Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
runtothehills · 13/06/2015 18:23

23 miles (+100m ascent) today, last LSR before race 2 weeks tomorrow. Wasn't as lovely weather as past few days but glad it was cooler, though at least no snow this time!

phleb sorry to hear about your injury, sounds like you're doing all you can to try and sort it. Difficult decision to make for you tomorrow.

lastqueen 4 years ago I would of though me mad, funny how you change your outlook Wink

527.7 + 23 = 550.7

holmessweetholmes · 13/06/2015 19:39

My first run in nearly 3 weeks at Parkrun this morning, having finally got over the stupid cold and cough which scuppered my HM. A bit slow, but not as bad as I expected!

Anglaise1 · 13/06/2015 19:39

.Whowould congrats on your first parkrun - it is funny hearing about frosts when we are in summer here (or supposed to be, anyway!)
Phlebas so sorry about your injury, when is your HM?
runforthehills how long is your race in a couple of weeks? How much ascent? LSR are easier when it is cooler. I hope it isn't too hot for your race.
18.5 miles from me today and yesterday
569.2

familygermsareok · 13/06/2015 20:01

phlebas is there a specific very sore point when you squeeze/press it or is it a general ache? Just thinking if there is a specific point it might be worth seeing doc early in case of stress fracture of one of the small bones in the feet. Not wanting to worry you, it's just that one of my friends had similar and left it for ages thinking it would just get better. She is fine now, but did need it treated properly.
Don't give up on your HM yet, is it Oct if I remember rightly? There is still plenty time Smile

Glad you enjoyed your first parkrun WhoWould Smile . Is it an 8am start in New Zealand? We are lucky here in Scotland, it is a lazy 9:30 start for us.

6.1 miles from me today, parkrun plus an extra 3 miles later with DS1 Smile

550.7 + 6.1 = 556.8

familygermsareok · 13/06/2015 20:06

Oops, very slow x post, I had left in middle of posting to get DS2 bike out for him!
So 569.2 + 6.1 from me + 3.1 from holmes = 578.4

cinnamongreyhound · 13/06/2015 21:29

Sorry you weren't feeling great Loueytb3, hope the Dr can shed some light Flowers

Well done on your parkrun Whowouldfardelsbear!

Sorry you've had such a run of bad luck phlebasconsidered. Good luck with your grading and your pace will improve. When is the hm?

4 miles from me with parkrun and commute to and from 531.7

Whowouldfardelsbear · 13/06/2015 22:24

I know - 8am! They even said in the newbie briefing that everywhere else starts after 9am (only NZ does 8am!)

I think it's because there's such a strong culture of sports here and so many kids do sports clubs etc that start between 9 and 10 on Saturdays. Every bloody thing has to be organised with that in mind - e.g. I volunteer for a local group and whenever we organise any kind of event we know it is pointless to arrange it before 11 on a Saturday.

Hope you better soon Louey

runtothehills · 14/06/2015 08:10

Sorry phlebas miss-read you post, though you were saying HM was today! Hope foot is a bit better today.

Anglaise race is 28 miles, apparently classed as an ultra as its over marathon distance, but only just, however it sounds good [big grin]. Ascent is around 700m, more of a trail race than a hill race.

Holmes good to see you're back running. Have you got your eye on another HM to aim for?

Neeko · 14/06/2015 08:55

Sorry to hear about the foot Pfleb. Are you taking ibuprofen?

Louey. Hope you feel better soon.

Congrats on your first park run. I registered ages ago but DH works most Saturday mornings so I've not yet had the chance to go. I had to get up at 6am yesterday to run before he left for work. It was a lovely run though and Saturday morning felt more relaxing because I managed to get all my usual chores finished much earlier. Smile

4 from me yesterday morning.
535.7

Neeko · 14/06/2015 08:57

Oh dear. I see I'm missing out names and completely changing the spelling of others! Blush Sorry.

holmessweetholmes · 14/06/2015 09:29

I don't know, runtothehills. I'm feeling a bit as though a HM is not meant to be. That's the third time I've entered for one and not made it to the starting line!

familygermsareok · 14/06/2015 09:33

You are a healthy lot in NZ Whowould Grin
I worked there for a year and remember the working day as being 8-4, it took a bit of getting used to the earlier start but it was lovely to finish at 4 and everyone had lots of sports they went off to. Fabulous country, I have very fond memories Smile.

