Hi everyone, new thread started! Grin

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 04/06/2015 23:25

Yay Neeko! Good going.

PoppyShakespeare · 05/06/2015 08:33

I don't even know where to start with this mad article so am putting it here for anyone interested (someone sent it to me)

why women shouldn't run

HalleLouja · 05/06/2015 08:53

2.7 slow tapering miles makes 166.31.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 05/06/2015 10:23

Urgh that article poppy

It was so nasty in its tone I couldn't even read it all. Anyway, I don't run to lose weight, I run to get fit and reduce my bad cholesterol! I also run because I bloody well love it!

PoppyShakespeare · 05/06/2015 10:36

I know! It's horrible! I don't know why my friend sent it to me. I'm not running much these days, I'm not fat by any objective measure and I have an overactive not underactive thyroid. Hmm

Neeko · 05/06/2015 11:24

Just read that article. The tone is awful Hmm. Sometimes it feels like no matter what you are doing someone will come along to tell you you are doing wrong!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 05/06/2015 13:14

A fantastic feeling but incredibly HOT 6.5 miles from me today. I'd only planned 7km but kept going and ended up doing 10.5km.

I'm afraid to click that article link Hmm

166.31 + 6.5 = 172.81 (?)

AggressiveBunting · 05/06/2015 17:30

He sounds like a dick and there are so many of these bloggers now who think they just morphed into a PhD because they downloaded a study from pubmed that they don't really understand. I really like James Fell ( body for wife) because he's all about the 80/20 approach and is not a complete body building/ clean eating fascist. I have to say the online lifting community doesn't do much to encourage people to take it up which is weird cos in real life they're usually nice people, if a little earnest.

Anglaise1 · 05/06/2015 20:08

I like 80:20, it's a great rule for running training (80% long and slow, 20% fast and furious) and eating...life in general really.
Am going to read the article now, skimmed it earlier and yes, what rubbish.
9.38 miles to add from today
182.19 if my maths isn't completely to pot.

familygermsareok · 05/06/2015 21:21

Well done on your first 10k Neeko and your extra long run SqueezyCheeseWeasel Smile

Angry after reading that article. Utterly misogynistic in tone and total garbage! Grrrr.

Lovely unexpected 4.7 from me when DS1 came home from school and decided he would like to go for a run with me. DS2 was away at his basketball so off we went, a bit further than planned but we were chatting away the whole time Smile
So DH came home to a very late tea but he is an understanding soul and knows that running comes first Wink

182.19 + 4.7 = 186.89

Neeko · 05/06/2015 21:44

What a lovely DH you have family germs. Smile

lastqueenofscotland · 06/06/2015 10:58

I'm going to sit and read that article in a bit
2.7 from me in the warm.
189.59 I think

emummy · 06/06/2015 13:25

3.1 from me, Colour me rad Aberdeen! Usual fabulous weather I.e. Cold and windy but at least it was dry! We had a great time.

192.69

familygermsareok · 06/06/2015 13:35

Thank you Neeko, he is not bad most of the time! Wink

3.1 parkrun miles from me today. I was one of the Pacers but failed miserably to stick to my allotted time Sad. It is a hilly course so we are given variable paces for each km but I found it quite difficult to stick to, kept checking my Garmin pace and seemed to be going too fast at first so I slowed down to compensate but obviously by too much as I ended up coming in a whole 44s slower than target. I am just hoping no one was relying on me and thinking they had got a PB only to be disappointed Blush.
It is the first time I have tried to pace, I would quite like to try again but not sure I dare ask Blush

189.59 + 3.1 = 192.69

familygermsareok · 06/06/2015 13:38

Oops, x post with emummy. That sounds fab emummy Smile
192.69 + 3.1= 195.79

Dottymum2 · 06/06/2015 13:51

A lovely warm 9 from me yesterday to make it 204.79. Longest ever run, felt good but hard as hilly in places.

Anglaise1 · 06/06/2015 15:37

Family I'ce never paced but am in awe of those who do (or rather those who do it well!) It is very difficult. I remember one HM I did where the 1H 50 pacer was level with me and the 1H 40 pacer for several kilometers at the start of the race. I felt really sorry for everyone following him as they started the race much too quickly!
Congrats to Dotty and Neeko on your longest ever runs.
emummy your parkrun sounds fun!
I had some time before finishing the gite cleaning and guests arriving so did a 10 mile run with DS (age 8) on his bike and The Dog. Amazingly no-one tripped anyone else up and we all had a lovely time on the shady disused railway track.
214.79

orangeflutie · 06/06/2015 16:11

Still no outside running from me. Last Sunday I ran for about 20 mins on treadmill after using the exercise bike and then limped about later that day and on MondayHmm I think the thigh pain is going to take a while to go away.

I've just read the anti running article. Interesting but a bit one sided nothing is mentioned about the effects of running and cardio on the brain. the increased oxygen improving thought processes and how good running makes you feel. I had to laugh about running making you fat too, now that I'm not running I will obviously be skeletal in no timeGrin

cinnamongreyhound · 06/06/2015 17:09

Well done on the 10k Neeko and your 9 miles Dottymum2

Don't think I'll read it based on everyone's response, there's enough in the world to make me angry as it is!!!! Although I am intrigued how running makes you fat!

Well done for giving it a go fanilygermsareok I wouldn't even attempt to pace!

Lovely sunny parkrun from me and best time for a long time 28:10 Smile

218.79

AggressiveBunting · 06/06/2015 20:24

5.2 from me makes 224. First run back in the UK. Last week didn't really happen. Went along the seafront at Poole which was gorgeous but major headwind on return leg.

Re pacing, I can only do it when way within my capabilities so I just run at the set pace all the way through. However I don't think that's good pacing. Ideally you should vary your pace according to whether it's flat/ hilly etc. but finish close to the estimated time.

familygermsareok · 07/06/2015 15:33

Aww, that is really gorgeous cinnamon. What a lovely present. And babycinnamon looks so cute, I'm getting all soppy now remembering how I used to love the way my babies heads smelled Smile

Anglaise I certainly found pacing a lot harder than I'd anticipated, and I have a new found respect for those who do it right. It is reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who has got it wrong though!

Welcome BangingTheDrums.

What is the tunnel 10k Sparklepup ? I'm imagining running through a dark railway tunnel or something similar.

13.11 from me early this morning, lovely sunny day, not a soul around. For once the wind was behind me on the way back home which made a nice change Smile
238.4 + 13.11 = 251.51

AnnPerkins · 07/06/2015 20:37

Hi BangingTheDrums.

4.48 miles this evening. It was tough again in the heat but a bit faster than my last one so I'm happy. I wore my new running shoes and no rubbing, they felt lighter than my old ones too.

I too am intrigued by a Tunnel 10k. Did you run under the sea to France Sparklepup?
