Saw the Minions yesterday with DS, it was very good, although I'm not sure Marion Cotillard is as good as Sandra Bullock and there are always some jokes which don't work in French as well as English, but as the Minions speak Minion it wasn't really that important.
Our local town Fougères has the arrival for the Tour de France tomorrow so we're off to see that, probably on the bikes as I think parking will be very difficult.
Aggressive out of interest, does your coach have an opinion on the number of times a week you should run? Mine is adamant that 4 is more than enough and anymore you aren't doing yourself any favours. This is contradicted a lot by coaches like Matt Fitzgerald who say that running every day isn't an issue for experienced runners as long as there are a couple of 'easy' days.
5.63 yesterday and 8.3 today so
533,36

First run in ten days yesterday. Fist manage on holiday due to heat and being really busy although we walked loads. Have to catch up with thread. Hope everyone is ok.

My first run in six days. A very pleasant 3.5 miles resulting in another horrendous headache. So I won't be trying again until my lovely drugs have taken effect.

Happy Tour de France watching Anglaise and bonnes vacances to all the lucky holiday makers. Glad your typhoon stayed away Aggressive. Hope everyone else is doing ok. I'm off to sulk rest for a few days.

Back to running in good old scottish wind and rain Smile. 7 miles yesterday up hill behind house. Today I ended up doing an impromptu 3 miles at the end of a walk up our nearest Corbett with the girls to go back along the road to fetch the car as youngest DD was knackered whinging (since found out she has another f**ing UTI so now feel v guilty Sad). This was followed by a lovely 12 mile run with friend from running club this evening up one of our local hills.

Saw Minions yesterday, didn't float my boat but girls loved it. My dad fell asleep!

7 + 3 + 12 + 542.96 = 564.96

4 miles home from work in the end - and to balance out the weather, a beautiful summer's day :)

570.96

KeyserSophie · 10/07/2015 06:40

Adding 7.5 on the treadmill to make 578.46. Fortunately I predicted crappy weather this morning so spent last night making a new playlist on Spotify to keep me entertained while I stared at my own reflection for a hour. Also, I havent done treadmill in ages so it wasnt too dull.

Lastqueen T8 is awesome before you have kids as no work so you can just drink mimosas in Typhoons in Wan Chai. Once you have kids it's the 8th circle of hell because no school, nothing's open and you're just in your tiny apartment with bickering kids. Long day.

Anglaise I took the kids to see Minions this morning. I feel they flogged the franchise a little too hard, but it wasnt bad. DS (5) enjoyed it, especially with his minion 3D glasses. DD (3) got a bit bored towards the end. Re the coach, I think trail running is slightly different because you dont put the same pressure on joints due to constantly adjusting your strike and stride. Certainly my coach runs every day and I know a lot of elite trail runners who do- but I also know some who do 4 runs, and 3 lots of spin, circuits etc. I think every day is fine so long as you have a progra and are strict about incoprorating easy days. I also dont see the point of these running streaks which are becoming very popular on RMR whereby people are just running junk miles every day, when they'd see much better results by doing 4 varied sessions with rest days in between. When I did the London marathon I only ran 3 times a week- 2 x 6 milers and 1 LSR, building up to 22 miles. Then did 2 PT sessions on top focusing on HIIT (although that hadnt been invented then!). I'm not sure I would have done a better time running more.

I love that this thread diverges onto all sorts of subject quite regularly!

4 beautiful but lonely miles for me, forestry commission are out and about so I didn't let the dogs off and neither of my regular buddies could make it so I'm proud that I went anyway. Feel better for it after a very emotional day yesterday with me most likely being daft over the class ds2 has been put in for his reception year. Nothing has changed but I feel better and hopefully can chat with the teacher in nursery today without crying.

KeyserSophie · 10/07/2015 07:11

Oh no Cinnamon- is it the teacher or the other kids you're worried about? I'm a bit worried about DS because despite knowing 8 or 9 other boys in his year, none will be in his class (3 form entry). I was also a teensy bit disappointed he didnt get the male teacher as he is a bit "all teachers are women" at the moment as that's all he's seen. The year is also massively boy heavy and I'm not sure if I should be worried about that too.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/07/2015 07:20

The teacher is great but she's the senco for the school and their partner school so I'm concerned how much she's in the class and who is there when she isn't. There are a couple of children who are quite boisterous but he also doesn't have any of his friends in his class. A lot of his friends are going to another school as the nursery takes 2x classes of 26 but reception is only 45 so I hoped the few that were left were in his class. They do have the door between the classes open regularly so he will mix with everyone but your class mates are still your class mates. Wow 3 form entry is a big school KeyserSophie! I think our kids are more robust than we think but it doesn't stop you worrying, I was him to have a great school experience.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/07/2015 07:27

Forgot to add to the total and notice that lastqueenofscotland added 100 miles instead of her 9.67 so I think the total is actually 492.48 taking off the 89.98 extra miles she added but please correct if wrong.

HalleLouja · 10/07/2015 09:52

About 3.5 miles of sprint training with my run coach (sounds way posher than it is) makes 495.98.

Adding a smidge over 9 with 650m ascents to make 508. Really really did not want to run this morning. Faffed around tidying up the DC's sticker books ( yeah I know) to procrastinate and then by the time I left it was scorching hot. Was actually ok when I was out there, despite a few 'ant under magnifying glass' moments and just told myself it's the runs you don't want to do which make the difference. Now collapsed with a cold Sprite. I also entered a race for 30th August as decided October is too long.

Btw, in case you haven't realised- this is Aggressive. I name changed as a tribute to the 'Sophie the Giraffe is a killer toy' thread.

karatekimmi · 11/07/2015 06:05

I'm feeling slightly less mardy about not being able to run at the minute in this heat, and am quite enjoying the fact I can lie on the sofa with the fan on me without feeling guilty!!

However I was planning on going and supporting DH and my running club at a relay event today, but it starts and finishes!! halfway up a big hill!! It's a challenging route, but after struggling for the last few days I'm not sure I should could get to the start. Sad I guess i'll lie on the sofa and watch Wimbledon. I might need to get strawberries and cream!

Enjoy your running!

Anglaise1 · 11/07/2015 13:22

11,85 from me yesterday, plus 9 from Keyser Sophie, wish I had time to run today as it is cloudy and cool but too much work in the gîtes.

Has anyone tried doing the 30 day shred alongside running? Is that the road to shredded knees? I run 5 - 6 km three times a week, and I wondered about doing the shred on my not-run days?

suzannecanthecan · 11/07/2015 17:12

It's not quite the same thing but I combine lifting with running Madmonkeys, probably if there were aspects of the shred that caused issues with running you could surely modify the workout?

MadMonkeys · 11/07/2015 17:46

Yes I guess I won't know unless I try it. Just wondered what other peoples experiences had been.

standingonlego · 11/07/2015 19:21

I found shred quite hard on my knees...but great for my bum! see how you go. However lifting and other strength stuff is working well for me.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/07/2015 21:17

Keyser yes you are probably right.

I'm in London at the moment and tried to go for 16 miles in 24 degree heat... I died after 13.24 but was a half marathon pb! Feeling a bit heat struck ATM so chilling with the doubles final and lots and lots of water.
