Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/04/2015 18:07

Of course not - otherwise I would be weird and obsessive as well Grin

phlebasconsidered · 30/04/2015 18:33

A piddly 2.5 from me before I literally could not breathe because of the oilseed rape pollen. 1520.78

Does anyone else suffer from this? I can't get away from it, I live in the Fens! I take a one a day tablet and it does naff all. i've even taken puffer before going out but it still really affects me. I am cross as my second mile tonight was my fastest ever, and then I had to stop! I can't keep doing crap runs all Summer, i'm meant to be building up my distance!

actiongirl1978 · 30/04/2015 18:47

Phlebas, I have heard it recommended to take two of those a day, not one. I take fexofenadine which is on prescription and I start taking it in February every year to build up a base. I take one a day. I also squirt flixonase up my nose every evening. We are in the middle of rapeseed fields and I used to live near Huntingdon so that was near a lot of rape, but I don't think it affects me, I am more birch pollen. However I do seem to have my hayfaever under control using the above.

Try seeing if you can get something stronger on prescription or change whichever high st tablets you take to another type? They are not all the same I don't think.

Hope that helps!

How infuriating PhlebasAngry
I wish I could suggest something but I know nothing about hayfever

Anglaise1 · 30/04/2015 19:06

Suzanne no you aren't weird or obsessive, I just hate admin.
Phlebas I used to live in S Cambs and had the same problem with being suffocated by oil seed rape in April/May, but it was harvested at the end of May so it wasn't an all summer long inconvenience. Is rape grown all summer long in the fens?

HalleLouja · 30/04/2015 19:08

Louey am considering a marathon. Well by that I mean I am going in the VLM ballot and mainly hoping I don't get in. Glad to hear you are still running.

Suzanne the guy videoed us running and then showed us how atheletes run (I can't explain exactly how but when he sends some videoes I will share). We did some drills to help us get the technique and then he filmed us at the end. There was a difference. One guy completely got it. It was amazing. I am definitely having more sessions.

HalleLouja · 30/04/2015 19:10

Louey ps I can't believe out babies are going to school. I am going to be quite sad when DD goes.

suzannecanthecan · 30/04/2015 19:24

oh, right Anglaise, I find graphs and spreadsheets very relaxing:o

that sounds very interesting Halle although I think I'd come out of it feeling embarrassed and uncoordinated.

I've read some stuff which says people just naturally find their own most efficient running style, and I suppose the logical conclusion to that is that the elites are elite because they have a physical and physiological make up which lends itself to very efficient and effective running technique.

Then again I've read plenty of stuff to the contraryConfused
it's all very confusing!
I shall look forward to seeing the video's

cinnamongreyhound · 30/04/2015 20:03

Hi Loueytb3!

So....... I had a lovely walk with the dogs felt good and when I got back ds3 was asleep so I decided to do a lap of parkrun. Total of 1.75miles to add from me and other than my boobs being a bit uncomfortable I felt fine Shock

1522.53

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/04/2015 21:21

High fives cinnamon Grin Well done!

5.12 early evening miles from me. Lots of lovely spring flowers and bird song to occupy my eyes and ears. Only dodgy bit was coming across 4 young people who were smoking weed, and thought I was the funniest thing they had ever seen. One of the girls started running after me while the others fell about laughing but she couldn't keep up. It would have been a bit further, but DH was out for a walk and we met up (unplanned) about quarter of a mile from home so I walked the last bit with him.

1527.65

Neeko · 30/04/2015 21:34

Well done Cinnamon. Take it easy though supermum!

Ohone- sounds like you dealt with the teenagers well. Must have been quite intimidating though.

Hi Louey! I remember you from wat back too Smile How's the DC?

LaughingM · 30/04/2015 21:36

Wow well done cinnamon! I can't decide if I think you are bonkers or inspirational Grin.

Phlebas that sounds tough. We were talking about hay fever at work today, and quite a few people swear by eating local honey - something about building up an immunity to the pollen? Bit of an old wives tale but I quite like one of those!

