Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 14:40

he he if a slow old plodder like me counts as cream that doesnt say much for the rest :o

Actually I suspect much of the drop off is injury related?

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 14:41

( scared 'em off with our dodgy adding up more like :o )

HalleLouja · 29/04/2015 14:47

Grin Grin Grin

PoppyShakespeare · 29/04/2015 14:50

THERE you all are!

1270.19 + 2 = 1272.19

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 14:59

Hi Poppy:) how are you doing?

PoppyShakespeare · 29/04/2015 15:14

am trying not to dwell on body recomposition (loss of muscle, replaced with fat Confused) and just look forward to getting well - endocrinologist says a year to 18 months - but am definitely feeling better thanks

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 15:24

pleased to hear that you're seeing an improvement!
Does the endocrinologist take much of a stance on exercising/running or happy to leave it to you to decide?

lastqueenofscotland · 29/04/2015 15:29

As a random q how many rest days do you guys take?

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 15:32

Lastq, do you mean rest days from running, or rest days from exercise?

If the former I take 3 per week atm
If the latter then none (my non running days are for lifting)

actiongirl1978 · 29/04/2015 15:35

Oh darnit anglaise and suzanne I missed your messages!

I went for a run - it was that or go to sleep, I felt exhausted after the school run. I did about 2.8miles with lots of stops for stitches, ITB stretches. My knees both still hurt but not in the place I had my patella/tendon injury, both are on the outside of the knee - in the soft bit between knee bone and the hamstring. I assume its ITB?

Anyway, they hurt, and the left knee feels a bit like it did on sunday - whoops. So no more running till the weekend.

On another note, we take delivery of a new puppy tomorrow so my free time may be taken up with toilet training Grin (it's our first pet, neither of us grew up with an animal, so I am a little scared...)

Poppy great news that you are going to start feeling better soon.

OP posts:
Anglaise1 · 29/04/2015 16:33

Poppy yes, don't worry about body fat, your health is the all important thing.
Action sorry your knees still hurt, I'm glad you are going to leave running until the weekend. Your poor knees need a rest! Oooh a puppy, what sort? Good luck with the house training...my border collie took 7 months, longer than average, but I think it was because I had him too young (8 weeks). He is nearly a year old now and runs regularly with me now.
Lastqueen I walk 6kms with the dog each day and run 5 days a week, so 2 days off from running. At least one of the runs is an 'easy' one, and 2 are training sessions with the club.
Suzanne Cinnammon yes, the drop in mileage is fewer runners. I think my average mileage is around 35 miles a week, regardless of what I'm training for.

Neeko · 29/04/2015 17:09

I'm a January start and I'm still here, but I only contribute between 6 and 10 miles a week so I don't think you'd really notice in the total if I wasn't GrinWink

holmessweetholmes · 29/04/2015 17:12

Ooh Actiongirl - what kind of puppy? How exciting! We got our puppy in November - our first dog as a family. He is wonderful! I can't wait until I can take him running - he's a German shorthaired pointer so will be a good runner, but he's too young yet, otherwise he could get joint damage. He's 7 months old but already weighs 26.1kg Shock.

orangeflutie · 29/04/2015 18:41

Neeko I notice you and fwiw I'm not running that many miles at the moment either!

I had a lovely 4 mile run today over lunchtime even though the rain got really heavy towards the end. It felt good and I definitely needed it.

Well done runforthehills on your epic run.

Glad you're starting to feel better Poppy.

stilllearnin · 29/04/2015 18:45

Hello everyone - no miles today from me. But wanted to ask cinnamon how is that mr's knee?? (hope I have the right person - terrible mix ups with people's names irl at the mo)

actiongirl1978 · 29/04/2015 19:01

I notice you too neeko!

We are getting a fox red lab - its a bit darker than a yellow one. He is 8 weeks old tomorrow, I intend to have him house trained in weeks Grin I mean, how hard can it be Shock

orange I love running in the rain, especially this mild spring rain, it makes the trees smell so nice.

OP posts:
familygermsareok · 29/04/2015 19:39

I also notice you Neeko, and all your miles are valuable! Smile

Glad you feeling better poppy, it is so disheartening to see hard earned fitness go down, but it will come back again.

lastqueen I don't have set rest days, I run whenever I can find the time, that usually translates to about 4 or 5 days a week, but they can all be consecutive some weeks. Not ideal, but seems to work ok. I don't do any other exercise though.

That's a great idea suzanne and whowould re keeping spreadsheets and seeing how it works out over the year.

4.2 intervals from me early this morning before work.
I think the last total was 1272.19 so 4 from flutie and 4.2 from me is
1287.39

Oh and 2.8 sore ones actiongirl Grin

1290.19

( trying to be very careful with maths now.....)

familygermsareok · 29/04/2015 19:43

Obviously not careful enough Blush.
1272.19+ 4+ 4.4+ 2.8= 1283.19

Had calculator too, but trying to multitask and make tea at same time, never good with maths!

actiongirl1978 · 29/04/2015 19:54

Thanks family I remembered I hadn't added my miles whilst trying to settle a very headstrong 5 yr old child.

OP posts:
familygermsareok · 29/04/2015 19:55

Aargh, typo now! I ran 4.2 not 4.4 but I have added in 4.2 so the bolded total should be right. I need my tea.........

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 20:23

it's all the decimal places, makes it easier to make a typo or mistake,

but cant leave off the 10ths and 100ths of a mile because well, we did run them and every little bit countsWink

stilllearnin · 29/04/2015 20:24

Can I just say that although I am piddly of miles I love this thread - I like adding (wrongly) to the total and I feel right at home even tho I don't contribute too much. I also love hearing about other people's pretty, massive, or totally bonkers runs. I will miss my run tomorrow but hope to make up for it soon

familygermsareok · 29/04/2015 20:30

Oh I don't know, stillearnin, you did do a huge 1000 miler for us, that's not piddly! Grin Grin Grin
I love hearing about other people's runs too, and I love the general run chat.
I have only been here since Feb but it is a really friendly, encouraging and welcoming thread, so thank you to everyone Smile

Neeko · 29/04/2015 20:43

Aww. Thanks guys. I wasn't looking for the confirmation but I'll take it! Grin

I also love this thread and all the chat. It makes me feel like a real runner. Look at us. We've gone all mushy! My neighbour has just started running and has been texting me her questions. Most of the answers I've got from here since January. Smile

I almost never run two days in a row. I usually run early in the morning before work and the kids are up and I cannot face getting up at 5.25 two mornings in a row!

Action. Good luck with the puppy and please give your knees a rest. You don't have to constantly live up to your user name you know!

Anglaise1 · 29/04/2015 20:47

Definitely, every mile counts, as do the decimals (a mile is a long way!) I'm lucky I have the time to give to my running addiction without having to get up very early every morning. Not everyone has that luxury. If you run, you are a runner. I love reading posts from people who have just started running, have done their first race, or just love what a buzz they get from the sport.
