Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/06/2015 20:54

Evening all, some great running this weekend Smile

3.1 parkrun miles + 10.25 Sunday miles take us to 359.34

I couldn't resist googling and tis the Mersey Tunnel Shock

Neeko · 08/06/2015 07:17

359.34 +3.75 is 363.09

Beautiful morning for a run here Smile.

HalleLouja · 08/06/2015 09:29

6.2 miles of Whipsnade 10k. Makes 369.29 total. A new 10k pb and over 6 minutes faster than last year.

No run today. Thought might be able to go to my hiit class.

AnnPerkins · 08/06/2015 09:47

Think there's been a calculation error since yesterday. We were on 255.99 and have gone up to 369.29.

Should be 255.99 + 13.35 (OhOne) + 3.75 (Neeko) + 6.2 (HalleLouja) = 279.29

My new running shoes hurt Sad. I've woken up today with really sore inside right ankle. This is the same pain that eventually put paid to my running for months while I had treatment for shin splints.

I daren't wear them again, can I return them to Up and Running? Some googling says that Sweatshop has a 30 day guarantee but I can't see the same for Up&R. I could have gone to either shop yesterday, really regretting making the wrong choice Sad

What do you do if you can't return them?

cinnamongreyhound · 08/06/2015 10:56

I agree with your maths AnnPerkins, if you had your gait analysed and they've said they're the right shoes for you they should exchange them for you. If they don't I guess you can sell them either on eBay or a fb selling page?

AnnPerkins · 08/06/2015 11:04

Thanks cinnamon. I've emailed them so fingers crossed.

Not sure what else they can offer though, they only offered two different shoes and they felt the same when I tried them on, so I went for the slightly less expensive ones!

Neeko · 08/06/2015 11:56

Ann- was that your first run in them? Did you wear them walking about first? When I got my latest shoes I was told that was important for breaking them in but others may not agree.

stilllearnin · 08/06/2015 13:08

2.5 to add today. Need to practising getting up early in this weather I think.

281.79

stilllearnin · 08/06/2015 13:11

Sorry for not chatting. Good luck to Ann on the shoes and well done Halle. What progress!

phlebasconsidered · 08/06/2015 16:34

7.5 from me this morning, i've had a week off due to illness and I can safely say I feel fat and slow. It was THE slowest 7 miles ever but it's done. I should have been running 8.5 but I just wasn't feeling it.

289.29

Will catch up on everyones fabness and runs later: i'm off to Tang Soo Do to fling my aching body around some more.

Anglaise1 · 08/06/2015 17:13

Cinnamon what a lovely present from your canicross.
Halle 6 minutes off your pb Shock that's amazing progress, you must be thrilled!
Ann Perkins I never thought you it was possible to exchange running shoes once you've run in them, but good luck it's possible in the UK, it certainly isn't here but then after sales service in France is 10 years behind that of the UK
Phlebas hope you recover fully soon
13.1 miles from Sam-the-border-collie and me this morning. Nice easy pace.
302.39

PoppyShakespeare · 08/06/2015 19:10

aww baby cinnamon! I keep meaning to pester you for info on Cani cross in the forest cinnamon had a lovely walk round kings forest this pm and it reminded me - can't seem to find a local club but Thetford ish would be ok?

I have 2.somethimg to add from this morning

304.39

lastqueenofscotland · 08/06/2015 19:36

Hi all!!
5.63 miles in 48 mins tonight! Chuffed with it and first and last mile were a bit slow so nice to know there is room for more improvement

lastqueenofscotland · 08/06/2015 20:24

Oh and the maths
310.02 I think!

AggressiveBunting · 08/06/2015 21:07

Another 5.2 from me to make 315.2. Only time for shortish runs as on holiday with the DC, so trying to push the pace a little bit and not just let myself cruise along. Managed to average 4.5min km, so happy with that. Head wind not as bad today so focused on a reverse split. It's funny (albeit nice) being able to run on flat ground and actually plan a set pace.

Got some new trail shoes- Altras- which are like Hokas but with a wider toe box. Haven't had a chance to test them off road yet.

