A purple Garmin 10 :)
I had done some research and was looking at maybe getting one but DH knew nothing about it and swears he didn't look at my Amazon history. He does have form for getting things REALLY right at times but I was still very, very surprised and very pleased.

Looks like DS's gymnastics is about to change so we may have more chance of getting to parkrun :)

feetheart · 28/08/2014 12:03

To those reasonably local to me have you seen this?
[[http://www.votwo.co.uk/events/glow-in-the-park/bedford/?VIEW=bedford&ROUND=78 Glow in the Park

Sounds good but can't find a mention of an age limit - DS would love to do it and would be very cross if he wasn't allowed to and I did it on my own :)

feetheart · 28/08/2014 12:04

Make that Glow in the Park

ThursdayLast · 28/08/2014 12:32

Squeeeeee a friend and I just signed up to The Scrooge!

Looks like it could be a lot of fun!

Glow in the park sounds good too.
And well don't Mr feet for impeccable timing.

Blatherskite · 28/08/2014 12:51

I did the Bedford Glow in the Park last year and absolutely hated it. To the extent that I didn't bother to use the free place they offered me for another event as a thank you for handing out loads of flyers for them.

It was too soon after I tore my calf and I was in agony for most of it which I don't think helped but I don't know of anyone else going back either.

It's a proper trail run around a lake and is 2 laps for the 10k. Unlike The Spooky Sprint (which I would do again) they started when it was already pitch black so you didn't have the opportunity to scope out the course in the twilight on the first lap and were just running blind for the whole thing which was hard going when the course was in places very muddy and up/down hills too. Lights were apparently placed 200m apart to guide you round but there were a couple of places where the course doubled back on itself and was less than 200m away from the return so it got really confusing as to which direction to run. Timing was done with 'dobbers' rather than chips so you had to queue at times to cross the finish line too which affected times. There were no bib numbers either, we just had them written on our hands.

The medal was a bit rubbish too imo.

Last year's was the first event so hopefully they've made some improvements for this time and there must be a few people going back. I won't do it again though.

HalleLouja · 28/08/2014 13:14

Good news on the gymnastics Feet. I have a couple of people to take to parkrun this week. Am thinking of changing when I work at the weekends around so I can come to PR then on to watch my son do his football skills.

1amtheonewhoKnocks · 28/08/2014 20:37

May I join although not sure I'd call myself a runner as such! Basically completed c25k last year but in December gave up running due to injury. Decided to get back into it about 6 weeks ago doing the 0210k programme, currently just about to start week 7 with a 10k race in 4 weeks. Absolutely terrified but looking forward to it as well.

ThursdayLast · 28/08/2014 21:24

knocks all are welcome here Smile
I did my first proper 10k at the weekend and loved it. So long as you're training, you'll be all good.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2014 22:54

Hi 1amtheonewhoKnocks, if you run you're a runner.

Which makes me not at the moment :( all plans of anything yesterday afternoon/evening went out of the window when my little dog ate dh's fishing hook :( trip to vet for an injection to stop her stomach emptying and surgery today leave us almost £800 further in debt and with a not so great end to our hols. Really stressing now, although she seems to be recovering well. Home tomorrow and will do home parkrun but have to dash as she's got to be at the vet for 10.40. Sorry for miserable post and yay to all those entering races :)

feetheart · 28/08/2014 23:25

Oh no cinnamon that's really rubbish :( Hope both you and doggy get some sleep and feel better.

Welcome Knocks - I agree with cinnamon, if you run you are a runner. Terrified and excited sounds about right

Thanks for the heads up on Glow in the Park Blathers, I may have a look round for something else as DS can be a liability in broad daylight!

Could have done with a head-torch by the end of tonight's run with the running club Shock Think we will be pounding the pavements soon rather than the lanes and fields :( We did a slowish, steady 4.6miles and I got beaten in the sprint finish again although at least it wasn't by an 8 year old this time.

