I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

I've been wondering that too, Rshard, at the speed we go there's no way I'll be doing 5k in 30 mins.

W4R3 for me this evening. Feel very intimidated at the prospect of W5.

Rshard · 06/05/2016 09:33

Glad it's not just me! My aim in all of this to start doing my local parkrun. I know you don't need to run all of it, but I kind of wanted to give it my best shot!

Have been doing junior parkrun with my dd and we do that 2km in around 13 minutes on average which is quicker than I did yesterday. Perhaps the heat slowed me down? I'll see how I get on with the 25 minutes at the end of w6.

Week 5 really wasn't that bad! You can do it

DontDoItDi · 06/05/2016 09:46

Last year when I finished the 9-week NHS C25K programme I wasn't running a full 5K in 30 mins, more like 4K, but I kept on doing 30 minute runs and over the next few weeks I started to speed up and maybe three weeks later I was running 5K in 30 mins. So I'm keeping focussed on time now and not thinking at all about distance. I shall start thinking about distance/speed after I can do the full 30 mins.

I'm still chugging along doing 20 minutes. Promised myself another two goes before I move on to Week 6.

Rshard · 06/05/2016 10:36

That's a really useful way of looking at it, thanks

comeagainforbigfudge · 06/05/2016 15:46

Oh man alive, im only just hitting 4k in 30mins (10mins of which is warm up/cool down to be fair)

Im just aiming to jog comfortable for 20mins. Which i have managed but seems to have escaped me again Confused. Distance/speed will improve eventually im sure

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 16:36

About to reattempt 8/1. It's hot. It's stuffy. I've already got a slight panic on just thinking about it... Shit

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 17:49

Ffs. Feeling dejected. Attempt #2 at w8r1 also failed. I got further this time though, 24 out of 28 mins completed in one stretch but I had to walk as genuinely thought I was going to vomit. It was just too hot (and I'm wearing microscopic running shorts and a proper t-shirt so it's not a case of inappropriate clothing). I just don't cope well in the heat, I think.

Added the missing 4mins on at the end to make the full 28, just a shame they weren't all consecutive Sad. I think this one is one I'll repeat a few times before I master it Sad.

Trying again on Sunday morning. Early.

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 17:54

No wonder I thought I was going to throw up, I've just checked my heart rate tracking for the run and it was up to 196 Shock

Rshard · 06/05/2016 18:11

Oh no! Please don't beat yourself up! Try and focus on what you've achieved, could you have run for 24 minutes before starting?? I bet you couldn't.

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 18:12

Thanks R, you're right. Can't help being disappointed though.

StrawberriCream · 06/05/2016 18:18

Did w2d1 today I felt good that I can run 90 seconds in a row!!!

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 19:00

Well done strawb. Sorry, I'm not trying to belittle those who are at an earlier stage, it is just about the pressure I place on myself. Those early weeks are hellish, 90secs feels interminable.

SkodaLabia · 06/05/2016 19:43

Excellent work by both Natty and Strawberri. I did ok tonight but really can't imagine running for 8 mins next week. Shock

Rshard · 06/05/2016 20:23

Well done Natty and Strawberri! Skoda - do you run alone? I find it much harder, I run with my dd, she makes me braver!! I'd stick to quiet streets and lanes but we've been running along local bus routes!

SkodaLabia · 06/05/2016 21:06

No, Team Skoda is me and Unfit Friend. There's no way I would be doing this on my own, we both really need to be in it together.

0ellenbrody0 · 06/05/2016 21:54

I'm not good in the heat either and although it's quite warm, it's going to get a LOT hotter in the summer! Dosnt bode well!
I left it till 6:30 this evening and it had cooled down a little but I was still v v red. W8 r3 done. 28 mins and 4.5k but that includes warm up and cool down.
This thread is great, so many people pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and off the sofa!

NattyGolfJerkin · 06/05/2016 22:05

We were way too fast - 6km incl warm up/cool down.

I don't even want to think about the hotter weather, ellenSad. I'm hoping that by that point I'll have a good level of fitness and will be more comfortable running in general so the heat will be manageable. The combination of heat + increasing distance/difficulty every run is proving a challenge at the mo.

Rshard · 06/05/2016 23:02

I can tell my fitness levels have increased through this. I ran for the bus the other morning. Wearing heels and carrying laptop bag and hand bag! I would never have attempted it before.

Brody is right, I'm happy to be getting off the sofa and out exercising

DontDoItDi · 07/05/2016 14:54

I like early morning runs, I try to go out before 7am because it’s so much cooler and there’s less traffic so less hassle crossing roads.

Natty I’m really impressed by your 6km total, you must be really motoring it so no wonder you were tired out! Good luck on Sunday.

NattyGolfJerkin · 08/05/2016 11:02

WE DID IT Grin

So relieved! We took a different route and slowed it right down and we DID IT. Yessssss! Going to repeat it a few more times to really cement it before moving on. I think the new route and the slower pace definitely helped. I really enjoyed it too for the first time in a while. We ended up doing a huge loop that amounted to 10k in total, so we got a really good cool down too. I feel like I'm set up for the day now. Fab.

How is everyone else getting on?

0ellenbrody0 · 08/05/2016 20:22

Well done natty it's such an achievement! I did w9R1 - 30 mins, although I didn't bother with the app and just used Runkeeper to tell me when I'd done the time.

I left it till 5:30 ish so it cooled down a little, but I'd been out in the sun all day at an athletics meet (not me! DD11 is a runner) so was overhot and ended up feeling sick.

Have a good week everyone.

DontDoItDi · 08/05/2016 20:35

Well done Natty Smile

Rshard · 08/05/2016 21:19

Awesome Natty! I knew you'd do it. I did junior parkrun with my dd this morning. 2km in 13.15, she did her first in 14.33 two weeks ago so a pb! She's very competitive, swimmer so loves to pb!

Starting week 6 tomorrow

comeagainforbigfudge · 09/05/2016 10:57

Oh well done natty!

I seem to have hit a mental wall with jogging. Managed to jog about 20mins then had to stop. Tried to restart but was just getting too warm for me and i couldnt pick my feet up any faster. So just walked the rest of way home. On plus side i covered 5km and my walking pace was not much slower than jogging.

Think im going to go back to jogging 10min/walk 1min week but repeat it 3 times instead of two to try build up that way. (Hope it works as have 4 weeks Shock til a 10k that i to run more than i walk).

Now for some much deserved food before doing some gardening

Hope you all have a nice day

SkodaLabia · 09/05/2016 11:53

W5R1 this morning. Hard going but did it. I find sometimes running really really slowly is harder than just running really slowly, IYSWIM, it's harder to pick my feet up somehow.
