well done all racersStar
Happy 40th AggressiveBuntingCake

and just nice work everyone for keeping at it:o

Lilicat1013 · 29/06/2015 14:55

Happy birthday AggressiveBunting!

I love hearing about everyone's runs, you all can run for so far and so fast. It is really impressive and something for me to aim towards.

I am getting a bit pissed off with it things at the moment as the heat is proving a real problem, no matter how early I get up it is still hot to the point it is a bit risky for me (I am epileptic and over heating increases seizures).

I have 'find my iPhone' on so if I don't come home at least my husband can come out and find me but I would prefer it to cool down so it would be less of an issue. I possibly also need to get an epilepsy awareness wristband or something so I don't scare anyone if I collapse, I usually have a card in my purse but that doesn't help much when out running.

I started Zombies Run main game today after finishing Couch to 5k, the first story is 40 mins long and I managed to (slowly) jog the whole things but I wasn't able to speed up enough to escape the zombie attacks at the relevant bits. I am trying to focus on the fact I jogged the whole thing which a few weeks ago would never have happened.

Loueytb3 · 29/06/2015 16:23

Slinking back in…

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks, this term is just brutal, and more so than usual with DS3 finishing nursery/starting school. There are so many events/meetings to go to and I'm trying to juggle everything with work and fitting in runs. To top it all, DS1 is going through a really tricky phase and DS3 has suddenly developed nightmares about things in his room and is waking up all hours this too will pass

Happy 40th Aggressive – the party sounds fab. Hope the hangover is easing. We will almost have HK temps here this week, although not the humidity. Should make it interesting running.

lilicat that sounds tough. I get headaches when it gets hotter but that's nothing compared to your problems. Running with your phone is a good idea and so is the wristband.

runtothehills well done on your first marathon distance. What's next on your bucket list?

shovetheholly I was also going to say that 10 min miles are not slow! Sounds like you need to slow down a bit – I'm sure you will get your mojo back soon.

Well done to anglaise, cinnamon, annperkins and anyone else who has been racing.

Have loads of miles to add to make up for lack of posts – 83.8 since 15th June. Marathon training is going to plan at the moment.

1444.22 with my miles and I'm not sure that anyone added in Neeko's 3 miles so that takes it to 1447.22

familygermsareok · 29/06/2015 18:54

Oops, you are right emummy, Portsoy is in Aberdeenshire. We are staying in Moray and it isn't far away so I just assumed! Blush
Thanks for the tips from you and runtothehills, we will definitely visit the ice cream shop and chippers. Bananas have been banned from Portsoy during the festival as they are bad luck for boats apparently, so I will have an ice cream instead of my customary post race banana Grin
Happy hols to you and Neeko, hope you get some good running in Smile

cinnamon I love the look of those races. I would love to do one but unfortunately live just too far away, I am in mid Scotland. There is a trail race I am looking at, the Antonine Wall one, it is in Oct but this year's date wasn't confirmed last time I checked and I'm just not sure if I'm up to it yet. Which one are you thinking of doing?

holly I also think 10 min miles are not slow! And you are running 5k three times a week already. On a c25k course it would take quite a while to build up to that. I second emummy's advice re taking it a bit more gradually. I hope you regain your runners high, I'm sure it will come with time.

Well done Ann on your race, Lilicat on running the whole 40 mins (but have you become a zombie yourself now if you were caught??) and Louey on keeping up the training despite everything Smile
Sounds tough managing the epilepsy in the heat Lilicat, is there an air conditioned gym that would give you some sessions without having to pay for membership? Our local gym will sell 10 session tickets with no time expiry.

lastqueenofscotland · 29/06/2015 20:09

Been a bit quiet from me!! 6.43 tonight. Much too warm for this nonsense
1453.65
Hope everyone is doing good!!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/06/2015 21:17

Hi shovetheholly! I would say 6 weeks is very short, 10min miles isn't incredibly slow and 50lb is a lot to gain so give yourself a break!!! Give it a bit longer and be kinder to yourself, slow it down a bit you can always speed up later and I'm sure you will enjoy it more.

Now I have 3 AnnPerkins, I see how it can knacker you! All you need is a couple of them to have something going on and you're buggered! Hope it all settles down soon, my ds2 is starting school in sept too.

It wasn't too bad at 6.30am when I walked the dogs this morning but 21C at 8.30 when we came back from my mums this evening Sad

Anglaise1 · 29/06/2015 21:41

Holly good advice from emummy maybe building up gently even though you ran before would be better.
Well done to all the runners, especially in this heat, sorry you are suffering so much Lili be careful especially with the epilepsy. We are very lucky around here as there are plenty of shaded footpaths and a disused railway line which has trees and shade for most of its 45km length, especially the part I live close to.
Louey welcome back to you and your mileage and good luck with your marathon training, when is it?
Sorry to anyone I've missed, just finished 2 hours of gîte ironing so am a bit brain dead. Temperatures of 35°C forecast here tomorrow, (which is probably chilly for Aggressive!)
7.6 recuperation miles today with my border collie.
1461.25

It is harder in the warm weather I agree but so far I've acclimatized somewhat and I am coping ok, I run 'easy',stop for a drink every few miles etc

Getting a bit exasperated with my other half who is suddenly warning me that the hot weather is DANGEROUS and I could easily over heat and DIE.
As if I can't tell when I'm too hotHmm
Plus I run on a windy seafront, not the Sahara ?Confused

lastqueenofscotland · 29/06/2015 21:52

Anglaise/Aggressive whereabouts are you based? Assume not the UK!

