 4000.

Otherwise, I'll have to have a sad, one-person disco in the living room to make that elusive target.

Bin85 · 05/09/2016 13:53

Glad I'm not the only one!
Getting a bit lost in an unfamiliar place has boosted today's total a bit.
Perhaps an average of 10,000 a day counts ?!
So that's 300,000 steps in September....

OP posts:
carrie74 · 05/09/2016 19:42

I have to do an average over the month - I don't think I've ever been able to reach 10k on a working day!

MsMermaid · 05/09/2016 20:07

Back to school today for me. So even though I have been busy all day and on my feet a lot I've not done many steps because I've been in my classroom. I'm up to 5,500 so far, I think I'll have to go out for a solitary walk after dd2's bedtime she's currently talking non-stop about her first day in year 2 Work days are really difficult to find time to get walking.

Bin85 · 06/09/2016 07:05

And another day begins !
How's everyone doing ?
MsMermaid did you manage to get out again last night?
I just managed 10,000 in the end by going out as it was getting dark but actually quite enjoyed it!

OP posts:
MsMermaid · 06/09/2016 07:47

No I didn't unfortunately. By the time dd2 went to sleep I came down and dh had cooked dinner, then dd1 wanted to talk about her first day in sixth form, and I had marking to do (already!).

I'll do better today, it's dh's turn to do dd2's bedtime so I can go for a walk while he's doing that.

absolutelynotfabulous · 06/09/2016 12:52

I've done it! 10,000, and before lunch.

Not so good tomorrow, though. Driving all day.
