Grab Your Tuna!

stevienickstophat · 18/03/2015 16:23

This is a thread about reclaiming exercise for those of us who never felt it was for us, or who lost our confidence after childbirth or illness or injury, or just lost our way a little bit regarding looking after ourselves.

This thread is about realising that getting up off the sofa and moving about a bit can be enjoyable, can be done in our pyjamas and can be fitted into lives that are too often lived for the benefit of other people.

This is a thread about firming up our wobbly bits, strengthening our bones, making our joints flexible and lifting our moods, so that the rest of our lives are that little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So, grab your tuna, wrestle yourself into your sports bra and watch out for the Little Differences!

Well, dug out my Davina fit in 15 and did the legs! Holy moly! Thought I was getting fitter Hmm I remember doing this when we still had our beautiful dog and she used to play fight with me when a lay down to do the abs session. Miss her lots Sad

I feel bloody good though. I also dug out my 30 day shred, blew off the cobwebs and attempted level 2, skipped a few bits of it just to catch my blimmin' breath but all in all did quite a bit.

I caught sight of myself in those god awful changing room mirrors when I was trying my jeans on, my bottom is firmer but my thighs still have a way to go, they have improved slightly but I'm blessed with cellulite which I won't be able to shift but I'm hoping to improve the appearance of! It's got to be done. I had a meh moment when I saw myself but then thought there's no point wallowing, I've got to do something about it, so I think I'm going to do a few of the 15 minute sessions a week focussing on legs and carry on with the 7 minute ones in the morning. Possibly throwing a shred in one night a week.

My meh moment (and changing room mirrors) can bloody do one!!

AmazonGrace · 26/05/2015 07:22

Morning!

Thought I'd give my legs a break this morning so did a session I haven't really looked at yet, abs!

So, warm up and abs done. You can really feel those abs working can't you! Blimey!

velmadinkly · 26/05/2015 09:14

I've not done anything for 2 days....this morning I did, warm up, UF Burner, Fitness challenge, tone and burn and some stretch.

Wow amazon level 2 shred, you can't be that unfit!

With regards the cellulite, yes, just accept that you can't necessarily get rid of it, but you can make the appearance look better. I'm the same with my jiggly belly, as the fat is reducing it is leaving wrinkly skin, granted there is still along way to go until its just sagging skin, but the choice is tighter looking skin without wrinkles, but having a muffin top and general rolls, or the wrinkly skin, I've decided to choose the latter. I'll never be a 'body beautiful', but I want to be the best me.

AmazonGrace · 26/05/2015 23:22

You're doing great Velma and if you keep on the way you're going you'll see the difference in no time. Three sessions and some stretch for you today, I salute you!

I was planning on doing another session tonight but didn't. Will get moving earlier tomorrow morning and hopefully do a few more.

velmadinkly · 28/05/2015 08:04

Warm up, fitness challenge, box fit, advanced abs and some stretch all done. I can't believe I've been doing regular exercise for 12 weeks!

AmazonGrace · 28/05/2015 11:25

I've not done anything for a couple of days after my initial enthusiasm. Day off today and meant to get up earlier with ds but I chilled in bed instead.

Not to worry, you're post has spurred me on Velma and I will crack on later today (hopefully) and do three sessions to make up for it.

AmazonGrace · 28/05/2015 11:27

*your

Yes wasn't it February when Stevie first posted about the DVD? Shock where's the time gone!

Kittycatcat · 01/06/2015 14:16

Hi all, would you mind if i join you? I've just invested in the davina 7 dvd as a result of your thread Stevie. My fitness level is zero at the moment. eeeeeee. Well done to you all for sticking with it.

velmadinkly · 01/06/2015 19:44

welcome kitty, yes do join us.

I must confess I've not done any exercise since my last post, not even any swimming.

I'm hoping to go swimming in the next 15 mins or so if the leisure centre phones me back to confirm if there is a lane to swim in at the 'women's only' session. I can't be doing with the breast stroke bobbers who stop at each end talking about the plot of Corrie or Eastenders etc. If I don't go tonight, I'll be definately going tomorrow.

Because work pressures have eased off and I'm only a short walk to the pool from work, I'm planning on swimming 3 or 4 times a week and then doing Davina 2ish times per week until I go on holiday. It will then change back to doing Davina more because DD will be on holiday from school and doing any exercise whilst she is around is really difficult.

AmazonGrace · 02/06/2015 18:30

Hellllo all, hello Kitty

I've been a bit lazy lately but just completed warm up, ultimate legs & ultimate fat burner. Breathing just returning to normal.

Off for a shower.

AmazonGrace · 02/06/2015 18:31

I NEED to carry on with this. Perky bottom needs more workouts!

Anyway, I really going this time!

PeaceOfWildThings · 02/06/2015 20:33

I had a week off and am regretting it. Managed 8 minutes of core workout yesterday and 12 of upper body today. Yay!

velmadinkly · 03/06/2015 12:26

I didn't get to swimming on Monday evening, but I did go yesterday and I'm going to go today. I might do Davina tomorrow or Friday and go swimming for either one of those days.

I've set myself a Direct Debit with the pool that I have to given them 1 month notice on to stop it. I calculated that I would only need to go 9 times in the month until it was paying for itself, so my 3 - 4 times per week would mean I was making a significant saving.

