5 1/2 stone cinnamon? That's so impressive.

Hopefully Hi, thanks for your advice. I wouldn't aim to speed back up to 9 min miles if you are aiming to train for a long run. 10, even 11 mins is good for a half marathon. You need a very manageable pace to keep the distance.

Morrigu · 25/06/2014 13:28

Hi Duchess, Hopefully and Lottapianos.

Interesting about the shoes Hopefully as I would be heavy on my feet, even walking.

If you ever find out the answer to the calves question threedeer do let me know. My calf muscles seem to have sprung from nowhere and not sure how to feel about them as I've always liked my legs the way they were. The not so flabby ass I can live with Grin

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 25/06/2014 13:33

Hello new thread and welcome to all the newbies.

I can add a very overheated 6K to the total making it 1545.2. We have our work cut out to make it to 2500 by the end of the month. If that was what we decided the target was, I forget?

I share the woe of "runners calves." I'm probably the fittest I've been in a long time at the moment but I can't wear my skinny jeans anymore because I can't get them over my meaty calves! Shock

Hopefully · 25/06/2014 13:47

You're right threedeer - I guess if I could keep the 10:30 pace for my long runs as I increase distance I should be happy!

morrigu I found it fascinating with the shoes - had never clocked how different my gait was barefoot, just assumed I was a herd-of-elephants style runner!

I'm doing Shred tonight as my 'cross training' (hoping it will improve my core a bit), am a bit stuff from yesterday's run still but I'll survive.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2014 13:51

How old is your dd now Hopefully? I think you need to be kind to yourself. There's no reason you can't get back to 9mm even over longer distances but it'll take time with almost a year off. I started running 2 1/2 years ago and went from 34min 5k to a pb of 25:58 now but it took time and training. I'm trying for a baby now and intend to run through my pregnancy if I can but don't expect to be zooming around!

Hopefully · 25/06/2014 14:02

She's only three months. I am terrible at being gentle on myself when it comes to training, it takes a real effort to not think 'if pushing myself a bit is good, pushing myself loads must be better!' I am determined to be halfway sensible this time, otherwise I will be nursing injuries instead of running a HM in oct. Maybe you lot can help keep me on the straight and narrow!

Hello runners old and new.
I've just got in from an 11 miler so hope you'll forgive for being too lazy to name check Smile.

Was ok. Has been overcast here this lunchtime, so I had quite pleasant conditions. Took my water. Didn't hate carrying it quite as much as last time so that's a bonus.

Phew. Just scoffed a pasty though while toddler DS was distracted and feeling a bit gross and bloated now.

Anyways 11 miles = 17.7k.

Total 1552.9

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2014 14:16

So you mean you've been back running 6 weeks and after a 11 months off and a baby you've not regained your previous pace? Shame on you Hopefully Wink! Seriously though, you should be proud of being out there running with a 3 month old, sod the pace!! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2014 14:16

Well done ThursdayLast :)

emummy · 25/06/2014 14:44

No running today but at boot camp we ran up lots of steps 6 times, so that must count! Calves are still a little trembly! Was excused burpees though as treat for my birthday, suspect we'll be doing loads next week to make up for it.
Welcome all new runners!

Hopefully · 25/06/2014 14:57

I know cinnamon, I should be ashamed of myself! Grin

ThursdayLast · 25/06/2014 15:03

emummy is it your birthday today? Happy Birthday Cake- no burpees is a totally acceptable birthday present in my eyes!

hopefully I can relate to wanting to do too much too soon. Try try try to resist the urge though, you'll thank yourself in the long run. Nearly 15mo on, and I still get twinges in and around my section scar and I built back up really slowly.

Thanks cinnamon!

emummy · 25/06/2014 15:46

It is Thursday thank you! Felt every one of the years at the top of those steps. All better now I have more cake!

TessTackle · 25/06/2014 15:57

Happy birthday emummy Wine Cake Thanks

Hopefully · 25/06/2014 16:15

Happy birthday emummy and Shock at bootcamp.

Thursday I've been v lucky with c section recovery - I have literally 1 teeny weeny bit that is a bit tender if I prod it, but no soreness at all. I was counting down till 6 week check to get the all clear to exercise.

ThursdayLast · 25/06/2014 16:50

Sounds v familiar, I think we're running twins Smile.
I still prescribe taking care!
I used Adidas Micoach when I got back into it, they gave lots of plans that might help you pace yourself?
I can also recommend pilates post-section. In fact, I think my core is stronger now than it was before!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/06/2014 19:50

Well done on such a long run n this heat Thursday

briteside I have started doing little local runs because they are so much cheaper - although I suppose that means that there is less incentive to turn up if you don't feel like running. The 3 runs I did at the weekend were something like 26 quid for all three.

ThursdayLast · 25/06/2014 20:12

Thanks ohone, although it hasn't been quite as hot here today. I would never have attempted it at lunchtime otherwise.

Anyone getting runners white patch in the crick of their elbow? I think it must be from being outdoors so long with my arms bent Grin

originalpiratematerial · 25/06/2014 21:49

Hello to all our new joiners! I will not attempt to namecheck as am too dopey and will miss someone out Blush.

I always had massive calves and running certainly hasn't done anything to make them smaller. Otoh my thighs are the best they've ever been.

I'm doing a HM for the first time at the end of August and I will be chuffed if I make it round doing 10:45 min miles. There is no way I can run 13 miles at 10 mins per mile, even 10:15 would be extremely hard. I don't care if I finish last - someone's got to!

Hopefully · 25/06/2014 22:43

Mostly run in the evenings so no entertaining tan lines yet, but am anticipating an iPhone holder one on my arm again as I get into longer weekend runs.

Have a very slight soreness in my shin today (I was semi-aware of it as I cooled down after my run yesterday too), will be peeved if I have to sack off my run tomorrow.

postmanpatscat · 25/06/2014 23:00

hopefully I can't get along with armbands, so wear it on a narrow waist pouch instead. No tan lines there!

I didn't run tonight, as I did last night, and by 5.30pm all I'd had to eat all day was a yogurt so I prioritised food instead of exercise.

Nice long run Thursday

karatekimmi · 26/06/2014 06:50

Hi all, thanks for the shiny new thread!

just 2.7km from me, running to the park. 1555.6

We have a way to go to get 2500!! I hope everyone is doing long runs this weekend Grin

sassytheFIRST · 26/06/2014 07:15

Hi all,

Ran with dh for the first time ever the other day. He is substantially fitter than me (black belt in tae Kwon do and mountain bikes too )but I mostly kept up and it was actually lovely to run together. 5k then.

Going to gym today - aiming for 5k plus on treadmill but using the hills program. It's a killer Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 26/06/2014 07:20

Lovely sunny cool run with my buddy back this morning! Getting very excited about my race tomorrow!

No tan lines from me but then I'm outside a lot in addition to my running. I keep my phone in the pocket in my leggings just need to tie them tight :)

Total of 1567 with my 4 miles and sassytheFIRST's 5k :)

threedeer · 26/06/2014 07:46

Ran four miles yesterday through woods and farm land. Lovely. Not sure how many k that is - about 6?
