11.5 from me
738.17

wine tasting is just about the last thing I would want to do in the middle of a runShock
I have no head for drink at the best of times

Anglaise1 · 16/07/2015 17:47

emummy fingers crossed for a smooth injury free 12 weeks for you! Suzanne no, the idea of wine on a run is pretty awful, although I did have a beer on a very hot 40km trail race (near the end) last September which was lovely.
10 miles from me, 6,5 this morning (lovely) 3.5 this evening (not so nice, temperature here is 35°C in the shade). I think I lost 2kgs in water through sweating so much.
I generally prefer morning running cos once it's done it's done and I feel good for the next few hours at least.

oh yes another good reason to run in the morning Anglaise...you get the full benefit of the post exercise euphoria:)

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2015 20:41

Agree with greater effects from the post run glow!! I do both and enjoy both. Hopefully going tomorrow if my littlest co-operates with morning feed! Have run two evenings this week though and will parkrun Saturday. Miss my Sunday long run at the moment but dh would kill me if I did both weekend days and I love parkrun too much!

Get well soon KeyserSophie!

Anglaise1 · 16/07/2015 21:41

Cinnamon I know what you mean - I never run Saturdays in the summer because I work, but I love my Sunday runs...unfortunately Sunday is the only day off for OH and he really resents it. I hate lie ins, I don't know what to do and for me a Sunday run with friends is the best thing, then I can relax for the rest of the day with that post run glow. Sadly it is only something runners understand, non runners just don't get it Sad

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2015 22:00

Exactly that Anglaise1, I get twitchy and want to get up and get going which annoys him! When I was 5st heavier and didn't run I loved a Sunday layin so I feel bad that I'm the one who's changed and dh always wanted to it.

suzannecanthecan · 16/07/2015 22:21

you could just quietly get up and leave the men snoring, they'd not know any difference surely?

stilllearnin · 16/07/2015 22:58

Hello Hello I am back from a six week bleed (well I had the odd day off but it was hot and I was tired - sorry tmi I know). I need to RTFT but I am just adding a measly but surprisingly ok 2.9 to make

751.07

KeyserSophie · 17/07/2015 02:52

Adding 4 from the dreadmill this morning to make 755.07 - just checking I'm fit and my balance isnt too off before spending tomorrow doing a course recce for a trail race in October (we sponsor the race so about 40 people from work take part and we organise training sessions as an employee engagement thing.) Still not really sure what's wrong. Feel perfectly fine apart from blocked ear and the fact that the decongestants and cough suppresants are playing havoc with my sleep patterns.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/07/2015 07:20

Unfortunately not Suzannecanthecan, mine would be woken by me getting up and his idea of a layin is for both of us to lounge around together, if I get up so does he Confused

4 very sticky miles from me. We had a big storm last night and it's left the air saturated! 759.07

Anglaise1 · 17/07/2015 08:45

Cinnamon it's the same here, OH works 6 days a week and wants Sunday as a lie in and to spend time with me. He is convinced that running is a real addiction and couples can only be happy if both people run, not just one half.

OP posts:
suzannecanthecan · 17/07/2015 08:59

?depends what your criteria are for addiction but isn't the underlying 'concern'? to do with you having a passion for something which means that you don't focus on him as much as he feels you ought to?
?
I suppose we all vary in terms of how much 'togetherness' we are comfortable with but I would never put up with being told what time I can get up and any partner who tried to curtail my various fitness endeavors...well I'm not sure what I'd do because none of them have tried to!

suzannecanthecan · 17/07/2015 09:06

As for both of a couple running he'd never keep up with you AnglaiseWink

My other half occasionally runs a few miles with me, or rather he very kindly humours me for a few miles

his slow easy pace is the same as my flat out can't go any faster pace.
Very annoying cos he hardly ever does any running and sticks to lifting, he's just naturally fit without even trying ?Confused
its not fair!

cinnamongreyhound · 17/07/2015 10:58

It's not so much allows but I he is very good with me running generally. He cooks tea the evenings I run and is happy for me to be put a couple of hours Saturday for parkrun. For me it's more of trying to do something for him as it makes him happy even though it doesn't make me as happy. If I said I'm going anyway he wouldn't stop me but I like harmony in my house Wink
He has his sport which I get annoyed about at times too.

lastqueenofscotland · 17/07/2015 14:26

My OH is really supportive of the running. He hates it himself but always asks how they went/eggs me on when I get Pbs etc :)

5.6 from me 765.67

PoppyShakespeare · 17/07/2015 14:32

don't have an other half as such but chap I've been seeing for past 18 months runs every morning before work and once at the weekend - no Garmin or club or racing, no idea of pace, solely for pleasure of it

Neeko · 17/07/2015 15:18

My DH is really supportive of my running although he doesn't run himself. I only run three mornings a week though and it's before the kids get up. Not sure how supportive he would be if I was running for a couple of hours several times a week. But then that's why I run: it's exercise that fits in with our family life.

