After Wednesday's treadmill failure and Dhs car crash today (he's ok, it was the other drivers fault, both cars written off and a hospital trip for him and the other driver) I really really need tomorrow's run, the treadmill as well as needing maintenance before I can really use it it's not the same as being out alone in the woods feeling like I'm getting somewhere.

Imflabulous · 17/10/2014 07:29

I hope your husband is ok spidey.

Running outdoors is much better than the treadmill, although the treadmill will come in handy when its raining!

DaftMaul · 17/10/2014 07:53

Imflabulous, how did it go?

Spidey, hope your dh is ok today? What a pain that the treadmill isn't working properly. I guess that is why they wanted to give it away!

I have done something to my knee. It started hurting slightly at the end of my last run on Wednesday and now it crunches sometimes when I am turning or the leg is twisting although it's not particularly painful. I'm supposed to be doing my W6R3 (25min run) today but not sure if I should. May give it a go and see how it is - i can at least have a walk.

Although I was dreading today's run, I'm gutted if i can't continue. Had been so determined to get finished by christmas Hmm

addictedtosugar · 17/10/2014 08:36

I'd rest today, Daft. In fact, if its crunching, I'd go for RICE (Rest, Ice (maybe not) Compression and elevation)

There is plently of time til Christmas to finish the last few weeks, if you don't seriously injure yourself.

Spidey eck. Was this the car you bought at the same time as the tread mill? Or are you now going to have to donate your car to DH til you can replace his? Hope everyone is OK (think its your child who had been sick?)

cadidog · 17/10/2014 09:03

Joining this thread as I did my wk3r2 last night. I had been dreading it but it was actually ok.

I usually run along some paths that dog walkers use but they're unlit so that's coming to an end with the dark evenings. I'm going to have to start running on the roads which I'm not really looking forward to.

Oh and I accidentally listened to next weeks podcast and the thought of a 5 min run fills me with dread.

MySpideySenseTickles · 17/10/2014 09:22

We've had a dramatic few weeks!
Not the same car Dh had a lovely Audi he'd only had a couple of months. He can't drive mine because mines a manual and he only has an automatic licence which is annoying as I just changed cars from an automatic. He's getting a courtesy car until the insurance comes through and we can get him a new car, so at least when he's recovered he can work.
He's sore and grumpy but no change there lol.

MySpideySenseTickles · 17/10/2014 13:08

W2r2 done and felt awesome, felt like I could have carried on. Got twitchy legs now.

ScienceRocks · 17/10/2014 13:38

Well done crappy, spidey, iggi and cad (and anyone else who has run). Imflabulous, give it a go. I have never run before but am now on week 8 Grin

Daftmaul, sounds like you need an extra rest day or two. Why not walk it and see how you feel?

I did week 8 run 1 today, which was a 28 minute run. I ran a bit faster (8.2kph according to map my run) and could even have kept going for longer. That 5k is feeling within my sights, which is astonishing given my poor level of fitness when I started.

I still haven't lost much weight, even though I have a flatter tummy and feel much fitter, so I am going to try some jillian workouts (the resistance type ones from body revolution) on my c25k rest days if I get time.

stilllearnin · 17/10/2014 14:13

Hi I'm still on a break with my dizziness but wanted to say well done to everyone. Spidey- you're doing so well and - cadidog- I loved the 5 mins - it was the first time I felt I was getting somewhere. I hope to run this weekend if I feel well enough!

DaftMaul · 17/10/2014 14:21

I was sensible and didn't try running. I have been feeling more wheezy again today, so thought I should give running a miss. It's half term from Wednesday next week so getting three runs in after that will be tricky until they dcs go back. Might look into one of the 30 day challenges instead.

Stilllearnin, hope your dizziness subsides.

Science, sounds as though you are going great guns!

Spidey, wow, we'll done! Hope the insurance covers your dh's car.

Welcome cadidog. Each new week has filled me with dread but completing each one has been so satisfying and given a great sense of achievement.

mylifeagain · 17/10/2014 20:29

Hope the dizziness passes soon stillearnin

Wow superb sciencerocks

Well done spidey and cadidog and anyone else I've missed

Did my 20 mins non stop W5R3 earlier.I really wasn't in the mood and left home in a pretty defeatist mode BUT I DID IT!!!!! Woo hoo

WastingMyYoungYears · 18/10/2014 09:09

Hi everyone Smile. I've just dropped in to say Hello (I've been lurking) - it's great to read about all of your successes, well done.

I think I'm going to try a new 5K route later, I hope I don't get lost Grin. And two people commented on my weight loss for the first time yesterday, hurray! It seems to be slow but steady - I've lost over half a stone so far, and would probably like to lose another half stone. I've been going to the gym too, which I like, and which gets round the dark at night issue. I've entirely failed to start a 30 day challenge though, even though I said that I would Confused.

