I want to ask MN to create a topic for yoga. Would you be interested to share ideas, tips, and achievements in our practice on a Yoga topic?

I don't think that's a free class, though. The ones I went to were just for the last two weeks.

Well, I went to my first yoga class last night and I LOVED it. I found some bits quite hard, although I was expecting that. I struggled with kneeling pas my knees were are tight, so my 'homework' is kneel (rather than sit) at home with cushions under my bum.

The yoga teacher was FAB, so relaxed and calming and just lovely. We're definitely going again. Smile

Hello all. I'm a longtime ashtanga yogi Smile. Practice 4-5 times a week and thinking of TT soon. It will be great to have a yoga topic on here!

Wondered what was happening to the yoga topic Smile

I did a vinyasa flow class today. I still really struggle with the straddle position. And leaning forward while in straddle is impossible.
Also pigeon pose - everyone else flops over. I remain virtually upright!

Stiff hips And legs Sad

Careful with the pigeon pose. I suspect that's how I gave myself a groin strain Sad

I went searching for a yoga forum and they were full of crazies and self promoters. I NEED a mumsnet yoga thread so I can talk to all the other people who struggle to fit practice in a busy life. Would be lovely to read conversations with yoga teachers too.
I've been doing yoga on and off for fifteen years but now, on the cusp of my 40th, I would like to really go for it. I've found a book called forty days of yoga which is a workbook to deal with the barriers to a home practice and a yoga topic would be tge icing on tge cake!

Yoga isn't something you can talk much about in RL, unfortunately. People think you are strange or worse, that you are bragging. I haven't been able to find a "sane" yoga forum, either. An MN topic will be great!

Well since we don't have our topic yet maybe I can ask my yoga questions here.

Does anybody know where I could get a towel that covers a yoga mat from? I bought a hideously expensive new yoga mat from my studio and it's a million times more slippery than my previous £5 Aldi mat. I've seen a few people with yoga towels with cloth hooks for hooking round the corner of your mat but I don't know where I'd get one from. I don't want to ask at the studio cause they'll probably say they have them and charge me a million quid for one.

Does anyone know?

Can anyone suggest some good ways to build strength in my arms? I'm trying to master crow pose and I can get into it but can't stay in it for more than about 2 seconds. My arms just wobble and I end up falling over.
I also want to learn how to do head stands and handstands so building arm strength would be good for them as well.

Jiminey - Two of my friends are very happy with their Yogitoes towels which they use on the Manduka mats we have in the studio.

I don't use a towel on top of the mat when in the studio but have learned the hard way not to use any cream after the shower on the mornings I go there - no face or body cream, absolutely nothing on hands or feet.

If ever you need to buy another yoga mat, I would heartily recommend the ones by Lululemon. I don't know what material they are magicked out of, but they really don't slip.

Still - We built up to headstand with the Dolphin Pose. Come up to your toes and move back and forth to build up arm & shoulder strength like this.
