Hi all, I've just realised I maxed out our thread by posting the 1000th post earlier so I thought I should start a new one!

Hoping you all find me here...

Poppy - just to warn you - Pilates x is not good. Sad
Start week 5 tomorrow. I wonder what eccentric upper is??

yumyumpoppycat · 01/12/2015 22:04

Oh no Purple - that's a shame, one of the reviews I read suggested it was good. I didn't exercise today but defo will tomorrow, maybe I will try it out of curiosity. Finding it hard to fit everything in at the mo.

yumyumpoppycat · 01/12/2015 22:05

PS fantastic work following the programme.

Purpleraindeer · 04/12/2015 08:03

Did your chin up max thing arrive yet poppy? Mine did. Was great. Had to basically put it to max support tho Blush

My ability to follow the program is all to do with my hair wash schedule. I can only wash my hair in the eves after I've worked out (no time in the am) therefore no work out = dirty hair. Smile

Purpleraindeer · 06/12/2015 09:43

Just put my measurements into that us navy body fat calculator. 27% Blush
Am a bit fed up with that tbh

yumyumpoppycat · 06/12/2015 23:38

Hopefully going to get my chin up thing from post office tomorrow Purple. I dread to think what my body fat is at the mo. I had to wear a dress from this time last year and it was tighter ....noooooooooooooooo. To befair I was low carbing at that point to slim down for a wedding but still not where I wanted to be. You have been working really hard, are dedicated and getting superfit plus you are slim so who cares what navy calculator says. Its prob wrong anyway. How are you doing with upping protein, I am finding it pretty hard!

Purpleraindeer · 08/12/2015 07:34

Getting the 'right' amount of protein seems to be almost impossible for me poppy. Might be achievable if I had eggs for breakfast but I really like porridge and don't want to give that up! Other alternative is protein powder and I feel weird about having that. Not sure why really
I'm going to give the advice you gave me right back to you. Body fat percentage and dress size feels important, but it's not as important as being fit, healthy and exercising regularly which we both do.
Just on that - someone I know went on a 'thinner leaner stronger' exercise regime and ended up being super obsessive and took it much too far. She now has a body fat of 6% has no periods and has developed an eating disorder. In light of that I'm at peace with my 27%!
Eccentric Lower last night. was hard. Some exercises I couldn't even complete. Ow!

Boobz · 09/12/2015 10:19

Cooo-eeee!

Gosh it's got quiet in here - only 3 of you chatting really, and me lurking. Thanks for all the congrats dolled out a few weeks ago - I am now 4 weeks post mastecomy and it still feels tight and a bit tender across my chest, so am going to have to be patient I think. I am going to buy some super strength sports bras and wear two of them I reckon (I was expecting to be smaller by now, as the swelling went down, but they still appear to be massive... hmm) so that I can go out for a gentle run next week. I am supposed to be running the Rome marathon in 4 months and I have only ever run 30km in one go, so I do really need to start training!

Interesting to see what you wrote there Purple about taking things too far - I think I have been on the cusp of that a couple of times, but never quite falling over the edge! I weighed in today at 57kg (but am not sure I believe these new-ish scales) as none of my pre-surgery clothes fit (and I mean on the bottom half, not the boobs which is to be expected) and so I feel bigger than the weight says. I keep flirting with intermittent fasting but then caving to wine in the evenings (I am such a lush!) and then crisps quickly follow. Gah. I need to start something - I have basically been the least exercising/watching what I eat since I was last pregnant probably! And I know I have a good excuse, but I really do want to get back into at least ONE pair of my nice jeans...

It's almost a year since this thread started isn't it? And only the hardcore peeps still on here!

Purple how is your pull up challenge coming along? I always think you are so good at being flexible with routines - I never stray from the path of the schedule, even if I don't like it/feel like it, as I believe that I must do it the way Shaun T/Tony intended to get the right results.

Yum - I too am going to get back on mfp I reckon - although I know where all my calories are coming from....

Jackster how is Turbo working out?

I guess I will start posting more when I can actually start exercising properly. And before you know it Purple I will be back in London next summer, and we can start a Barry's date night together or something.