Iggi999 · 18/10/2014 09:23

Wasting you're spared me on to go out this morning - will be my first morning run, have had a banana only in preparation Smile I've noticed I seem to be leaving two days between runs more often, which is a bad sign. Also it takes a bit longer now as I need to be out for about 50 mins to try for 5k, which impacts more on dh. Registered for local park run - not ready to do it yet, just registering! Good luck to all resters and runners today.

stilllearnin · 18/10/2014 09:33

My life - I bet you didn't return in defeatist mode! Fantastic stuff. Well done!!

2down1togo · 19/10/2014 09:47

hey all - ok if I join? I'm starting week 4 today - feels like its going to be a big step up so I'm anxious about it! I've had 2 children in 2 years and somehow added 2 stone also, really need to shift some weight! enjoying having a bit of time to myself also. I have been doing 2 circuits of the 7 minute workout 3 nights a week as well as the 'running' - feel like I'm getting somewhere but it's hard to keep the motivation up!

Iggi999 · 19/10/2014 11:09

Good luck for your run today, 2down1togo. It does get easier!

ScienceRocks · 19/10/2014 16:47

2down, how did it go?

I did week 8 run 2 earlier. I did it on the treadmill in the interests of increasing my speed, which I did to 8.6kph with the last minute (of 28 Shock) done at 9kph. With the walking, this meant I did 5k today! Running faster and for longer is making me sweat much earlier than I used to, which I am taking as a sign that my metabolism is stepping up a gear.

I did a jillian yesterday too, and went for a massively long walk with DH and the dog (we got lost, which made it longer). I WILL lose this weight.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Redcliff · 19/10/2014 17:01

Just about to go for week 3 - the thought of a 3 minute run is very scary! Really impressed with doing 5 K science - that seems like a pipe dream for me at the moment.
2 down - also have 2 kids (although 7 years apart) and the weight from the 1st didn't shift - ever! Have decided I don't want that to be true of my 2nd born hence the C25K - how are you finding in fitting in the runs with 2 kids? That is what I find hardest.

addictedtosugar · 19/10/2014 17:52

Hope your back safely, Redcliffe. Trust the program, it really is amazing how it gets your body ready for the next step.

Science - you seem to be steaming along. Congrats!

I too am trying to shift the baby toddler preschooler primary kids weight. Its going slowly, but a month off for perma-cough and it started going back on. Been out Friday and today tho - and 30 sec per km quicker today than friday. So hopefully I'll get back most of my fitness in the next couple of weeks.

I'm also 2/3 of the way through a 30 day challenge, but it appears my abs / core muscles are wrecked. So think I might need to try a 30 day challenge to work on those over November.....

How are people finding running in the wind? I struggle keeping my hair out of my mouth - its tied back. I remember some soft headbands that went all the way round my head as a child. Do they exist in adult sizes? Might it help?

MySpideySenseTickles · 19/10/2014 18:21

I crocheted a headband which goes over my ears which is brill because it kept my hair under control, stops my earphones falling out and keeps my ears warm. I'm currently making more to open an etsy shop to sell them.
Although I'll not need to wear mine to control my hair since I had a mad ten mins and took the clippers to it, I was aiming for anne Hathaway in Les mis, I think it's more of a britney breakdown/sinead o connar look lol

Redcliff · 19/10/2014 18:48

Spidey = lol. I am, sure your hair looks lovely, I used to cut my own hair too but just tie it back now. Your hairband sounds good.

I did the run! The 3 min bit was a killer and the end of it may be some of the slowest running ever but I didn't stop! Your so right sugar - the program does what it says on the tin. What it the 30 day challenge?

MySpideySenseTickles · 19/10/2014 19:27

Was really looking forward to getting week two over with and moving on to week 3 but I've developed quite a chesty cough to go along with the sore throat and cold, don't think its a good idea to run when just moving makes me cough uncontrollably.
I'm dissapoand frustrated but I'll just have to give it time.

addictedtosugar · 19/10/2014 19:29

Spidey how are DH and your D&V child doing? The beauty of hair is it grows out again if you don't like the response. I'll look out for you on Etsy!

Redcliff 30 day challenge I'm on day 19 of the little black dress one. I had to start on the first of a month, as I've totally lost track of what stage I've got to, and have to check the date to see what I should be doing! Glad the 3 mins went well.

addictedtosugar · 19/10/2014 19:31

Oh, Spidey x-posts. Sorry to hear your ill now. Running with a cold / cough isn't recommended. You've made such progress already, any chance of walking your route to keep your legs going without stressing your lungs?

Redcliff · 19/10/2014 19:32

Spidey - that sounds rough but your being very sensible. No point in getting sicker and sure your be back on form before you know it .
