Just putting a marker down for a new thread for the Shreddees! All welcome, and it's not limited to the Shred - all those working through any of JM's various forms of torture are very welcome.

I'm joining in again! Was last on the January thread. I'm up to day two of level two now. Planning to be up at 7 to fit in day three before work.

What time of day is everyone else shredding at? I prefer the morning, but find it such a ballache to get up in time!

AtAt · 05/02/2015 18:23

I'd love to do mine in the morning, but with ds it's just not possible. I do mine while dh is putting ds to bed, or once ds is asleep, if I'm doing bed time

MagpieCursedTea · 05/02/2015 18:32

I've done mine when DH finished work so he can look after DS. I'm not sure I could face it first thing!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2015 18:33

Missed again this morning, another work crisis and then I was having lunch with some friends (don't do that often enough) so didn't have time to get hot and then shower before going. I'm definitely a morning exerciser - works well in term time nowadays as DD has to be out to her bus shortly after 7:30. DH remarked this morning that when she goes off to university in a couple of year's time we'll have to make sure we carry on getting up as it makes the day so much longer.

So assuming tomorrow goes to plan, I'll have done Ri30 L2 3x this week. debating whether to do it some more next week or go to L3 - can't remember what it's like. And then its half term, not sure whether I will have a break or not.

DeliciousIrony · 05/02/2015 18:33

Magpie I've never had pain quite like the second (and third, and fourth) days of 30DS. I was quite cocky after doing day 1, didn't get what the fuss was about, and then the next morning...ouch...

It must be worth it though, I have not experienced much DOMS after any other Jillian DVDs, even after having a 3/4 week break from exercise over Christmas. What doesn't kill you...

PorkyMinch · 05/02/2015 21:04

I find it sets me up really well for the day if I do it first thing. Plus, I can bosh a lot more caffeine for energy! But I'm really not naturally a morning person. I really hate myself when I wake up and see how early I've set my alarm.

PorkyMinch · 05/02/2015 21:05

What's doms?

ElphabaTheGreen · 05/02/2015 21:25

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, Porky. The muscle pain you get the day/s after exercising.

PorkyMinch · 05/02/2015 21:27

Ah, that old friend! Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/02/2015 22:22

I did not Shred after all - the factor came round at 5 to tell me that they now think it's going to take a long time to get water restored. Private water supply appears to have dried up, and they are talking to Scottish Water about connecting us (the 4 houses and farm affected) to mains water, but no one knows how long it will take. I am worried that the landlord will decide it costs too much. I don't want to move! But neither do I want to spend goodness knows how long with no running water.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2015 07:58

Cheddar - oh blimey, thats awful.

Irony - yes, days 2-4 or thereabouts are painful but (a) doing the workout anyway seems to loosen things up a bit and (b) once you're through that it really is never as bad again.

blodynmawr · 06/02/2015 08:10

Have done a few days of 30DS L2 this week but not properly back to full routine yet. Will try and do better over the weekend.

ElphabaTheGreen · 06/02/2015 08:10

It can't seriously be legal to leave tenants - especially tenants with small children - without running water, can it? Confused

Babywearing exercise class today so no shredding

Tangoandcreditcards · 06/02/2015 09:10

30DSL1D4 done

Those 4 days I did a fortnight ago obviously did something because I'm not dying on my arse today. Still not ready to move onto L2 though, despite boredom. I've got no lower back muscles so rely on a strong core to protect my spine when planking, got to build it up.

Getting a bit of knee pain and some slightly splinty shins - did someone say new trainers would help?

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2015 11:12

Tango very wise to build up your core if you've a dodgy back. Maybe if you're bored you could mix up shred L1 with something else (not sure what off the top of my head). New trainers surely won't hurt - also are you doign the cardio on a hard surface? As I mentioned before I do mine on a piece of carpet on top of the proper carpet. If anything other than muscles hurts modify. I'm not sure I know what a 'shin splint' is, but my shins complained at one of the Shred cardio intervals - JJs and jumprope I think - so I mixed that up with the moves from the other interval (so something like JJs/high knees and jumprope/shadow boxing) - found that worked much better.

Sunrun · 06/02/2015 11:58

Just finished day 4, level 3 of shred.

It's the first time I've done this, what do people tend to do afterwards? I'm thinking of running 2-3 times a week plus shred twice a week.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2015 12:24

sunrun - if you like running (and hopefully will match your name) then that's a good plan. You might also consider looking at something other than Shred for the non-running days eg NMTZ which is really good strength/abs but no cardio. It's longer if you do the whole thing but you can pick and choose circuits as you wish to target different areas.

AtAt · 06/02/2015 12:28

Sun, I'm planning on doing the following..
Day 1-Level 1
Day 2 Level 2
Day 3 Level 3
Day 4 Run on the treadmill
Day 5 rest
then repeatSmile

MagpieCursedTea · 06/02/2015 13:23

Just finished L1D3.
I really dislike jumping jacks. I know she says "if 400lb people can do it then so can you". Now I'm not 400lb but I am fat, and I just find them so unpleasant because of the jiggling Blush

ElphabaTheGreen · 06/02/2015 13:34

TBH, she shouldn't really make 400lb people do jumping jacks. It's absolute murder on the joints. There really is no shame in doing low-impact jacks, and, in fact, is highly recommended if you find full jumping jacks at all uncomfortable. Smile

Tangoandcreditcards · 06/02/2015 15:44

Jiggling is just fear leaving the body magpie

Grin
MagpieCursedTea · 06/02/2015 16:06

Grin Tango that made me laugh quite a lot!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/02/2015 16:14

Some sorts of 'jiggling' can be helped by a good properly-fitting sports bra (I like shock absorber, spent quite a while with the lovely Debenhams fitter getting the correct size and adjustment) and sufficiently tight lycra leggings. For some of the jumpy moves (the ones other than JJs such as butt kicks/high knees) a bit of manual support of the norkage can make it a bit more comfortable. Grin

Sunrun · 06/02/2015 19:12

Thanks Errol and AtAt. I actually started Shred to improve my running as although relatively fit, I'm very weak and can't run very fast! So I want to make sure I keep up something to balance the cardio with strength.

ImogenQuy · 06/02/2015 20:09

RI30 L3 D5 done - on to L4 next week. Today has been weird: I felt yesterday at work that I was coming down with something - achey, joints hurting, shivery - so told my boss I'd work at home today to avoid infecting people. This morning it was much worse and everything hurt so much I was walking like the Tin Man, so couldn't possibly have done any JM. But by mid-afternoon whatever it was had pretty much gone away, so I got Ripped done just now while DH was putting DS to bed. I've never had an illness quite like that before.

PorkyMinch, in the ordinary way I vastly prefer to get it over with first thing. I don't actually like exercising and if it's done by 7 am I always feel I've got the worst bit of the day done, more or less regardless of what else happens.