Boobz · 09/12/2015 10:25

I just checked out my own pictures on my profile as I couldn't remember which ones I'd put up. There is the before/after photo of me from Kenya when I was low carbing (Zone diet), 90 days of P90X and running about 30-40km a week as well (not all in one run!)... I was also doing Bikram yoga 4 days a week.

Hmmm. I would really like to be the girl in the after photo again. I am going to start the running for the marathon training, and low carbing seems to be easier for me than fasting, so I think I will do P90X again (which I have sort of started twice this year but then chemo fucking it up). So the only thing that will be missing is Bikram (which is a no-go here in Rome - only one studio that does it properly and it's miles from me and really expensive/smelly).

Purpleraindeer · 10/12/2015 07:37

Hi boobz. Glad the recovery is going ok. Do be careful re the return to exercise - is there something less high impact than running you could do first - nothing like your situation but I recall my return to running post dd wearing 2 sports bras and it was painful!
I looked at the photos on you profile. Omg your back is ridiculous (in good way!). Am nowhere near that yet. Pull up challenge going ok - am gradually reducing the support from the pull up assist. I might just get there by Xmas.... But I can't see me banging out a set of 10 for a while/ever!

Am really enjoying p90x3 now I've got used to Tony and his cheesiness. What are your fave p90x work outs and I might see if I can find them online? Did mmx (martial arts one) last night. I hate that sort of thing so had been dreading it but actually loved it. Coordination was hard and I'm not sure my jabs/crosses/uppercuts really looked different to each other but it was a bloody good work out. My only complaint with p90x3 is the cardio isn't good so perhaps when I'm finished (I am slavishly following the program at the mo) I'll mix it up with some max 30 as I feel like I'm stronger but less fit than I was.
Anyway - hope to see more people on here soon. You must all be out enjoying Xmas parties. It is rather logistically challenging for me to go to them so I'm at home every night exercising away - I am a loser/really commited Blush.... I did have my first mince pie last night tho Smile

Boobz · 10/12/2015 13:53

Hey Purple - good to see you! I know I need to be careful, but I don't really know what exercises I can do which will work me out without moving my chest - I can't see myself doing endless squats all day and I don't have a seated bike or elliptical runner (not a member of a gym). I dunno - I'll give it another week and then see how I feel.

As for fave P90X vids... I really like legs and back and Ab Ripper X (in fact I really do prefer Ab ripper X to Insanity's ab work outs for some reason - shorter but harder and it REALLY works if you do it 3 times a week for 3 months). The main cardio ones are Plyometrics and Kenpo X, and both are alright but if I'm honest I prefer the month 2 Insanity work outs to those 2 - much sweatier!. All the others are just lots of weight lifting, press ups and pull ups really, working groups of muscles, so no real favourite. But it really does work if you committed (and eat well too).

Gah even just talking about it with you makes me all eager to get going - I am sooooo impatient! I tried doing a press up yesterday, to test the waters... wasn't a good idea.

If you are at home every night exercising away, you must look/feel amazing at the moment. I had a bit of a reminisce through the thread yesterday and saw your before and after photos Purple - still blows me away.

Jacksterbear · 12/12/2015 20:37

Hey guys, been absent yet again sir to personal crap (long story short - I mentioned my SS was not coping well at school... well we all reached breaking point and ending up taking him out of school and will be home edding for the time being... eek! Shock). Anyway have been just about keeping up with exercise, as a priority for my own mental health. I haven't got very far with Turbofire yet (have been doing other stuff) as I think it will take time and dedication to get to grips with - not the sort of thing you can just get going on, very easily.

Boobz - was going to suggest exercise bike. Can you buy a cheap-ish one or join a gym for a few months?

Purple great work on p90x3. poppy can't remember which programme you are following at the mo - remind me!

Thread is nearly full peeps! Smile

Purpleraindeer · 13/12/2015 07:30

Well am not looking as amazing as you'd really expect given the amount of exercising I'm doing. This proves that it's 80% diet as I'm not really watching that. Ah well. Turns out you can't get a 6 pack of you eat loads of Lindt chocolates. Who knew?

Bought some new 8kg Dumbbells yesterday. Exciting. The bloke in Argos asked whether I needed help taking them to the car Grin!actually turned out he was right. They're ridiculous. Prob won't be able to even lift my hairbrush up to brush my hair this am as I'm feeling the effects of eccentric upper/isometrix last night.

