We post and add our mileage to the running (pun intended) total.

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 19:08

That's great, I'm so pleased this thread popped up on 'active'

cinnamongreyhound · 27/06/2015 19:43

Hi GeumpyOldBiddy2, 30mins is a very respectable 5k! The numbers are the total miles for everyone on the thread for the particular month we are in.

Well done Lilicat1013!

Love your analegy Suzannecanthecan Grin

No miles from me as I was RD at parkrun but I'm trying to arrange a run around dh's work in the morning Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 27/06/2015 19:44

Very slow typing several x posts Blush

emummy · 28/06/2015 09:34

Short hilly trail run for me this morning, not much time as taking dd2 to another athletics meeting down in Dundee. Packing for all weathers!

4 miles today with my friend and doggies, she wasn't feeling well so a couple of stops and lost her car key along the way but always nice to have a chat and the dogs well exercised! Have also posted a map of the race from Friday, very wibbly and wobbly Smile

I hope everyone racing this weekend achieved what they wanted! I managed 2nd woman overall so got my sabot trophy Grin and the best thing was that I was 5 mins faster than on the same course last year. 2 hours for a forest trail race of 23kms (no ascent but a lot of zig zags and footpaths all the way). Surprised to be in front of my friend who is in training for the Mont Blanc, she is faster than me on road races and flat conditions but I seem to beat her in trail races because I don't slow down for the hills. 18 miles to add from race plus warm ups:

Well done Anglaise and a great result Grin.

I'm checking in with a very tough 28 miles, went off too fast (50 min first 10k Shock and paid for it later. Like Anglaise I'm far better on the trail and overtook a lot on the technical bit, but the run out at the end was considerably slower than the first 10k and a few hauled me back. Not helped by a big fall on the descent and a pulled groin muscle. Despite all this, however, I am so chuffed and happy. My first Marathon distance, and a huge tick off my Bucket list Grin

Anglaise1 · 28/06/2015 21:10

Runforthehills fantastic - your first marathon + distance, and as a trail not the same thing at all. Well done! Pacing is so important in long races, I'm always a lot quicker on the first half of a race than the second, but I'm lucky to be very endurant (?) so I don't suffer too much.
There are many runners who set off far too quickly on long races and then have nothing more to give at the end of a race (many reduced to walking) - especially men!

Purpletoes · 28/06/2015 21:50

Well done angelaise and runforthehills. They are amazing achievements.

Also well done to cinnamongreyhound on your race on Friday.
I went for a run this morning my pils very kindly looked after the children so my oh could come with me. We ran 6km in 42 mins. Not fast but I kept it steady pace and didn't walk any of it.

It was lovely through a local woods and park and halfway through it started to softly rain which helped cool me down.

I think I might bite the bullet and try a run with the local running club on Tuesday they have a group which run at a pace of 11-1230 min/miles so I can definitely keep up in that.

Massive congrats on race achievements to Cinnamon, Anglaise and Runtothehills

Runtothehills I always go off too fast- it's my USP. I had a similar thing happen to me in a race last year where I lost 5 places in the 5k run in (2 k downhill, 3k catchwater, all tarmac). The more experienced runners made sure they had something left to benefit from the tarmac running, whereas I had basically emptied the tank way before that. Next time, next time Grin Hope you're ok from your fall. It's a sign of a good trail race where all the finishers have bloody knees.

Anglaise Well done- glad my podium vibes paid off. That's a seriously good trail time. UTMB is calling you.......

Cinnamon You're coming back so fast from DC3. I'm seriously impressed. Did your friend find her keys? It's my big dread cos we only have 1 set and I'm too tight to get another (400 quid!!!)

Nothing to add for me from yesterday. Was planning a 10k run but then went out for dinner with some friends on Saturday night, or thought I was, and then turned up and it was actually my surprise 40th bday party, so bit of a sore head on Sunday plus some friends had flown in for the party from overseas so spent the day with them. This week I will mainly be drinking water and eating vegetables.

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 29/06/2015 06:12

3.7 miles - I'm back!!!!

Thanks for the pep talk

I think 1330.8 + 3.7 = 1334.5

cinnamongreyhound · 29/06/2015 06:54

Wow Anglaise1 and runtothehills, you're both amazing!!!

Yes I found them for her AgressiveBunting, she looked around the car and I went back to where she had picked up dog poo as I guessed she knocked it out with the bags which she had, phew!

Anglaise1 · 29/06/2015 08:43

Cinnamon I'm so sorry, I missed your 5 mile race, a great time, and so soon after having DS3 too!
Aggressive Glad you had a good birthday, there are some things that take priority over running! Yes, I was pleased with my time, it shows that all those kms per week help, despite my coach saying that I run too much.
What I like about long races is that age is no barrier - the woman in first place for the race yesterday was a Veteran 2 (same category as me, age 49 - 59). It always feels good overtaking younger runners. Endurance isn't age dependent at all (unlike speed).

Fantastic results Anglaise, Runtothehills and cinnamon Star Star Star .Well done on podium place Anglaise Smile

I have never run a trail race although one of my hm's was multi terrain. I would love to try one, I really enjoy trail running although am much slower than on roads, and probably too cautious going downhill.

