Runners thread number 7

Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

Did another week 4 run but this time ran through the last walk so did 9.5 min without stopping Smile (and a 3 min and a 5 min run as well). Only 2.6 miles as needed to stop a bit sooner to be back for when XH brought the DC back but every little helps Smile

emummy · 11/09/2014 11:26

Great work MirandaWest.
4.4 miles for me today in lovely sunshine so look like a beetroot now! So with the miles from Sirzy, dinocroc and Miranda and me I think that's 282.8 - anyone with a calculator feel free to correct me!

Morrigu · 11/09/2014 13:38

3.3 from me 286.1

Good to see you back OhOne

Pain in my leg still really sore when running. I've cancelled out shin splints as it's not a generalised place but specific spot and is on my left leg. I know my right is dominant as I have problems with my hip on the left. Tried to get a short notice physio appointment yesterday but there's none until Monday. No swelling or anything so I'm stumped and a bit pissed off this happens now days before the hm. Not sure if I could handle 13 odd miles as it was painful doing 3. Dunno whether to naughtily neck some painkillers before it and hope for the best

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/09/2014 19:23

Oh thank you Morrigu. I am still quite sore (and need to organize a sports massage/physio session but something else always seems to get in the way), and only running parkrun with nothing else during the week but it is good to be back on the thread Smile

Hope you get to the bottom of your niggles - you sound like me, my right achilles/calf and left hip are both out of whack.

originalpiratematerial · 12/09/2014 07:49

3 miles from me yesterday so thats 289.1.

Morrigu, everything crossed for you!

originalpiratematerial · 12/09/2014 07:53

Hello again OhOne - I'm just trying to get back too!

I had really super-good intentions when I went to Ireland of running up and down hills endlessly and coming back HM-fit. Never happened due to a combination of sore hip at the start of August, really dreadful weather (I did one run where I ran in bucketing rain for 1:15 and got lost and was so cold I could hardly talk Blush and another where I got caught in flash flooding!). So the HM didn't happen. I am really enjoying running again now, though, so that feels positive.

Morrigu · 12/09/2014 08:14

That's really good you're enjoying running again after injury originalpirate

It's a pita isn't it OhOne. I never realised how out of joint my body is til I started running.

Bitterly disappointed and quite stupidly upset but I won't be doing the hm on Sunday. Can feel it today with walking and sensible head on I don't want to aggravate something and end up out of action for months. Was a bit worried it was a poss stress fracture as I'm on depo injections, yes I am a slight hypochondriac Grin, but did the hop test and ok. I get the feeling it's something that will only recover with rest though. Will get down to the physio next week. There'll be other races eh?

MirandaWest · 12/09/2014 10:30

Went running again - did week 5 of c25k and did the one where it's run 8 min, walk 5 min and run 8 min. Including the walks at the beginning and the end I did 2.86 miles.
Next run (probably next week) I will run for 20 minutes in one go Smile

MirandaWest · 12/09/2014 10:31

So I think the total is 292 miles Smile

HalleLouja · 12/09/2014 10:45

296.5 miles if you add my run club tally.

originalpiratematerial · 12/09/2014 18:50

Morrigu Thanks - totally understand how disappointed you feel. But yy there will be other races.

EauRouge · 12/09/2014 20:00

I managed 2.6 crappy miles this morning, so 299.1 now.

Morrigu, I've had to cry off Wolf Run (and see everyone else go on about how great it was ) and the Great Eastern due to injury so I understand how you feel. Rubbish, innit?

EdithDickie · 12/09/2014 20:36

Sorry to hear that morrigu, hope that you are feeling better soon.

I did 5 miles tonight and didn't walk at all. Very proud of myself!

EdithDickie · 12/09/2014 20:38

299.1 plus my 5....

That's 304.1 isn't it?! Sorry, maths is not my strong point!

Morrigu · 12/09/2014 21:26

Aw Eau now I feel bad whinging but could use a few more choice words than rubbish right now Grin

That's brilliant Edith well done!

Cheers originalpirate, it's great that I can come on here and give off and everyone understands how pissed off it makes you feel as they've been through it themselves.

My aim is now to get over this and just go out and enjoy running for what it is and what I love about it. I think I've got caught up in training and times and distances and pushing myself cos I'm competitive with myself. I've pushed a little too hard I think. Lesson learned.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/09/2014 21:52

So sorry Morrigu and EauRouge, hope you can still enjoy your running and look to the next race.

emummy · 13/09/2014 10:10

7 miles this morning so 311.1. Lovely run along country roads and through woods in the mist. Felt great

ThursdayLast · 13/09/2014 10:39

Oh morrigu I'm sad for you. Must be so frustrating.
I've been a v slack runner this week, but I think I got a PB at parkrun this morning, so maybe that's the way forward Hmm
Probably not.

Local half tomorrow. I bottled the idea of running it, couldn't handle the pressure of training, but now v jealous of all my parkrun friends doing it.

ThursdayLast · 13/09/2014 10:40

Hang on I forgot to add my miles 3.1 + 311.1 = 314.2

5madthings · 13/09/2014 10:48

Ooh found you all again, lost the thread after my holiday in Wales. Anyway been busy since we got home with getting back into School routine and then a weekend away so no running until this morning when I went out with a friend. 7km which is 4.3 miles? We ran around the marshes which was lovely though we did have to dodge cow poo and I find running on grass/rougher terrain harder as I am used to running on paths/road. Was lovely to get out though. Going to try and get up early Mon morning so I can run before dp leaves for work at 7am. This will be a challenge as I am not a morning person! But it's dark in the evenings now and tbh by the time I have got through the day including 12 miles of school run on my bike with dd in bike seat the last thing I feel like doing is going out for s run, so mornings it is. Apparently if you do something for three weeks it will become habit... I was up and out by 7:30am today which is early for a Saturday so that's a start.

Hope everyone with injuries/niggles feels better soon.

315.5?

5madthings · 13/09/2014 10:50

Oops took so long typing I missed Thursdays post so 318.5?

runlikeagirl · 13/09/2014 11:37

I did 2.5 recovery on Monday, 4.8 with club and park run this morning, 3.1.

So, 328.9. I think.

New pb at park run 28.17 and I won our club handicap race. After quite a few months of difficult running, I'm enjoying it again.

guggenheim · 13/09/2014 11:44

Can I ask a couple of questions? I'm working my way through c25K and i'm up to W6R1 so feeling quite pleased with myself and a bit less wobbly.

Where do you go to do longer runs? I run around some local fields but a dog tried to bite me this am and I'm worried about going back.It caught hold of my jacket rather than my leg.

Do you run on grass or pavements? Pavements would avoid dogs but not be as much fun.

And what do you do when it gets dark early? Deffo. not running around field on my own then.

I don't want to allow small set backs to put me off, after all the pooch didn;t actually sink it's teeth into my ample backside, but it was frightening at the time.

Any good ideas?

ThursdayLast · 13/09/2014 11:57

Well done runlikeagirl! Love a PB

Oh guggenheim, that sounds so unlucky. I live quite rurally so I run on back roads, sometimes footpaths, sometimes through the local woods.
Longer runs are always on the road though - I have very thoroughly explored my local area in the last 12 mo or so!

As for darker days, I'm lucky that I can run in the day time. The benefits of rural living are outweighed by no streetights

guggenheim · 13/09/2014 13:40

Yes it was a bit unlucky, but nothing worse than that Smile

Love the idea of running through woods. Might have to get dh & ds to have a walk in the woods while I run ahead.Love the woods.