Purpleraindeer · 13/12/2015 07:33

Cross post jackster! Really nice to hear from you. Life sounds tough at the mo. FlowersWine.
Is turbofire a martial arts one? I did one of those for p90x3. Hilarious. I don't think I looked like the hard core fighters on the screen but I ached for 2 days which says something!

Jacksterbear · 13/12/2015 17:02

8kgs Purple?!! I'm impressed. My heaviest weights are 3s. Blush

I often think the same re diet/exercise. However most of the time I conclude that the amount of exercise I do allows me to eat more or less what I want and still look/weigh more or less ok, and that on balance I don't want to commit to a stricter regime. Has anyone else seen the precision nutrition article on the "cost" of achieving different body types... Interesting stuff, will try to link.

Turbofire is very fast-paced martial arts stuff, quite complicated choreography. I need to watch the "new to class" versions which go through the routines at a slower pace, but that seems like a faff when I want to just get stuck in!

This is the article I meant.

yumyumpoppycat · 14/12/2015 16:36

That article is really interesting Jackster. Sorry to hear that things reached a crisis point with your ds school. How is home schooling going?

Hi Purple and Boobz! Boobz I am relieved that you are taking time before getting back into exercise.

I am off the wagon, any exercise sessions between now and Jan are going to be miraculous but fingers crossed I will get some done.
Happy Christmas just incase I am awol for a while [santa] Wine

Jacksterbear · 17/12/2015 11:47

Thanks poppy. V early days yet on the HE front, so we shall see!

Have had a good exercise week: Turbofire "Fire 30" (just starting to get the hang of it on the 3rd go!); T25 Beta Ript Circuit, and 2x BodyCombat gym classes.

Anyone else keeping going through the festive season?

Nearly time for a new thread! Just in time for the new year and new improved fitness resolutions!

I'm still exercising away! Did the p90x3 martial arts work out again last night. Thought of you doing turbofire jackster. It's a bloody good shoulders and back workout isn't it? I was broken by the end. Am nearly at d day for my pull up challenge. I will report back on whether I've managed to do some/any unaided.
I thought the article you posted was really interesting. Firstly because it showed how hard it really is to get a body like the people in the vids and also because it made me realise that I'm probably not up for that. I really like the exercise bit and would definitely commit to exercising more, but I just can't be faffed with the diet and the massive amount of effort you need to put into it. I eat pretty healthily most of the time and that's fine for me. Smile

Jacksterbear · 19/12/2015 17:19

Ah well done on the martial arts workout Purple. I do love martial arts stuff! (I suspect I look a lot cooler in my head than I actually do, punching and kicking, though! Grin). In fact have been to gym today for a third Combat class this week.

And I completely agree with you re the diet/exercise/body-shape/cost. That article makes me feel pretty happy with where I am, and knowing that although I would ideally like to be a touch leaner and more toned, I realistically don't want it enough to make the necessary sacrifices.

Hellllo everyone Smile sorry for going totally awol, have fallen off the wagon in a fairly major way but just decided to go with it as I knew (hoped!) that I would get back round to exercising soon enough and here I am, aching ridiculously after doing Shred 1 yesterday. Hoping to do a Jillian versus Sean T challenge over the festive period to get me back into it. Off work now do should be easier to fit in. Reading all your recent posts has made me think I maybe need a new challenge too to keep my interest but I want to get my fitness levels back up first. The only thing I have been doing is Clubbercise with some friends which is hilarious - dark room, glow sticks and a load of middle aged women jumping around like loons! Oh and schnapps shots before the last class before Xmas Grin - not sure Jill and Sean would approve.

Anyway nice to be back and looking forward to chatting Thanks

Sarahlouboo · 21/12/2015 08:44

P.s. Really like that article Jacksterbear Smile

Jacksterbear · 21/12/2015 11:37

Great see see you back Sarah. Like the sound of a Shaun T vs JM exercise-off. Grin My 2 fave fitness gurus! I also quite like the sound of clubbercise (have seen people's FB pics of it before - looks fun!).

As I think this is post 999, I will take the liberty of starting a new thread, then come back here to post a link to the new one, all being well...
