Quick 5.2 miler from me to make 577.57. Nice social run with a friend although we ran into a race which slowed us down a bit as kept having to hop to one side for them. Off out on a junk today (of the boat variety) for a friend's bday.

Sorelip · 12/09/2015 12:44

13.1 mile to add, from over three days. I did my first parkrun today and it was brilliant.

590.67

familygermsareok · 12/09/2015 15:23

Interesting chat re 'junk' miles. I'd never really thought about it before, but I can see the rationale. I realise it's a descriptive more than a derogatory term too, but just thinking about it from another perspective...........the benefits of running are not all physical.
I took up (and continued) running mainly because of the huge benefit to my mental well being, although the physical benefits have been brilliant too. I get such a sense of peace, calm and simple deep happiness during and after a run. I suspect most of my miles are physically junk but almost none of them are mentally Smile

No running today though, missed parkrun as DS1 wanted to do a longer run but he woke up with a cold and didn't feel up to it. Then the weather became wild, wet and windy. Inner Peace will have to wait till tomorrow Wink

Glad you enjoyed parkrun Sorelip, they are great.

Wild boar sound a bit scary, are they not quite dangerous?

suzannefollowmyvan · 12/09/2015 16:04

I suspect that some of my miles may have crossed the line where the long term damage is not worth the euphoria fix, I think I might swap some of my miles for swimming, would that be the exercise addicts version of a speedball?

8 miles from me 598.67

MyBlackCat · 12/09/2015 16:51

3.1 Parkrun miles from me this morning - bit disappointed with my time but plenty room for improvement for next week.

601.77

cinnamongreyhound · 12/09/2015 18:12

4 miles from my parkrun and there and back 605.77

KeyserSophie · 13/09/2015 09:09

family Only if threatened/ cornered usually. They are naturally quite shy and avoid people- the ones I saw ran off into the undergrowth as soon as they heard me. Unfortunately idiots feed them (especially the babies) and then they do get aggressive because they associate people with food - same story with the monkeys.

suzannefollowmyvan · 13/09/2015 10:10

I have an idea that farmed pigs can be dangerous and unless informed otherwise would extrapolate from that and be even more scared of a wild porcine creature ??Shock

Always something out to get the runners, men shouting out of cars, dogs chasing, wild animals, zombies
So much to run from! ??
??

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/09/2015 10:17

[suzanne] you can add the spliffed-up teenagers who chased me a few months ago to the list.

I was out in my local country park a little while ago and a lady stopped me to say she was sure she'd heard something big rustling in the undergrowth - I think it was a muntjac, as I'd seen one scooting across the road a couple of weeks before.

3.1 parkrun miles from yesterday. Hoping to fit in a longer run later, but have lots to do at home today.

608.87

suzannefollowmyvan · 13/09/2015 10:31

I frequently get a whiff of Maryjane, but never actually had problems with the cannabinoidally challenged

presume they were easy to outrun Ohone?

Anglaise1 · 13/09/2015 10:42

We have the hunting season here to contend with too, from next Sunday. Lots of sometimes inebriated men and their dogs wandering about the fields with guns on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its important to wear high viz gear when running on the footpaths. I've had a couple of close encounters with wild boar but as Keyser said they are usually fine if not cornered. They can run pretty fast! I'd take a wild boar over a drunk hunter.
13 miles from me this weekend, some dog running but mostly the club run this morning. 50mins at 9kph, 10mins at 11kph and then 10mins at 13.5kph. Club coach is back of summer break and I got usual lecture about running too much and too often.

could you humour him and fib a little about your mileage Anglaise?

emummy · 13/09/2015 11:48

Nice easy run in sunshine this morning, tapering for hm. Missed a run this week as had to drive to Glasgow and back for a funeral on Friday, then did something unpleasant to my back yesterday morning. It seems a bit better today so just being careful.
628

familygermsareok · 13/09/2015 16:04

Grin suzanne.
I am quite reassured by the wildlife in the UK being generally of the cosy, non-threatening variety (excepting other humanoids of course). I think I might be the one running off into the undergrowth (or climbing a tree) if I came face to face with a wild boar!
Although there has been talk of returning lynx and wolves to Scotland.............

Hope your back is ok emummy. When is your hm?

