Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

Doh! Yes damn autocorrect, her hair wouldn't have much to do with her running, her gait!

TheBigBumTheory · 04/11/2014 19:24

Just ran with friend 3.2 miles, wet and cold but quite enjoying my first running winter.

TheBigBumTheory · 04/11/2014 19:25

Actually all the older runners who ran well in dds 10 mile at the weekend had very short hair- so maybe it is a secret tactic. Aerodynamic haircuts Wink

EdithDickie · 04/11/2014 19:35

I am finding all the stuff about gait really interesting.

4.38 for me this afternoon. Lovely autumnal day. It was a route I have done before, a few weeks ago when I thought I was going to die, and this time I didn't, I was knackered but not considering throwing up! I'm taking this as a good sign!

EdithDickie · 04/11/2014 19:36

121.48 I think

TheBigBumTheory · 04/11/2014 19:37

Thanks Edith, I forgot to add it up.

Mitchy1nge · 04/11/2014 19:57

125.48

did 4 1m repeats but conveniently switched Garmin on about halfway round first lap (thought we were just warming up Confused) but I did the distance so it counts here and will just have to cope with only logging about 3.5 miles!

EdithDickie · 04/11/2014 20:00

Noooooooo! I missed your 3.2 Big... Sorry, my brain hurts! Bear with me...

EdithDickie · 04/11/2014 20:00

mitchyinge my DH went to school with the author of running with the Kenyans - lovely bloke, he made an appearance at our park run in the summer :)

standingonlego · 04/11/2014 20:57

But he forgot his barcode Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/11/2014 21:05

Interesting about the gait. Equally interesting about the hair - I have had lots lopped off mine since the start of the year but it has not improved my speed yet

3.5 lovely sunny autumnal miles through St James, Green and Hyde Parks today. I was glad I went at lunchtime, it was pouring down by 5pm which would have been my other option.

132.18

Mitchy1nge · 04/11/2014 21:10

hah that is a great anecdote standing!

he's got a mad first name hasn't he

Runkittyrun · 04/11/2014 21:52

8 miles from me tonight so 140.18
Also getting used to new shoes, Nike Free Pegasus which are causing a bit of calf ache. I think it's because I underpronate and midstrike heavily and these have a chopped outer heel I guess to encourage mid/fore-front. This "gap" is just where I usually lean outwards. Like actiongirl it seems to be worse going uphill.
Hopefully I will get more used to them as I'm planning to wear them for the Bedford half which is undulating!

actiongirl1978 · 05/11/2014 07:29

RunKitty - ah so it isn't just me?! My knee is super sore this morning, but the running shop thought it might be ITB, am going to present myself to my personal trainer this morning with all manner of aches and pains and let him diagnose me, whether bad shoes or bad running technique.

I would be interested to hear how you get on with them!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2014 07:37

Waves to kitty have you done the Bedford half before? I did it last year for the first time.

I run in Saucony Triumphs. A running shop recommended them - and some Asics that I didn't like - when I first started and I have stuck with them ever since.

pirate welcome back. I used to have one of the Karrimor jackets and really like fit - it was well cut, with a decent zip and pockets. Sadly someone else also thought so - I left it tied firmly to a bench on a local cycling path when I was on a long run last year and by the time I returned an hour or so later it was gone. It couldn't have blown away, but who would want a sweaty bright yellow jacket?. I replaced it with a LIDL one as they were having an offer on running gear that week (I cycle every day as part of my commute and needed something quickly) but it's not as good.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2014 08:49

134.88

2.7 chilly damp miles this morning.

Runkittyrun · 05/11/2014 12:23

I was using saucony grid ignition 4 which were ok but with wide feet, the decals round the widest part of the foot on most shoes seems to cause me blisters. I wanted to try something without seams there which cut down the choice quite a bit.
OhOneOhTwoHThree - no I haven't run Bedford before and now worried about the hills tbh. The HM I did was Grunty fen, pretty much flat! How did you find it last year?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2014 12:29

kitty the hills are not too bad - there are two big ones that I remember - about miles 3 and 6 from memory Smile. But what goes up must come down! The worst bit was the last mile or so, which is just a bit undulating rather than hilly, you probably wouldn't notice it if you were just having a normal run but it's not what you need at the end of a HM.

I am old and slow and run at the back (my best HM is 2:19 or so, a great improvement from my first one which was 2:45 Grin) and just take my time up the hills.

Mitchy1nge · 05/11/2014 12:31

saucony ignition are my spare (but secret favourite) shoes (otherwise is saucony triumph with NB 980 trail for off road)

because I only use my toes (and they splay out as I land on them) I have to lace my shoes to increase the space there, and use elastic ones too, otherwise no toe box is wide enough for the job, will see if can link to lacing techniques which can make a big difference

saucony do have a new shoe with bigger toe box tho

Mitchy1nge · 05/11/2014 12:38

M1tchy I was always told to do the top left lacing, so that if you had an accident it would be easier to cut through the laces to remove the shoe. What a cheerful PE teacher we had!

Hello!
I've had a bit of an unmotivated week so far - but just squeezed out a 34min 5k. Beautiful day down here today.
