Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Thanks and hi. It took til Saturday to arrive. Angry so hopefully i can unwrap it tonight. Will report back.

PeaceOfWildThings · 09/06/2015 09:27

Have been keeping up the 10 minute workouts. Yesterday I pulled a muscle in my foot (doing star jumps, I think) so it was just a bit of upper body workout with weights for me today, and will bedigging the orthotics out to use until the foot feels better.

AmazonGrace · 10/06/2015 07:01

Warm up, Ultimate legs done and dusted. Should have done another one but dp got up so I left it. As much as he's encouraging I love being completely on my own when excersising!

Ouch Peace, I remember hurting the ball of my foot when I attempted the shred DVD. Bought better trainers with extra support for that area.

velmadinkly · 11/06/2015 09:54

I didn't exercise on Tuesday I felt to blah, my TOTM arrived in the evening.

I swam yesterday and will be swimming again today. I'll either Davina or swim tomorrow, but I think the swimming will win because apparently it's going to be horrible and muggy tomorrow here in the Midlands and I don't fancy getting all sweaty in those type of conditions. I will just have to see what time I wake up.

Ouch peace I hope your aren't hobbling around too much.
amazon you're doing great. Don't compare yourself against anybody. Remember, be the best you!
kitty have you done it yet?

PeaceOfWildThings · 12/06/2015 08:49

Took 2 days off to rest my foot (and bevause I just couldn't fit it in) and really noticed my mood takeva nosedive.

Back at it with a short core workout today.

cherrytree63 · 13/06/2015 12:10

I'm still here, still Davina'ing several times a week. Tried to take up jogging but hurts my legs for some reason, so power walking a few times a week instead.
Sorry if someone has already explained this but in answer to PP's question, HIIT stands for high intensity interval training.
I've lost two stones in total, 17lbs of which was once I'd started the 7 minute workouts and gave up sugar and processed food. I've gone from a size 14/16 depending on clothes cut/type to a loose size 12.

I feel GOOD!! Grin

velmadinkly · 15/06/2015 07:29

Bloody hell cherry well done! I wish my eating was so in control.

Last week I ended up swimming on Wednesday and Thursday and I've done no exercise since. My period was horrid.

I have Davina'd this morning with warm up, Fat burner, U fat burner, abs and some stretch. Just under 4 weeks until my holiday and now that TOTM has tailed off I am going to try and get a grip on my eating to get a few pounds off before the holiday.

PeaceOfWildThings · 15/06/2015 08:28

Well done Cherry!

Between starting the fitness workouts on 1st March and Friday, I have lost 14 pounds/1 stone! I now have a healthy BMI and am feeling much more healthy.

Since Friday DH has been home, I haven't done the workouts and I've put on a pound! I know, one pound means nothing, but I put weight on whenever he's home. If I do workouts I can keep from putting as much weight on (but it's not always easy to be that confident. He asks to video me ...and join in.) It's also the food we eat, so I've asked him to show more interest in what is healthy for him, and stop behaving like Homer Simpson over fatty and sugary foods.

Anyway, did a 25 minute full body taballa/pilates/yoga session today and feeling good. :D (my foot has recovered much more quickly too, even without orthotics, so it's more than just weight. I'm getting fitter.)

velmadinkly · 17/06/2015 07:09

Warm up, UF Burner, boxfit, UAbs and stretch all done. I think I am going to have to do the stretch section twice a day because my thighs and hamstrings are all tight from sitting down doing my marking. Thankfully, I've only got 5 more large pieces to do and that will be done today, although I think the tightest will remain for a few days.

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 18/06/2015 12:20

I have Grabbed My Tuna. Just got the DVD and have done the warm up, the fat burner and tone and sculpt. I cannot do press ups..... Hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to do press ups

Thanks for the inspiration Flowers

velmadinkly · 18/06/2015 19:13

Swimming for me today. I'm not sure what I will do tomorrow, it depends on what time I wake up as to whether it is swimming or davina.

under you will soon be able to do press ups. I could only do 1 or 2 at the very most when the thread first started I can now easily do 10 -12.

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 19/06/2015 22:17

Thanks for the confidence boost velma I'm pretty sure I have spaghetti masquerading as arms!

Today I've done the warm up and fat burner and then abs. I did the fat burner again in an effort to relieve some of the pain in my legs and bum from yesterday: how can 7 minutes do so much damage?! I mean, it's good damage because clearly it's worked me, but ouch ouch ouch. Still, am pleased I've done two days in a row. This is good for me!!

velmadinkly · 21/06/2015 18:34

Well done under I've not done any exercise since Thursday, but I'll be back on it tomorrow.

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 21/06/2015 20:49

Third attempt at post.... bloody phone. I've slacked off today, but am going to reframe this as a rest day. yesterday did the warm up and the toning one, and found press ups a teeny weeny discernible via microscope bit easier. It is ok to just go down as far as you can? Isn't it? Even if it REALLY hurts and everything's shaking, a few centimetres is ok?? Keeping my body in a straight line/bum down is an absolute revelation to me. I always knew I couldn't do press ups, but I didn't realise quite how wrong I was trying to do them!!