Nice 3.75 miles from me this morning. I'm slowly building my distance back up.

769.42

TriJo · 17/07/2015 16:16

My hubby boots me out the door when I'm slacking off! He ran for 20+ years himself, has had to cut down to minimal easy mileage due to pretty much wrecking himself through overtraining for the London marathon in 2012, so he's now racing vicariously through me. I'd love nothing more for him to be able to race again, it's been a very slow buildup even to get back to this point.

PoppyShakespeare · 17/07/2015 16:19

reluctant to admit this on here but am enjoying minimal possible mileage myself, my feet look nice for once and I have loads of spare energy to spend on Being A Hypochondriac instead of nursing calf strains all the time

familygermsareok · 17/07/2015 16:32

It can be difficult keeping the balance right. DH doesn't run but he is a cyclist and we try and support each other's exercise. I often get up early for my runs at 5:15, including at weekends, so that I'm back in time for him to fit a cycle in or go to work, but it means I am wanting to go to bed by 10 and I worry that we don't get much couple time together. Neither of us are into lie ins now, but I vaguely remember the days pre children (and pre running/cycling) when we used to lie in till 11 at a weekend then pull some jeans on over our PJs to wander round to the local shop for bacon butties for lunch Blush

Adding 4.67 from Wed. No running today, weather was pants this morning so I did an Insanity instead.
769.42 + 4.67 = 774.09

phlebasconsidered · 17/07/2015 20:53

4.5 miles from me yesterday, still slower than I was but toe ok and tendon ok. Keeping up the martial arts during injury has kept core strength up, although I am feeling the half stone I piled on through not running off the wine!

Planning for 6 tommorrow if I can get out of the house before it gets too hot. I struggle with fitting in runs in the Summer because DH works until it's dark so I have the kids, and as I teach I am out the door to work too early to fit a run in too. So it's mostly all about the weekends.

I'm entering my dead zone now: kids full time for 6 weeks and the mental joy of saying goodbye to my Year 6's often leads to too much wine, plus I'm sitting outside the tent on holiday with a glass...... I am resolved to take the running kit on holiday though.

I also have a question: how long do shoes last? I'm thinking i'm maybe due a pair. Running since December, was started at couch to 5K, was up to ten miles and averaging 16-18 miles per week before injury. Wondering if perhaps my toe injury wasn't due to needing new shoes? They feel ok but they might not be?

Anglaise1 · 17/07/2015 20:56

Interesting to hear everyone else's experiences with their significant others. Mine is neither a runner or sporty, it would probably be easier if he was! He gets on with everyone in the club but still thinks that it is an addiction. But given the state I'm in after every race with my GI problems I can understand why he isn't a fan.
8 miles from today. Cooler. Siad goodbye to my DC who will be away for three weeks as they are going to the UK with their dad. I don't think I've ever been away from them for so long before! I can run whenever and how long I want...but I'll miss them a lot.

Progression run this morning, didn't quite go to plan but not too bad. I'm sure you will miss the children Anglaise, I guess just keep busy and try to appreciate the peace and quiet?!
My do has always been supportive of my running and now has taken it up himself, although he's not quite as dedicated! I went out at 7 today, he's out now.

PoppyShakespeare · 18/07/2015 12:57

3.1 treadmill miles - at usual pace so why do I sweat on treadmills when do not sweat in outside world? Hmm

786 + 3.1 = 789.1

familygermsareok · 18/07/2015 13:52

3.1 parkrun from me. Windy but refreshing.

3 weeks must feel like a long time Anglaise but hopefully you will be able to enjoy the running freedom at least, and the time will fly by.

phlebas I know what you mean about the dead zone. I can still get up for early runs before DH goes to work during school hols but I miss my unpressured long slow runs that I usually do on non working weekdays. Mine are getting older now though, so the end is nearly in sight Smile
Re shoes the usual advice is to replace them after 500 miles but I do find mine need replaced a bit earlier. I start getting niggles which resolve with new shoes so I know what to look out for now. I keep my older ones for shorter runs or softer off-road surfaces for a bit if I think they've still got some mileage in them.

789.1 + 3.1 = 792.2