PoppyShakespeare · 29/06/2015 21:56

am finding it slightly easier now it's warm!

1461.25 + 3 = 1464.25

AggressiveBunting · 30/06/2015 02:57

Last queen I'm in Hong Kong. Lived here nearly 6 years now (and in Dubai before that). I have acclimatised somewhat, but still relieved when the temps start to drop (at least we have seasons, unlike Singapore). I had 2 late summer babies so was heavily pregnant twice in a HK summer and that was worse than running I must say. My cankles were a sight to behold.

Adding 5 from last night to make 1469.25. Bit disappointed as was sure I'd run a PB but was 1 minute out even though I really felt I'd "gone large". I did get a PB for one of the Strava segments though (one of the hills) which was a positive. Does anyone else use Strava? I quite like it to stalk my competitors see what other runners are doing but I reckon you could get obsessed with the segments and end up just racing them repeatedly tryingto get on the leaderboards.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/06/2015 07:54

3 1 parkrun miles to add to the monthly totalSmile some amazing running reports from the weekendSmile

I am also in the end of school vortex with both DCs finishing their respective schools.

DH is benched for at least 3 weeks with a bruised tendon and possible meniscus tear-he has to wait for the swelling to go down to see the extent of the damage.

Anglaise1 · 30/06/2015 07:55

Glad you are finding it easier to run now Poppy. Is your thyroid condition improving?
Last Queen I'm in Brittany in North West France, so climate similar to Cornwall but a couple of degrees warmer, that's all. I moved here 13 years ago but only started running seriously with a local club in the last 2 years. I've never seen any other British expat at any races I've done here.
Suzanne I had a scan for my PITA yesterday, it is tendonitis. I didn't even know there were tendons in the bottom but apparently that is my problem, not the sciatic nerve. Have an appointment with a sports specialist doctor next week so hopefully he'll be able to give some advice on that (and my runners trots problem!)

PoppyShakespeare · 30/06/2015 08:16

yes, thankfully! it has to stay in range for at least 3 months for everything to sort of repair itself and to put me back where I was before - I just wanted to know when I could expect to run more than 4 miles at a time without it feeling like 12-13 in terms of effort, fatigue, recovery etc, my 8 miles a week feels like 25-30 Confused

wonder what they will do about your bum tendons? any idea?

PoppyShakespeare · 30/06/2015 08:24

will be mooching along your southerly coast soon Anglaise from Carcassone to Cap Ferrat and will see what 'running' in the high 30s feels like

LornMowa · 30/06/2015 08:52

Thanks for sharing all your stories everyone. You are all an inspiration to me and it is mainly this thread that got me started on running.

I am adding a rather pathetic 2x 2.5 miles since my post last week as I am a woman on the verge of a calf strain. I was away at the weekend so hill walked with the family and didn't find any time to run.

I realise that I will never make a long distance runner so I am concentrating on training for a sprint triathlon. I tried out my new tri top as it was so hot this morning. I am very pleased with it because it has pockets on the back and it didn't rub under my arm unlike my running vest.

Happy running everyone! New total is 1474.25

HalleLouja · 30/06/2015 09:03

Just marking my place. Not run since last Thursday as I was on a weekend away but thought I would say hi.

HalleLouja · 30/06/2015 09:07

Aggressive I do love a bit of Strava. The graphs and segments are great. I wish I realised this when I bought my watch. I would have bought a Tomtom rather than Garmin...

suzannecanthecan · 30/06/2015 09:12

?
Of course there are tendons in the derriere Anglaise :o
I was told mine was a tendon issue too (sacro tuberous ligament) I made a few changes but it's hard to know for sure what has led to the improvement.

Will be interesting to see what your specialist recommends, physio said do shorter more frequent runs but I haven't, every other day seems to work better for me.Confused
I wonder what he'll say about the gastric problems? There doesn't seem to be too much agreement about what exactly is going on with those sorts of problems (?)?

lastqueenofscotland · 30/06/2015 10:39

Small world aggressive! I grew up in hk and pop back occasionally.
I can't imagine running there though!
5.64 from me this morning and nearly died in the heat. Ok in the shade but once you're out of it... Urgg.
I've got a long 15 miler planned. This weekend Don't have a water bottle bigger than 500ml and worried going to get bbc dehydrated Confused any ideas?!

1479.89

lastqueenofscotland · 30/06/2015 10:39

Bloody phone!! Very not bbc....

Whowouldfardelsbear · 30/06/2015 11:00

A little 2.52 miles from me tonight. I was aiming for a 5k (doing little runs this week before my 10k race Sunday morning) but I went out too soon after fish n chips for tea and started feeling quite sick after about 15 minutes!

Well done on some impressive race times and marathon distances there everyone! Grin

1482.41

PoppyShakespeare · 30/06/2015 11:02

4 from me

1482.41 + 4 = 1486.41

shovetheholly · 30/06/2015 11:30

Thank you all so much for the advice! I will slow down and scale back a bit, and stop champing at the bit (impatience is a vice with me).

I am in awe of some of your mileage totals! Shock Are those since January? So many of you run 50- 60 miles a week - wow!