Bum and legs have been hurting less today and I've hardly done any swearing under my breath whilst climbing stairs/going to the loo, so I'm considering that progress. Still not sure I want to engage in the legs workout if just doing the fat burner crippled me for days, but maybe next week...

cherrytree63 · 22/06/2015 11:42

I've lapsed for a week, but yesterday did warm up, fat burner, and some of ultimate fat burner before I just couldn't do any more. I'd forgotten to use my inhaler though so think that had something to do with it too.
Really tired today as didn't sleep well last night so an easy day for me today.

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 22/06/2015 20:19

Hope you're feeling a bit better cherry.

I've channeled a horrible day into the warm up, fat burner and the legs workout. Feel really chuffed with myself because usually I'd just drink half a bottle of wine and eat my body weight in crisps as a response to stress! Hope I can walk tomorrow - that last set of lunges was very very tough. I was making giving birth noises along with Davina... My youngest DD joined in for a bit of it and didn't look in the slightest bit bothered by the exertion!!

Am on my phone so can't name check everyone but hope you're all ok.

Ebb · 23/06/2015 19:51

Hello! Can I join as a late comer? I've done 2 weeks of the 30 day shred with good results but it was killing my knees so I've had a few rest days and finally taken the cellophane off my 7 minute fit dvd. I did the warm up, fat burner, abs, legs and stretches and found it less exhausting that the 30 day shred but I feel my muscles in a good way now especially my inner thighs. Those dipping squats are a bit of a killer. Grin Looking forward to doing more tomorrow.

velmadinkly · 25/06/2015 11:23

Hello All (welcome ebb)

Not posted in a while, but I have swam Tuesday and Wednesday and I have done Davina this morning. I did Warm Up, UF Burner, Fitness Challenge, Abs and some stretch.

Well done under with regards the press ups, yes, even a minuscule dip is still progress.

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 25/06/2015 14:15

Woo hoo velma !! I'll take any sort of progress. Didn't Davina properly yesterday, but did do a few rounds of those deadlift/squat with weight things while I was waiting for the pasta to cook. I now have about half an hour before I have to go and pick the children up. I could do a few sections of the DVD but I've just had a big bit of cake. I'll puke if I do any exercise won't I?

welcome ebb the shred killed my knees too. Hope they're recovering ok.

PeaceOfWildThings · 25/06/2015 14:39

Am still in! I've bought some heavier dumbbells (4kg) and I'm really noticing a difference, especially after doing any lunges or squats!

In February my clothes were tight size 14 (reduced from a tight size 18 over the years and got down to 10/8 but then put some back on due to illness). Now, after nearly 4 months I'm back into size 10/12 and my aimed for fit & strong 10/8 is within sight!Smile Smile

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 25/06/2015 21:55

peace that's really inspiring. Have you been dieting too?

I braved the potential puking and did warm up, fat burner and the upper body weights one whose name always escapes me. Tried 2kg weights instead of usual 1kg ones and could not do it at all. Feeble weak upper body, me. Still, I did it and my alleged so-called press ups are still occurring, can't really say progressing, but I'm bloody doing them and they feel like I must surely be getting stronger.

Ebb · 26/06/2015 11:17

Wow Peace that's incredible. It gives me hope. I'm currently a 14 and used to be a 10 pre-kids. I'd be happy with being a 12 again though.

Today I did warm up, fat burner, abs, tone and sculpt, ultimate legs, tone and burn and stretch. I feel nicely achey now. Hoping to get a few sessions done over the weekend too but depends on family plans and fitting in around work.

PeaceOfWildThings · 27/06/2015 11:03

I spoke too soon about using the heavier weights. I made the mistake of also doing longer workouts with them (from 10 minutes to 30 minutes) and by day 3 was so sore and stiff it was painful to just get around. So have switched to yoga sessions morning and evening and now feel back to normal. I'm making DH join in with the exercises too. It's fun!

I haven't ever tried dieting like WeightWatchers etc, (tried their milkshakes and didn't like them). I did give low carbing a go which helped short term and got me off highly processed foods. Now I'm more into 'clean eating', which just means nothing processed, lots of wholefoods, mainly veg, some fruit meal and fish and carbs. I've become dairy free after a particularly nasty bout of gastric upset while abroad a few weeks ago. It's pretty hard to put weight on without cheese, milk, butter or cream in the diet! Smile Smile

UnderATennerAtTiffanys · 29/06/2015 13:06

Back on it today - warm up, fat burner and tone and burn, then a few stretches.

I was thinking whilst I was doing it about just how very easy it is to do something with this DVD. There were a few naysayers either on this thread or the previous one, who said that 7 minute spurts of exercise are not enough, and you need to do more. Well I wasn't doing anything at all, and now I'm doing something and I don't hurt like I did when I first started so it's obviously doing the job! I'm unlikely to radically alter my body composition, but actually I don't really care! I just feel better. And stronger, and I love that. So I know the thread's gone a bit quieter, but I hope that people are reading it, the way I read it before I started, and that they might be inspired to start doing something too.

Peace, hope your aches and pains have eased. Cherry Ebb Velma are you still Davinaing?

PeaceOfWildThings · 29/06/2015 13:35

Yes, short yoga sessions morning and evening have done wonders. I tried a short run this morning, but without my orthotics/prescribed insoles, and my arches are complaining a bit. I hope that tomorrow it isn't too painful. Tried a new cardio/HIIT workout today.

I am feeling stronger, despite the aches and pains. Doing yoga with DH helped my see how far I've come, as I'm stronger and more flexible than I was 3 months ago.
