We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

Training for a 10k is a good idea chutney - my theory is that the longer you are used to running, the easier 5k feels!

No parkrun for me this week - we're going camping on Friday night. Actually I'll be waking up closer to my parkrun on Saturday but to go would be to abandon my DH with DS and some of my friends and their myriad children so I'd feel a bit mean Smile

MelanieCheeks · 21/07/2015 11:18

Hmmm, should I get my nails painted in 50-shirt-red for Saturday? Wonder if I can find a manicurist to paint on a little parkrun symbol too.

feetheart · 21/07/2015 11:29

Melanie - YES and post pictures please :o

chutney - GPS's are easily confused! Ran with the club last night, length of run varied from 5.7-6.1 miles depending on whose watch you looked at Hmm
This is why people muttering about our parkrun being too short/too long get short shrift from me (in a very polite, supportive parkrun sort of way :o)

steppemum · 21/07/2015 11:45

my GPS has a mind of its own. Last week parkrun was apparently 5.5 km. My pace sounded great as we went round, but I knew it must be out as I was at the back (as normal). Got home and looked at my run on the computer, apparently I went off the track and did huge figure of 8 shapes in the fields.

I wish there was a way to tell GPS your route, so that it plots you on that route instead of randomly where it thinks you are.

chutneypig · 21/07/2015 12:01

It was the gps on my phone too, never the most reliable! I was more convinced by our time being quick, I know my limitations Grin. Main thing was that DD was pleased enough to do her first parkrun the following week. Indoctrination is the important thing Wink.

I'm about to do a circuits class at lunchtime in the spirit of cross training. I may regret that!!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/07/2015 13:49

Sounds like a fab plan MelanieCheeks!

in a polite, supportive parkrun sort of way made me laugh feetheart!!!

Thank you all for your hugs and thoughts. Life should not get in the way of parkrun Wink

chutneypig · 21/07/2015 16:49

Have you got a steady hand Melanie? The nail art pens are easier to use than I thought and I'm a bit artistically challenged. But do I think you deserve a nice manicure for a milestone like that.

MelanieCheeks · 21/07/2015 21:21

I've found a naice local nail place near my new city centre office. Unbelievably I was already on their system when I gave my name-must've used them some time in the past. Anyway, they loved hearing the whole parkrun tshirt saga, and are looking forward to being my official manicurists on Friday lunchtime. I'll bring the shirt with me so we get a good colour match. Hey, it's cheaper than a tattoo!

feetheart · 21/07/2015 22:27

Definitely need photos :)

runningLou · 22/07/2015 08:49

Fantastic idea Melanie send a pic to parkrun you could make the newsletter!
Just signed up for a 10k on 27 September, will mark 6 months from my knee op in March when recovery is meant to be complete. Good to have something to aim for. Anyone used a good 10k training plan they would recommend? Am hoping to use the summer hols to train properly. Last 10k I did I just winged the training but I was far slimmer and faster back then! Would love to aim for 48 mins but not sure if realistic?! Did choose a flat course though ... Southport seaside 10k!!

MelanieCheeks · 22/07/2015 21:51

Clicky ankles-any suggestions?

holmessweetholmes · 23/07/2015 07:21

Hello Parkrunners! Sadly, I'm not Parkrunning atm due to injury, but I'm about to order my 50 shirt and wondered if any of you could help on sizing - do they come up largish or smallish?

I don't know whether to go for a large (12-14) or extra large (14-16), as I am bang on a 14. I've waited so long for my 50 shirt - I'd be gutted if I got one that didn't fit well!

Thanks.

MelanieCheeks · 23/07/2015 10:27

I think they're on the large side. I'd say I was a 10, but the size guide said small was 8-10, and medium 10-12, so I went for medium. It's definitely baggy!

But I've heard very good things about their exchanging policy, so you can always get it changed if it's not right.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/07/2015 14:25

I'm an 8 and the small is quite baggy on me, depends how you like them I guess. I would have thought if you went for a large it would fit and xl would be baggy.

MelanieCheeks · 23/07/2015 15:37

Right. Daughter is on tour this autumn, so I'm looking at combining a trip to see her perform with a parkrun. of course. Anyone familiar with Newport, Manchester(s), Newcastle?

holmessweetholmes · 23/07/2015 17:12

Great - thanks folks! I think I'll go for the large then - I'm not keen on baggy.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/07/2015 07:31

Looks like a wet parkrun tomorrow!!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/07/2015 07:53

Looking forward to seeing your nails Melanie I'm afraid I don't know any of the NW parkruns. A friend has run at Newcastle so I will ask next time I see her.

Thank you for the sizing chat, I am finally able to order mine Grin. Waiting for DS1's profile to open as well so we can order mine and his 10 shirt.

at the idea of a 48 minute 10K Smile

My funniest GPS story is when I was running in New York. I was almost home and decided to go into a Starbucks and grab a coffee. I forgot to turn off my Garmin, which got very confused at being inside a tall building and wandered off all over the place including jumping to the top of the building and back down several times as it tried to get a fix. When I downloaded it my elevations were off the page and I'd run several extra miles up and down the building Grin

I'm on tour to Sheringham tomorrow Smile

Morning all - so wet here that I think camping might be off, so I might be headed to parkrun after all.

I've done 2x5 mile runs this week because when I run I don't feel sick (and can't hear DS) Grin

Am not going to be able to do my favourite local 10k next month as it clashes with a night out organised by DH best man as a wedding present. I'm pretending I don't mind.

karatekimmi · 24/07/2015 17:07

Congratulations thursday I know I'm a bit slow, but I've had a few weeks off!!

37 weeks pregnant and itching to get back running! I've been given a special volunteer position stopping cars (I think I'm that huge that nothing can get round me Grin)

I'm a run director for our junior parkrun which started last week and it's my first time this week, slightly nervous but it can't be too hard!!

ThursdayLast · 24/07/2015 17:18

Gosh 37 weeks kimmi? How come everyone else's pregnancies fly by but your own draaaaaags?!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/07/2015 17:32

I'm sure that's not why you've been given that job karatekimmi!! Hope the last three weeks fly by! I was rd 2 days before my due date and everyone panicked. Enjoy Smile

MelanieCheeks · 24/07/2015 17:49

Melanie they look FABULOUS!

chutneypig · 24/07/2015 18:24

Fantastic Melanie. They look brilliant.

I'm very impressed with how active everyone is when they're pregnant. I could barely move for the first and last trimester!

Are you getting a lot of runners at the new junior run karatekimmi?
