I want to ask MN to create a topic for yoga. Would you be interested to share ideas, tips, and achievements in our practice on a Yoga topic?

I haven't got a mat yet. I want something thick but still easy to roll and carry around. There's a new class nearby on a Wed evening, I feel inspired to start going again.

I have not, but a friend who is a dance teacher has and said it was a blast as a one off but not for year in year out.

If I want to do that sort of thing I mess about on the TRX up in the gym

I have lulu lemon 5mm thick non slip mat, would definitely recommend for the hot room. It is also v non slip in general although it's heavy so personally I wouldn't bother outside hot room. I like tree mat but I guess that's the same as the Eco mat.

A yoga studio recently opened nearby and they are offering hot yoga for the first time in our little town. Can't decide if I should try it. Probably not, as I'm always the one asking for a window to be opened at yoga & putting A/C on in the gym. Why is yoga at 40C supposed to be a good thing? There is conflicting info online.

I started doing yoga about three weeks ago so I am a very new newbie but I'm loving it so far. Very excited that there's going to be a whole topic dedicated too it. Great idea Cote!

Cote all I can say is that it is so popular in our small town. It has a regular clientele that go virtually every day and a large chunk of them twice a day. It has been soooo popular. We have proper yogis that now love the heat. Most feel that they can go much deeper and have increased flexibility. I'd add ours isn't a Bikram studio, that's not for everyone.
Give it a go. The first few times you might hate it until you become acclimatised. Worst case scenario is you stay in child's pose for an hour Wink

Cote
I'd love to have a go at Hot Yoga am amused that the name Bikram is being dropped by all the classes after his arrest
the heat allows your muscles to stay looser for longer

BUT
apparently it can be a bit tough on those of us old enough to be prone to hot flushes!!!

Any yoga teachers on here?

Any recommendations for a sequence for example for menopausal symptom alleviation? Are they the same for period / "moon" poses? tIA

Two excellent books to help women with every stage of their lives, including menstrual cycles... The second is probably a bit more accessible (written by a Brit, rather than an Indian) and cheaper.

Hi all - another yoga enthusiast here! Very new to it, started with a body balance class about 2 years ago and when the teacher was ill and a yoga teacher took over I was hooked. I went to a class weekly until my job situation changed, but I've now found the same teacher at a local gym and I try to make her class when I can (it's only once a week). She does something called Sun Power yoga, and she is an excellent teacher, very knowledgeable but also has a sense of humour! My practice is a bit erratic (i.e. not done regularly), but when I was doing it regularly last year I loved the way my mind and body felt, and I was amazed at the strength you need - it's certainly not the happy clappy exercise I had envisaged.

Like totallypearshaped I'm interested in yoga for the menopause, specifically hot flushes. Am also interested in any online videos, or dvds as I can't go to multiple classes per week due to cost.

And I think it's a great idea to have a separate thread - I see that Justine said we could have one, have I missed it or is it not set up yet?

Jack - Welcome Smile I thought you might like to know about an upcoming yoga topic, since you had previously posted about yoga on MN.

Justine said that they would work on creating a topic for us and let us know when it is done. Hopefully any time now?

Can I join too please? Cote - bikram yoga made me black out, so I would approach with caution, personally, though I know people do get addicted.

I am still interested. I have signed up for Tai Chi classes. Recovering from back injury so want to try something gentle before I attempt yoga. Have we a Yoga thread yet?

No, we don't have a yoga topic yet, but I have faith that MNHQ are working day and night to make it happen as soon as possible Smile

I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's favourite yoga music!

I'm a Stephan Micus fan, myself. His stuff is great for yoga imho. , for example. Listen to at least where he starts singing at 4:50. Just perfect Smile

I also like slow electronic music like to go with my yoga practice. Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

I would be interested in a yoga topic so although I'm not on mumsnet much these days.

I've been practicing for around 10 years seriously with breaks around babies but started back in earnest around 3 years ago and am currently doing a teaching diploma which I love.

Well, we still don't have our topic (although MNHQ assures us that they are working on it) but I need your advice about yoga shorts. It's getting pretty hot around here, and I'd really like to get some light shorts that won't stick on me during practice and won't flutter away and show my underwear or worse to all and sundry.

Any recommendations? Where do you buy your yoga clothes?