I take back everything I said previously about gels being disgusting. I have found one that is truly delicious!
I am working on increasing my LSRs and planned a 14 miler early this morning but thought I might find that a bit far on empty so took a gel at mile 9. It was amazingly yummy, Torq Apple Crumble, and it really did taste like apple crumble Smile
I cut the run a bit short in the end as the final segment was cross country and it was rainy and would have been very wet and boggy underfoot, so I stayed on the road. Not sure if I actually needed the gel, but it was certainly tasty Wink
So 12.12 early miles in the rain, I feel set up for the day now Smile

535.7 + 12.12 = 547.82

emummy · 14/06/2015 10:03

Glad you enjoyed your gel family! I use clif shot blocks, they're nice. Lovely 6.6 mile run this morning through the countryside in the sunshine, felt great, 554.42

lastqueenofscotland · 14/06/2015 11:06

Run to the hills your runs always impress me!

12.2 from me this morning. Pretty happy with it!

566.62

phlebasconsidered · 14/06/2015 11:11

Thanks for all the advice folks. I iced and elevated last night and it was better but after just pottering this morning it's back. I've also noticed a hard lump underneath the 4th and 5th toes. I'm going to bandage it and go for the grading anyway, but then i'm off to the doctors on Monday, I think, just in case it is a fracture. I have stopped myself from googling it as too much horrid stuff comes up! My BIL tells me you are a REAL runner once you have had an injury. HM is in October, so hopefully....

Super impressed at everyones distances, especially in this rain / heat!

Tiredemma · 14/06/2015 12:43

ill add my arduous 10k from this morning if you dont mind.

bloody hills

572.82

Anglaise1 · 14/06/2015 13:45

9.4 miles from me this morning, nice longish slow run with a club friend early this morning. Didn't go with the club because it takes all morning to do the session and I've got Too Many Things to Do.
582,22

Blatherskite · 14/06/2015 14:50

A slightly long 10k for me this morning as I did a couple of run backs to collect friends. 6.3 miles in all

588.5

phlebasconsidered · 14/06/2015 17:45

Well, I graded anyway (hopefully, find out tommorrow) and then popped for an x-ray. I have stress fractures and tendon swelling. So no running for me for a bit! Doctor was hazy about recovery time and said to take it slow. Anyone had a stress fracture and can tell me a bit more about it? I was meant to be doing the Huntingdon 10K next Sunday, I take it that's a no?

Miserable about it.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/06/2015 19:37

Oh no phlebasconsidered! No experience of stress fractures I'm afraid hope someone else can help.

So wanted to run today but didn't feel I could without risking falling out with dh (could be totally wrong but didn't ask in case!). Feeling very tired, unappreciated and generally stressed today so a run would have helped! At my mums for dinner tomorrow so I can't run until Tuesday now. Lots of fab running from everyone else today though!

runtothehills · 14/06/2015 19:44

Definite NO to 10k phlebas, you need more advice than what your doctor has given you. Stay off running, you can do other non impact activities (Cycling, swimming etc). Use anti-infamatories, ice after being on feet all day, and get a referral to a physio. By the time you get an appointment (if NHS, say 2-3 weeks) you may be ready to look at getting back to some running (depends on severity of damage) and they can advise the best programme for doing so! It can take only 6-8 weeks but do it wrong and it can be a lot longer. Sad sorry not probably what you want to hear Flowers

Deliaskis · 14/06/2015 20:56

Hi all, been away for a week sans WiFi Shock, so just catching up. Great to read about good runs and sorry to hear about injuries.

So I'd did 4.2+ 2.3 last week, and 5.1 today, which adds up to 11.6, added to 588.5 is 600.1 I think?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/06/2015 21:02

Gosh this thread move faster than I do!

Flowers for you phlebas, lots of good advice from runtothehills - make sure you take it! I had a suspected stress fracture last year, nothing showed up on Xray so I just waited until the pain stopped, and gently started running again. I hope the grading went well.

Flowers and a ((())) for you cinnamon super-Mum and super-runner.

I'm not going to try to go any further back and name check as I am bound to miss someone.

We have been away for the weekend. DS2 had sports day and won both his races , but he is a sprinter, not a distance runner Smile. I took running gear with me but had no chance to run. I also ate and drank more than usual so in penance I did 10.25 miles when I got home.

598.75

Neeko · 15/06/2015 07:30

598.75 +3.5= 602.25

Phleb- sorry to hear about the foot. Hope it heals quickly.

Cinnamon - hope you are feeling better today.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/06/2015 08:13