Total - 742.2

Blatherskite · 28/08/2014 23:40

If you can get to Nottingham then the Spooky Sprint is good feetheart. It starts earlier so the first lap is done in semi-light and you can get a feel for where you're running, plus it is mostly on paths so a lot less likely to end in a trip and injury. The course marking is better and the t-shirts have a glow-in-the-dark logo on them which is fun. Fancy dress is encouraged too which might be fun for your DS. Support is also much, much better which helps. It has a 5k or 10k option just like Glow In The Park too.

emummy · 29/08/2014 10:48

5.3 miles from me so 747.5. Following a plan from Runners World and so did strides today for first time ever. Didn't think I would manage all 10 but I did. Must be fitter than I thought! Time for cake!

standingonlego · 29/08/2014 13:09

A lovely long and by the end very dark run round the streets last night. I was thwarted by phone dying halfway round so no idea of actual distance as per runkeeper. But rough map measuring makes it about 6 miles taking us to 752.5. Parkrun tomorrow, and then a week to Wolf run....we will be fine feetheart Grin

Sirzy · 29/08/2014 13:09

Race number arrived for Wigan 10k. Feeling very underprepared but as long as I get around hopefully quicker than mancheater I will be happy

Will check out Spooky Sprint too :)

Blatherskite · 29/08/2014 18:36

I need some nutrition advice please... I've got a Half Marathon tomorrow - at 3pm. If it's a morning race, I usually eat something carb-y like porridge as breakfast but I'm not entirely sure what to do for an afternoon race. I could have (my usual) nothing for breakfast and then pasta or something for lunch maybe? Or porridge and pasta to carb load but will that leave me feeling too full and slug-ish? What would you do?

1amtheonewhoKnocks · 30/08/2014 08:55

Cinnamon, so sorry to hear about your dog, hope all is well now.

Thanks for the welcome but now having a crisis of confidence. I have exactly 3 weeks left until my race and 12 training sessions left in my plan. So do I keep with plan a which is going at running 3 x a week and have my last 60min run as the race itself or do I go with plan b which is from Monday run 4x a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) which means I complete the plan 2 days before the race??

Unfortunately illness made me behind with the training plan but I don't want to give up on the race. Maybe I need to think about going to the gym as well as running???

Argh!!!!

emummy · 30/08/2014 10:09

5 easy miles through a muddy wood and on the road, good fun! So a total of 757.5.
IamtheonewhoKnocks I don't know! If you can run 4 times a week then I probably would do that but be careful that you're not doing too much, you have to pay attention to how your body feels. Hopefully someone more experienced will have some more intelligent advice for you!

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2014 10:16

I think it depends on your confidence 1amtheonlyonewhoKnocks, I'd stick with 3 a week and have the race as final run but if you'd prefer to have already done a 60min run then perhaps lengthen an earlier run?

I'd eat breakfast and lunch blatherskite, don't want to be calorie deficient.

3.1 parkrun miles from me, very slow I'm sure!!! 760.6

HalleLouja · 30/08/2014 10:27

I have 6.2 miles to add (Thursday and Park Run) 766.8 miles.

ThursdayLast · 30/08/2014 10:56

Adding my parkrun (so close to a PB gah!) and a 10k ish from last night. Bit of a new route which was nice, but I had to wear v bright clothes at 6pm which is a sad signal that summer is on the wane.

So I make the total 776.1

TessTackle · 30/08/2014 16:12

Hello all!!

Hope you're all well. After six weeks off I'm finally in my running stuff waiting for Dd to be picked up by her dad so I can get out.
I'm strangely nervous for some reason Blush

Morrigu · 30/08/2014 16:41

Hi knocks you are definitely a runner.

Hope your doggy is ok cinnamon. Are you able to claim any of the vets bill back on insurance?

Good luck for your half tomorrow Blathers. I personally would get up a bit earlier and have porridge for breakfast then an early lunch of pasta. I find I'm usually starving an hour after having pasta anyway.

Hope your run went well Tess. I was the same after having a break.

5 miles to add today so 781.1 Oh my it was sooo good to get out. Have had a bit of a nightmare the last few days stressed out with various stuff, depo injection making me feel like I have seriously bad pmt and health issoos. All I wanted to do was blow off steam and go for a run but couldn't. Roll on two weeks time when my parents are home after their 4 months away as they always help me out for a quick hour babysitting so I can head out to get some miles in.

1amtheonewhoKnocks · 30/08/2014 16:54

Cheers guys and we'll find on the miles today I am seriously impressed. Stupid question but when you say you've run 5 miles or whatever are those just purely running miles or some walking as well? Reason is yesterday I did 2.78 miles in 31 mins but only 25 mins were running because of walking breaks so does that count as a 2.78 mile run???

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2014 17:02

She's good thanks Morrigu, vet check up today and they're happy with her healing but need to keep her quiet now which is almost impossible as she's feeling fine :) unfortunately I don't have her insured :(
