We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

Halle - I need to be careful what I say don't I - world's colliding and all that :)

Ohone - would be lovely to see you and DS1 but loyalty to your local parkrun is more important if they are struggling.
We will be doing a 'Hatters' theme next week for the first day of the football season and a Beach Party for the Bank Holiday one if you want to choose another one.

chutneypig · 06/08/2015 17:58

That's really very very cute feet.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/08/2015 18:34

Awww, only just seen the picture - have been on my phone for most of the last two weeks, having brought the wrong charger for my laptop with me on hols!

Knowing my luck I'm going to kill this thread, but I've just completed couch 2 5k and am planning to do a park run on Saturday. Printed out my barcode. Would love to run with the dog (as I usually run with him) but don't really feel confident on my first outing. Eek!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/08/2015 22:09

This thread is unkillable Thefacttheyact1234 we all love parkrun too much!!!!!! If you want to take your dog then do so as long as it's kept on a short lead it will be welcomed. Some parkrun said are more dog friendly than others but it won't be a problem. I did c25k in 2012, it's fab hope you enjoy your first parkrun Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/08/2015 23:13

Oh good you found us ThefactSmile And lovely cinnamon is our canicross doggy running expert Smile She can give you all the advice you needSmile

Saturday will be great thefact. I finished c25k earlier this year so I'm pretty new to parkrun but the atmosphere is always great and very friendly.

Just the juniors for us this weekend although I'm trying to summon the energy to go for a run now as I still ache from an exercise class. Not sure whether it will help or not!

Thefacttheyact1234 · 07/08/2015 14:57

Thanks all.

I'm terrified!

Definitely no dog on my maiden voyage.

I've looked at the website a few times but I'm not 100% sure:

When I arrive, I have my barcode (laminated Grin). Do I swap it for a token that I then run with?

Thefacttheyact1234 · 07/08/2015 14:57

Actually I didn't mean 'swap'. I mean have it scanned then get given a token?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2015 15:55

Hi Thefact hope you enjoy tomorrow Smile.

You keep hold of your barcode until the end. When you cross the finish line, a volunteer will give you a parkrun plastic barcode with your position number on it. Then another volunteer will scan your personal barcode and your position barcode (if it's me, they will also be muttering "scan the human first" to themselves, as that is what the RD told me the first time I scanned Grin). Some behind the scenes computer magic means that the two get matched up with the stopwatch time (which another volunteer will have been clicking every time a runner crosses the line). You keep your personal barcode for next week unless you are one of my DCs, who are very good at losing them and hand back the position barcode (which more volunteers will sort back into order ready for next week). The results go up later in the day, and if you have signed up for it you will also get a text message.

Which one are you going to (don't worry if you would rather not say, it's just that we like hearing about all the different courses and planning our tourism Grin)

feet Bedford is looking healthy so DS1 and I will see you and the boys tomorrow Smile.

Perfect explanation OhOneOhTwoOhThree!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2015 18:42

Thank you cinners Smile. I remember being mystified when I first read about it and didn't understand the process until I'd done my first parkrun.

I still haven't got round to ordering my tee-shirt...

Thefacttheyact1234 · 07/08/2015 19:59

That's really clear thankyou. I'll come back tomorrow when I've done it and tell you all about it. I don't want to type it and 'jinx' it as knowing my luck someone will go 'oohhhh Timbuktu... I ran that least year, never again. They were unfriendly and the course was too hard'

Me? Paranoid? Never Grin

ThursdayLast · 07/08/2015 20:29

Makes sense Thefact and hello from me.

Am parkrunning tomorrow Smile

I was dreading it, I haven't been out much at all, and have been sort-of-struggling when I have. But my running bud is coming with me YAY. and DH has been muttering about a fry up for lunch, so all in all the weekends looking up Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2015 21:14

Grin Thefact enjoy your parkrun

Thursday I'd do a parkrun for a fry up Grin hope you are feeling a bit better soon Flowers

One more question if you don't mind... Do any of you wear headphones and listen to music?

The blurb said its not encouraged, but not banned. I've never run within music. It really drives me on. Although tbf I've also always run alone.

Thefacttheyact1234 · 07/08/2015 21:24

I've never run without music

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2015 21:46

I used to run with music until I put my iPod through the wash in my running jacket pocket lots of people (incl my DS1) run with music. Just make sure you have your headphones out for the run briefing Smile

OP posts:
chutneypig · 07/08/2015 21:58

I have music on if I'm not running with the spawn. People only tend to talk to me if I have them in tow anyway Grin.

feetheart · 07/08/2015 22:13

Excellent Ohone, should be more time for chatting than last time.
There will also be cake :)

thefact - can't promise that the course won't be hard they all seem hard most of the time to me but the other parkrunners will be lovely. Enjoy :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/08/2015 22:21

Oh good, cake is always a bonus Smile

Have fun at Penrose steppe!

karatekimmi · 08/08/2015 07:35

Good luck fact you'll be fine just take it steady to start with as it's easy to get swept up and go off too fast.

39 + 1 today and it's DH's 50th run. is it wrong to be pleased he missed a few and hasn't caught me up yet? I'm on 57 runs

thursday I found whilst running in my first trimester stopped me feeling nausea. It was hard to start but after 10 mins it went away - came back after though!!

Well done steppe keep at it!!

Won't be long now til I'm back now!!

chutneypig · 08/08/2015 08:31

Have a great time today everyone. Congratulations to kimmis DH on his 50th run but not wrong to be pleased he's not caught up!

Looking forward to hearing about the tourism steppe.