11.7 from me this morning. A bit further than planned, but it was a lovely morning and no time pressure for once as DS1's football had a late kick-off.

628 +11.7 = 639.7

suzannefollowmyvan · 13/09/2015 16:08

wolves
I see them all the time, or at least dogs which may as well be wolves, there are people out walking with whole packs of these creaturesShock

emummy · 13/09/2015 16:25

Hm is next Saturday family, at Crathes castle, so just a 15 minute walk away! Back a little easier just now, so fingers crossed. I think the problem is actually around SI joints & piriformis muscles, so am thinking a visit to the physio might be in order.

suzannefollowmyvan · 13/09/2015 16:38

so am thinking a visit to the physio might be in order

I've just booked a visit to the physio Emummy, I like to keep on top of these things, at least they can reassure you that you're not doing any damage by carrying on with running

Anglaise1 · 13/09/2015 17:38

emummy yes definitely see a physio if you can. But I'm glad your back is feeling better now. And as you are tapering that should give it some rest before your HM on Saturday.
Suzanne my running is a bit of a running joke between us now, my coach know because I run with other people from the club outside of the training sessions. At least he has a good excuse if I don't hit the time he estimates for a race...because I don't stick rigidly enough to his training plans.

runtothehills · 13/09/2015 20:23

Anglaise shooting season here too, keep meeting people in plus fours with rifles on the hill sending disparaging looks at my dog!!

emummy my back hurts after longer distances/big hills usually once the control of stability around my pelvis fatigues. Do you do any pilates/yoga/body balance?? Fingers crossed for good weather next weekend for Crathes. We're off to Fort William again as DH doing a long distance MTB race (suppose I should let him do something for a change Grin).

4 hungover and very junky miles yesterday, though good for clearing head.

643.7

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/09/2015 20:45

I wasn't going to run tonight - my afternoon was interrupted by having to go and collect DS1 from a bike ride after he had a puncture - but DH encouraged me out of the door (did I mention I'm a bit stressed at the moment Grin) and I am so glad he did. I had a great run, parts of which were really fast (by my standards). And just before I got home I met a little girl in a princess Elsa outfit and we had a nice little chat:

LG - I'm a princess
Me - Wow, I've never met a princess before
LG - I'm princess Elsa
Me - Are you the real princess Elsa?
LG - Yes, I'm the real princess Elsa
Me - Fantastic, I'm really pleased to have met you.
LG (to her parents) - She's a nice lady isn't she?
Parents - yes she is nice isn't she

Grin Grin Grin

It reminded me of when DSs used to be power rangers/batman/spiderman

DS2 won his footie match, and DH completed the bike ride (he was out with DS1) so we have all had a good bit of exercise today Smile

emummy hope the back gets better in time for next week!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/09/2015 20:56

Purpletoes · 13/09/2015 22:25

6.2 from me today. I did my 1st 10k since 2013. It was quite hilly well 3 laps of the same hill! My time was ok but a bit gutting as it was 65mins and 1sec! Angry would have loved to have been sub 65! I started out quite slow as I jarred my calf messing around with DS yesterday doing hop little bunny!

I Have to remember that I am only back running 6 months post DD. my boobs did remind me after the race and when I got home though especially as she decided she didn't want any milk immediately Blush

Although that was my best 10k time by 11 mins as my last ones were in 2013.
Well at least I can aim for a better time in 8 weeks which is when the next10k is and it's flat!

emummy hope back is better for your race next week.
ohone I love conversations like that with little ones.

655.73

FlukeSkyeRunner · 14/09/2015 09:35

5.75 from my last couple of runs.

I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunset last night while I was running. I'm back up to 25 minute runs now without any shin splint recurrence... hopefully 30 minutes next week.

661.48

suzannefollowmyvan · 14/09/2015 14:26

9.5 from me
wind, rain and rough sea
glute area still sore but a bit less so

670.98

KeyserSophie · 14/09/2015 14:43

Adding 5 to make 675.98. No wild boars tonight, just porcupines looking for the food that well meaning but misguided individuals leave out for the feral cats. They really are odd looking- much scruffier than the African porcupines. Weather has turned. Evenings are much cooler and the humidity has dropped. Long may it last.
