Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

runtothehills - it's not the uphill bits that bother me (although I would find it hard). It was seeing them career downhill, falling over scree, getting up and carrying on with bloodied knees that freaked me out! I'd break my ankle in three seconds flat! I'm thinking you need to be light and wiry for fell running - I am neither, sadly!

Anglaise1 · 28/04/2015 20:54

runtothehills 5 mile recovery run??? Now take it easy for a few days! I love running uphill, but hate running down. I'm 5'8 and my 5 foot trail running friend is the opposite, slower running uphill but much faster downhill. So we end up together in the end.
8,75 miles from me with the club (warm up run and lots of 200 & 300m intervals)
No big race until the end of May but on Saturday there is a relay race around the local commune, 65kms, 8 people in a team. I'm the captain of our girls team (well girls, aged 30 - 52). Its good fun and of course there is an evening celebration/commiseration do after (I can't say piss up because French women really don't drink very much at all, food is always the most important thing!)

Found you! Just marking my place. Well done runtothehlls and actiongirl

Hoping for a lunchtime run tomorrow after a few days off Smile

Anglaise1 · 28/04/2015 21:31

Action it is in fact a canton, made up of 8 different communes (about 1500 inhabitants average, each with it's own bakery of course!) Food is so important in France, for every party it is food that is central rather than the booze. So everyone makes either a savory dish (quiche for instance, or salad composée), or dessert, we all bring beers or wine, the kids are all there too, it is very cool. We still want to win, of course!

LaughingM · 28/04/2015 22:03

runtothehills and action wow wow wow, very impressed by your achievements. Hope you are resting and recovering!

Went down to support a friend at the VLM on sunday. It's always such an amazing day. I was there early enough to see all the elites and was very happy to see Paula do her last one.

Lovely 3.9 from me this evening, including a couple of (brief but steep) hill sprints. Adding that and 2.4 tempo miles from saturday = 1437.23

karatekimmi · 28/04/2015 22:20

Marking my place

I went to see VLM on Sunday I thought it was quite warm I must have seen Jensen and Chris Evans but never notices them!! I was too busy cheering everyone else on!!

Entries for the ballot for VLM 2016 open on the 4th of May until Friday.

lastqueenofscotland · 28/04/2015 23:11

4.2 from me so that's
1241.42

AggressiveBunting · 29/04/2015 01:59

5 from me this morning to make 1246.42. I'm pondering my summer strategy- I reckon I can still force myself to do one longish run per week (16-20k) but it's so hot and humid now it's really not fun. I might just do more pace/ hill/ treadmill work and make sure I go to Crossfit 3 x a week (at the moment I think I go 3 x a week but in reality it averages out at 2)

EdithDickie · 29/04/2015 05:45

Just catching up a bit. WOW run, that sounds amazing and horrendous! Am in awe!

Still no running from me but foot is healing so will hopefully get out at the weekend.

actiongirl1978 · 29/04/2015 07:40

edith good to hear your foot is feeling a bit better.

I am going to try for a run today, maybe a couple of miles, just to see if anything hurts.

Action seriously, don't run yet, take a good week off completely. You could end up doing more harm than good. A week off won't hurt your fitness at all, it isn't until you take more than 10 days off that you start to lose VO max capability and 2 weeks before you lose muscle. Please!! I know it is hard, been there a couple of times, but you will end up stronger in the end.
A gentle 6.75 miles from Sam-the-border-collie and me.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 29/04/2015 09:24

Whoah loads to catch up on! Some amazing runs out there - I'm feeling quite humbled!

A 4.4 miles from me from last night - a nice crisp windless run in the dark to make 1250.82

Is it somebody's job to keep track of the monthly totals so we get a 2015 grand total at the end? What was 2014's?

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 09:29

Or maybe a very short run combined with some other type of cardio or some strength training Action?

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 09:59

?Whowould, I agree it would be good to have an overall total, I'd be happy to keep the info on a spreadsheet since I log all my runs on one anyway but going back and finding all the monthly totals from this year can be a bit tricky!
Perhaps a collaborative effort and then I'll keep it updated? ?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 29/04/2015 11:17

OK - I've gone back to the old threads and it's:

January - 2457.51
February - 2085.5
March - 2457.51

I don't mind keeping track this year as I can easily find my own posts to copy from.

Have we lost a few though? These seem to make April's total quite small in comparison?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 29/04/2015 11:18

Oh FFS

January 2457.51
February 2085.5
March 1674.3

Total for first quarter = 6217.31

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 13:28

crikey, we have dropped off considerably!
daily average from Jan to April is as follows:
jan 79.27
feb 74.48
march 55.81
April 43.13

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 13:28

I think it's mostly that we have fewer runners running?

cinnamongreyhound · 29/04/2015 13:35

Yes definitely less runners here, all the January resolution runners have gone Wink plus you don't gave my extensive miles WinkWink
Also depends on what people are training for.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/04/2015 13:37

2014 was a mixture of miles, Km and hours Whowouldfardelsbear

suzannecanthecan · 29/04/2015 14:28

we seem to have gone awry with the sums again Confused this is what I make it:

previous 1246.42
Anglaise 6.75
Whowould 4.4
me 9.62
1267.19
Of course I may be wrong, goodness knows what the real totals are Confused

I'm experimenting with a new schedule where I do two shorter runs back to back and then two longer runs with a non running day in between, which means I'll have 4 running days and 3 lifting days per week, instead of 3.5 of each.
Actually not that much of a change but hopefully the slightly shorter runs will help me get my speed up a wee bit

HalleLouja · 29/04/2015 14:30

3 miles of intervals with my club to add makes 1270.19.

HalleLouja · 29/04/2015 14:31

Suzanne I think we have just scared people off so only the cream has survived Wink