5.5 weeks until my holidays and I'm 1.8lb (so 2 really, lets be honest!) from my goal weight with a hope in my heart that I'll lost at least 5lb between now and then.

Luckily DH is now on a bit of mission to get rid of his daddy paunch before the holiday, which is making it easier overall, not that he really sabotaged me, but he never held me accountable (not that he should, I'm a grown woman). Whereas, now, because he isn't eating the biscuits etc., I don't want to let the side down.

How have you got on kitty?

Well done amazon and peace.

AmazonGrace · 03/06/2015 20:40

Great to see you still hanging in there, Peace and Velma.

Tonight I've done warm up, ultimate fat burner & legs. Did fat burner first this time to give me a proper warm up Hmm

I did have a blip. Must confess I weighed myself at my Mum's house and haven't actually lost any weight. I think I need to look at my diet too. I knew this would be the case but I tried to kid myself that I could do bits of Davina here and there without putting the effort in elsewhere. Anything is better than nothing though so I'm proud of myself for sticking with the DVD (on and off) but I could do a lot more.

I do feel firmer though especially my bum so I'm happy with that for now. Grin

AmazonGrace · 05/06/2015 19:04

Evening!

Quick check in - warm up, ultimate fat burner, ultimate legs done.

Hope you're all enjoying the weather!

AmazonGrace · 06/06/2015 09:13

Morning!

Warm up and ultimate fat burner done. Should have done more but ds is up and talking non stop so will hopefully do something else later.

I know you're all out there somewhere, come back ladies. I'm updating every time I do something as this is a great place to look back on.

Off for a shower.

Roseybee10 · 06/06/2015 10:22

Have hust found this exercise board. Very excited.
I'm someone who hated exercise until after my first pregnancy, where I gained 47lbs on top of the 17lbs I had gained since my wedding. I discovered HIIT and have never looked back. It's so easy to fit 10-15 mins into your daily routine and because it's high impact I see results so quickly. I've dabbled in the gym before and the odd exercise class but never saw much impact of an hour a week. Now I'm doing 15 mins a day it's so much better.

AmazonGrace · 06/06/2015 13:30

Welcome Rosey.

I love this Davina DVD, I've really tried to stick with it (despite having a few slack says) and it's been great having these threads to keep coming back too.

Can I just ask, what's HIIT?

Roseybee10 · 06/06/2015 13:34

I'm tempted to try Davina!
HIIT is just high impact intensity like the shred where your doing cardio mixed with strength at quite high impact for short bursts.
I much prefer it to long cardio sessions which just don't suit me x

PeaceOfWildThings · 06/06/2015 13:38

Welcome Rosey! Yes, the Fitness Blender YouTube videos I use incorporate HIIT as well, it makes a big difference to my fitness, but I have to build up to it to avoid losing my balance and hueting myself! Good to see someone else who has had a similar experience with weight and exercise over the years. Welcome aboard!

velmadinkly · 06/06/2015 18:36

I'm still here. I swam yesterday, so that is Tueday, Wednesday and Friday. No exercise for me today, but I think I'll do Davina tomorrow.

I've noticed with regards results, I get better results when I exercise first thing before eating and with regards fat burning, HIIT works really well when done this way.

When I swim I incorporate HIIT by doing some sprint swims, so a swim will be 10 x 25m breaststroke, 1x25m frontcrawl then 1x25m all out fast as I can front crawl and repeated up to 10 lengths with then a minutes rest at the end of the 10. 10x25m front crawl, then to take me up to 30 mins swim I do 3 x 25m medley of breastroke, backstroke front crawl. I wore my heart rate monitor on Tuesday and my max heart rate was 180bpm on the sprint, but it recovers quickly. The average heart rate is 145ish.

If I do a recovery swim I know that my heart rate averages at 115-125, so it clearly shows that HIIT makes you exercise anaerobically, which has shown to burn more fat in the long term.

If I do Davina tomorrow I will wear my monitor to see what my heart rate does and I will report back.

Welcome rosey and well done everyone. I can't believe we have kept the exercise up this long!

velmadinkly · 07/06/2015 09:33

So, I've done warm up, UF Burner, fitness challenge, U Abs and some stretch.

I did it wearing my HR monitor, the average HR = 131, max HR = 170. I went over 160 at the end of ultimate fat burner at about 164 bpm, then the full max was in the fitness challenge. So from that data, we can suggest that davina is indeed HIIT exercise, thus very good for managing insulin levels, burning fat and providing 'after burn'.GrinBlush

(The blush emoji is not really blushing, it is me puffing and panting)

PeaceOfWildThings · 07/06/2015 11:06

It's great to read everyone's experiences.
Yes, the Davina videos must be high intensity, judging from how you all talk about them! Grin

Day off for me yesterday, kust had too many errands to run. Did a 15 minute HIIT metabolism booster today and that feels good. My weight is coming back down again at a sensible pace too now.

velmadinkly · 08/06/2015 07:26

Warm up, fat burner, box fit, abs and some stretch all done. My hamstrings were tight this morning so I think I'll do the leg stretching bit again later in the day.

AmazonGrace · 08/06/2015 13:15

Afternoon everyone.

Just need to add yesterday's session, warm up and UF burner. Not a lot but still logging it on here.

I daren't wear a HT monitor, I'm sure it'd go through the roof. Velma, you're doing amazingly well, for me to see a vast difference I need to do what you're doing. Well done to you.