2 miles of intervals from me this evening. 1529.65

cinnamongreyhound · 30/04/2015 21:59

I don't think the honey thing is an old wives tale LaughingM, has to be within a couple of miles I think. My friend is in search of new keeper to try it for her horse! And I would say I'm neither but edge towards bonkers Wink

suzannecanthecan · 30/04/2015 22:11

oh yes local honey, def worth a try!

lastqueenofscotland · 30/04/2015 22:38

rest day was probably a good thing (it pains me to admit it) did 5k in a good pace and felt very easy...

attempting 6 miles on saturday for the first time in over a year (injuries etc), we'll see!

stilllearnin · 30/04/2015 22:41

My ds took bee pollen - you can get it from the Internet. It looks like yellow granules and you just eat a spoonful or put it in some food. He cannot tolerate anti histamines well but the pollen worked like magic. Not much rape round here tho so I don't know if it'll work for you.

AggressiveBunting · 01/05/2015 03:55

New month!!!

Kicking it off with 10.6 miles of trails. Fairly easy pace as hot and humid (and maybe a tad hungover- public holiday here today) but I challenged myself to run all the unstepped hills and succeeded in that, so a good start to May. Sweated off 2kg as well- I was dripping.

Suzanne I track my mileage too. I find it helps me know how much I really do, rather than what I like to think i do (i.e. considerably more). I use Movescount (via Suunto) for my outside runs and races as that gives me lots of nice graphs to look at, but also have a spreadsheet in which I add treadmill, Crossfit commutes etc. My average mileage YTD is 50km per week, which I'm happy with given a week of major illness and 3 weeks either on hols or aways with work.

Also, slight boast if I can. I was name checked in Asia Trail magazine for my 3rd place in the 17k a few weekends ago. Does this make me a sleb?

Runrunrun1 · 01/05/2015 09:29

Star to aggressive, you are definitely a sleb! And grrrrrrrr to the teenagers ohone! It sounds like you did really well.

Can I ask a question please about techy things? It's my birthday later this month, and I'm thinking of whether it's worth getting a garmin? I'm not a serious runner though really, but I would like to increase my speed and try and run for longer and I am interested in what I'm doing! Work are changing our phones soon so I'll have an iPhone and I remember cinnamon suggesting some apps, so would they do what I need? I had a look at garmins and there seem to be lots to choose from. If I was going to get one, would the most basic one be best? Thank you!

stilllearnin · 01/05/2015 09:30

aggressive boasting is allowed on this thread! Well done - that's fantastic.
I have just come back from 5.2 mile around the industrial estate near ds' school. A bit grim but gets it done.

I think I can do this maths. drum roll....

15.8

5madthings how's things with you this week? How is ds?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 01/05/2015 10:17

1534.65 for April.

I am going to do this each month so I can easily find my own posts as they come up in a dog sick colour. (though they come up in a pretty purple on my phone). Then at the end of the year I can tot them all up.

stupid teenagers ohone

excellent maths stillearnin Go to the top of the class Star

holmessweetholmes · 01/05/2015 10:18

A measly 1.3 for me, making it 17.1 . In my defence, it was intervals (1 min running almost as fast as I could, then 30 seconds walk). My lungs felt like they were ready to explode by the end of it.

Does anyone have any wise words about interval training? I kind of make it up as I go along Blush. I do 10 mins brisk walk before I start, then do about 10-12 mins of short intervals as above, then 10 mins walk home. (I didn't invlude the 20 mins walking in my mileage obvs!) I alternate this with hills as one of my 3 runs a week. Is this a sensible way to do intervals?

Runrunrun1 · 01/05/2015 10:48

My first go at running intervals (using c25k+ 'speed'), it was good, but they really get you out of breath don't they?! Means only 1.7 to add from me today, so 18.8.

Would be interested to see comments re intervals as holmes asked about. And linking it in to my tech question, can you set garmins to tell you when to run fast and slow down for intervals?

holmessweetholmes · 01/05/2015 10:53

Runrunrun1 - I used my Garmin for my intervals today. It has a 'run/walk' setting, where it lets you set how long you want to run and walk. It only seems to allow two though - I sometimes used to do sprint, walk, jog intervals and I don't think my Garmin will do that.

holmessweetholmes · 01/05/2015 11:08

Oh and speaking of Garmins, is anyone else on that MN group on Garmin Connect? There are quite a few people on there, but not with their MN names, so I wouldn't know if any of you were among them!

If anyone's interested, the group is called Team MN Connection and my username is Goldberry .
