Oh my...

I only went and did it!

It was Rushmoor (Aldershot). I kept running. I definitely started too fast. Lovely course. Ran with headphones. Nothing went wrong.

Next week I'm taking the dog. Off for a shower now. Yippee!

Thanks for all advice and encouragement!

HalleLouja · 08/08/2015 11:05

Thefact well done you. Glad you enjoyed it.

I managed to encourage a friend from running club to join in and she enjoyed it too. It was fun today, took some friends along too.

Thefacttheyact1234 · 08/08/2015 13:01

Thanks. Just seen the results. Very pleased!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/08/2015 13:21

Well done MrKarateKimmi and no not at all! Wow, so close now, will you come and let us know when babykimmi has arrived?

Well done Thefacttheyact1234, glad you enjoyed it.

Hope everyone else had a good one. I had the smoothest parkrun I've ever had as RD but got home at 11.15 to find dh hadn't fed anyone so I had two grumpy boys and two Velcro dogs! I wouldn't mind but I even took the baby so all he had to do was pour some cereal in a bowl as the older two are pretty much self sufficient. I never expect them to be dressed but the second I walked in they harassed me for food Angry

ThursdayLast · 08/08/2015 13:31

Well done thefact! So glad you had a nice time.

kimmi I can't believe you're nearly going to have a baby! Well done to your DH too Wine

Well done on a super PB blackcat!

I DNF today. My poor friend toppled over and chipped her ankle and sprained all her ligaments and toes Sad. I did do a lot of jogging around trying to find a phone, then someone with the right number and when that failed back to the start to get help.
She had to be delivered to my car in the the little 4x4 truck they use to check all the paths in the morning.

So then we had to get to a&e, then I came home, then drove her car back to hers, then home with DH who came to pick me up.

I was very glad to sit down to my fry up and the start of the football season.

Will try and do a parkrun for one tomorrow morning Grin

Thefacttheyact1234 · 08/08/2015 14:21

Ouch to chipped ankle Shock. Poor thing.

I've been walking around with tubigrips on my knees and lashings of voltarol Grin. Luckily I'm alone so no one is here to laugh.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/08/2015 17:23

Ouch Thursday your poor friend. I hope she will be OK and back running soon Flowers

Hope your knees are better soon as well Thefact

Grrr to MrCinnamon

Well done on your PB MyBlackCat Smile Star

Kimmi I am so pleased you popped up here, I was asking about you on the running thread earlier in the week Smile not long now! And good that MrKimmi has not quite caught up with you Grin

DS1 and I had a smashing time with feet and the mini-feet. The briefing was one of the best I've seen, it was brilliant, and they took their duties so seriously and did such a good job. And the Cake wasn't bad either Grin

Hope I haven't missed anyone, I can't scroll back.

Well my knees still hurt! I've rubbed voltarol on a few times, and taken some anadin.

I'm going to get some new trainers tomorrow and get my gait analysed. More importantly I'm not going to run on roads again. I'm convinced that's a problem.

Instead of running tomorrow I'm going to power walk - unless anyone has other advice?

runningLou · 10/08/2015 07:46

I have had loads of knee issues but if they are just aching I wouldn't worry ... Rest, and spend time with legs elevated and packs of frozen peas on knees. Take ibuprofen and give it a few days and you will be fine. It will just be because you pushed yourself at parkrun. Beware of gait analysis as it can just be used as an excuse to flog you expensive trainers! If yours are old or the soles are very worn then it's worth replacing them but otherwise any decent running trainers should be ok. It can be good to get trainers with arch support but go by what you feel is comfortable.
Warming up before running is very important for knees so make sure you Jo about before parkrun if you drive there. I cycle to mine and that is a great warm-up for knees. Also stretching afterwards is important too. It will settle down, honestly. You can keep running, no need to power walk, as your knees are probably just a little stiff now but they will loosen up. Swimming is also great.

runningLou · 10/08/2015 07:47

Jo?! JOG haha!!

Thefacttheyact1234 · 10/08/2015 08:20

Great advice, thankyou.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/08/2015 09:30

No knee advice I'm afraid Thefacttheyact1234, but hope they feel better today!

Hope your friend heals quickly ThursdayLast and you got out yesterday.

Thefacttheyact1234 · 10/08/2015 17:07

I've just had a very interesting gait analysis. Wasn't oversold anything. Came away with a nice pair of trainers that definitely feel more cushioned.

Fingers crossed they'll do the job!

MyBlackCat · 10/08/2015 20:36

thefact where in your knee is your pain? I got sore knees on the outside when I first started running, which was linked to tight IT bands (muscle down outside of thigh). I found a good foam roll helped - v painful but worth it Smile

chutneypig · 10/08/2015 20:52

I found the gait analysis very interesting. I knew I was doing something weird with my right foot that was giving me hip pain, but no idea what. My new trainers certainly sorted it out but I can imagine it's easily used to flog expensive trainers. I asked everyone I knew who ran before deciding where to go. It did sort my hip out, although took a couple of runs to settle down.

I hope your friend is doing ok thursday. Sounds traumatic all round.

Not what you wanted when you get in cinnamon. All the more frustrating bcause it wasn't difficult for him to avoid.

feetheart · 11/08/2015 08:08

Thursday - that all sounds very dramatic. How is your friend doing now?

The fact - well done! You do realise that this parkrun lark is highly addictive don't you :)

Lovely to see Ohone and DS1 and thanks for the cakes, one day we may even get to sit down and chat!
The boys did a great job as Run Directors. They did take it very seriously but they really enjoyed themselves and I was very impressed with how organised and assertive they were, especially with the volunteers - some of the adults should take notice!
Only the run report to do now and they are doing that tomorrow, under my watchful eye!
They have already asked if they can do it again.

The photo was taken on the way back from their post-parkrun trip to the playground :)

Lovely photo feetheart!

ThursdayLast · 11/08/2015 09:33

I'm glad it was a success feet! That's a lovely picture.

My friend is black and blue and mostly just annoyed at herself at the moment I think. She has an appointment at the fracture clinic this week, so hopefully there won't be any more bad news.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/08/2015 17:18

cinnamongreyhound · 13/08/2015 19:47

Our parkrun is mostly on forestry commission land ThursdayLast, they've been less than helpful with permission and suggested if it wasn't sorted by the end of the month they would reconsider issuing permission full stop Sad

Congratulations karatekimmi, ds3 was born on a Friday so didn't make the first parkrun after birth but did the second. Enjoy Flowers