Also, for my bday I got Lizzy Hawker's book- has totally made me want to do the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc- Anglaise I imagine you might know some people who have done it? I know you need to get points for it, but many of the HK races do give those so if I planned my race season carefully I could probably get enough. I'm thinking about targeting 2018 though as need to build up through my distances. Its 168km and my furthest race is currently 50km, although I'm scheduled for a 70k and a 100k in 2015/16.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/06/2015 21:18

If you pm me your real name PoppyShakespere and you're on fb I can add you to the group. It's £10 a year membership and your dog needs a proper harness. We all have belts and lines but hey are not a requirement just much better for you. We run at west stow, North stow, ickworth, santon downham and Brandon.

PoppyShakespeare · 08/06/2015 21:36

Great I've PM'd you. Thank you! I think we have each other's real names on Garmin connect but hopefully everything you need in PM. Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/06/2015 22:04

Oops sorry for the maths error Blush

AnnPerkins · 09/06/2015 09:44

Neeko I wore my new shoes all afternoon before running but not long enough to 'run them in' I suppose. But the pain is from what I think may be a lack of support from the shoe, rather than stiffness or anything that could be worn in.

Anyway, I did some foam rollering and icing last night and the pain has gone today. I may try 20 gentle minutes in my old shoes tonight to see how it feels followed by more rollering and icing.

No reply from Up & Running yet. I can understand why they wouldn't be prepared to take them back, was just hoping they had the same policy as Sweatshop. £100 is a lot to spend on something that you can't return. Ebay is a good idea though cinnamon.

Just googled cani cross - looks fun! And Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - looks phenomenal!

emummy · 09/06/2015 10:50

Fartlek session this morning, good fun but roasting hot! Lost about a kilo in sweat! Summer has come to Aberdeenshire, happy days.

318.5

runtothehills · 09/06/2015 13:01

emummy summer has definitely come to Aberdeenshire think I added to the sweat loss total. 9 lovely sunny (and sweaty) miles up in the hills, was planning intervals but gave in to just enjoying the scenery, did finish the last 4 miles with some up tempo running though.

Also have a 4 and a 5 mile run from the weekend to add which involved a lot of resistance gale force headwind training Wink

Aggressive UTMB is an amazing looking race, but fiercely contended and difficult to get into, though I would imagine your races would give you some good points. There's a load of other races in the area that you can do which offer similar terrain/distance but aren't so high profile. I've run a bit in the alps, though no races, and the altitude adds an interesting new dimension, a lot of them also use poles for the fast ascents which I found interesting compared to hill racing back in the UK.

9+4+5+318.5=336.5

emummy · 09/06/2015 13:28

runtothehills have you ever done the Ballater 10mile race? Am vaguely tempted but not sure!

runtothehills · 09/06/2015 14:26

No not done it. Its run by my club and from what they say it's mainly a road race with a section of track and relatively flat. I know a few who have done it and they really like it, only about 150-200 runners so quiet for a road race. Think you should go for it Grin you never know I may be marshalling so can cheer you on Wink

Loueytb3 · 09/06/2015 16:22

Neeko very well done! Now you need a new goal - marathon? Wink

HalleLouja - I had a quick peek at your time for whipsnade, that's a fantastic 10k time. 6 mins improvement in a year is loads at that distance.

cinnamon I hadn't realised you had posted a photo of the present until I logged in on my computer (can't see it on the app). What a fantastic present! Cute baby too Smile

ann I hope you get a response from the shop. Really annoying when that happens. I gave up on Asics because they always gave me blisters under the arches. Its really difficult sometimes to find the right shoes. God help me if they ever discontinue my current ones...

Lots of running from me since I last posted, but busy weekend with DS3's birthday party so haven't had a lot of time to post. At the moment, I am loving the running, but my long runs need to be slower otherwise I am going to burn out before I get to the marathon.

10+5.3+5+7.5 = 27.8 miles Grin

364.3

Anglaise1 · 09/06/2015 16:25

Aggressive my running friend Laurence who I did the Rome marathon with has done the Mont Blanc CCC before and is doing the UMMB in August 2015. A little preparation training for the Diagonale des Fous in the Reunion islands that she is doing 2 months later in October 2015 Shock. Runforthehills is right, even if you do have the requisite points it is extremely hard to get into. You need to get your points in 3 or fewer races too, luckily Laurence did 2 big ultras last year so she had no problem with the 9 points.