Happy birthday Aggressive, what a lovely surprise Smile

We are away on hols in N Scotland now and after far too much wine and chocolate last night I got up for a (very) gentle run this morning. DS1 came too, so a slow 5 miles from us along lovely coastal paths in warm sunshine.
There are some races on Sunday in a nearby town as part of a local Boat Festival, so DH and the DS's have entered the 2k one and I have entered the 10k. I will turn DH into a runner yet!! Wink
It is in Portsoy in Moray. Is that anywhere near you Runtothehills or emummy ?

1334.5 + 5 = 1339.5

Neeko · 29/06/2015 09:28

Rushing in to add my 3 miles from this morning. Off on holiday for a week. Have a good week everyone.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/06/2015 09:35

Oh yes, happy birthday AggressiveBunting!

Are you of these near you familygermsareok? They're quite pricey for 10k but lots from my canicross club are doing one in October so thinking of doing it too.

runtothehills · 29/06/2015 09:48

Cinammon I missed your race too, congratulations Star

Aggressive you are so right about trying to leave something left at the end. My concern is that I feel the technical bits are the only bit I stand to take any advantage, I am not a road/flat runner and don't think it is my USP Wink. I get much better placings and times on the hill runs than on the flatter trail ones, at least that should be good when I do the Ben Nevis Race in September Smile.

Family we were up camping in Sandend near Portsoy a couple of weeks ago, lovely cliff walks, great for running. The Boat festival there is brilliant and it looks like you've chosen a good week for it. Good chipper and playpark for the kids along the road in Whitehills too. Your schools must have broken up a week before us. Enjoy!!

Can I ask some advice from ye seasoned and wise runners?

I am just starting to run again. I'm 37. I used to run a fair bit - never a champion runner or anything but committed. However, for the last 5 years, I've not been able to go because I've had an illness that got progressively worse until I could barely climb a flight of stairs at the end of last year. After a 5 year fight with my GP, I was finally referred to a consultant. This year, I had 3 minor operations from January to April, and I am now physically much better. However, the 5 years has taken away all of my fitness, and I'm also 50lb heavier than I was before (my BMI is now just over 25, it was 17.2. I used to eat like a horse, but I would run it all off).

I started running again six weeks ago, but I'm really struggling. I'm doing 3 miles at an incredibly slow pace (10 min miles) 3 times a week. I take rest intervals when I'm out ever mile or so. There is no good feeling of highness or lightness like I remember from before. My legs feel unbelievably heavy when I'm exercising, and I ache all the rest of the time. I'm SO tired. There are moments in the run where it feels like my brain and body are not properly synched - I just had one in woodland, and I didn't clear a tree root, and went hurtling over a small hill. No harm done - just bruised and scratched - but I am wondering, is this normal for a beginner? Have I just lost proprioception or is something else up? (I can't remember what it felt like when I took it up last time).

emummy · 29/06/2015 10:46

Short easy run this morning, start of hm training plan no.2. Hot too, glad I'm not down south. Take care all of you out running in the heat!
Congrats to the racers from this weekend,, didn't you do well!
family I think Portsoy is in Aberdeenshire, not Moray! We camped in Sandend a few years ago too, great part of the world. Hope you have a good time, and be sure to get ice cream from the Portsoy ice cream shop, I think there's only one! The fish & chips are nice too. We are going down to Fife on Saturday for our week's holiday, hoping to run on the coast path.
shove the holly 10 minute miles aren't that slow! Maybe you should do some shorter distances and do a combo of walk/run until you feel stronger. To do 3 miles 3 times a week after only 6 weeks, and when you have been so unwell and you are a bit heavier than before, is pretty good going, but maybe too much too soon? I think if you take it a bit easier and build up gradually you'll get there. The tripping may be because you were too tired. Take it easy, especially in this heat and be kind to yourself, you sound like you have had quite a bit to overcome.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 29/06/2015 10:58

Wow, runforthehills Star for you! Congrats to all of the other racers too, well done all.

Happy birthday, agressive Cake & Flowers

Just a treadmill 3.3 from me today. I've decided to treadmill for a bit to reduce impact on my knee. I think the road running is a bit too much on it at the moment, even in short distances and I want to keep going so treadmill it is. Not quite the same but on the plus side, I can watch telly mid run Wink.

Hi everyone. Happy 40th Aggressive!

Well done on the fantastic race results cinnamon, anglaise, runtothehills.

Glad you managed a 'good' run GrumpyOldBiddy. It's great when you have one and you can't wait to go out again.

I did a 5k fun run yesterday. No accurate time because of a combination of me not paying attention at the finish line and the timer bloke getting all muddled up. Officially it was 32.25 but I had been standing chatting for at least 2 minutes. Had I known the course I might have worried a bit more about being prepared. There was a nasty hill and a strength-sapping muddy farmer's field followed by gravel drive, all of which had to be negotiated twice. I felt good though and really enjoyed it.

There was a 2k race for children which DS flatly refused to enter, or even watch. I will make a runner of him yet.

I can't say I'm looking forward to this week's runs. I'm not good in the hot weather. I have to go out tomorrow night but even at 9pm it's going to be around 26deg. I pity my DH more, though, he has to do karate training in a school hall with no aircon or blinds to keep the sun from streaming through the windows. And he's got sunburn.
