I can hear the tannoy from my house. DS2 is going out at 9 a.m. to cheer on someone from church. With 12,000 runners, I hope they spot him!

Meanwhile I need to work out a running route for myself this morning that's not too close!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2014 09:01

Wow Seymore that is speedy! Well done. I dream of getting under an hour (my nickname is a previous 10K PB).

Good luck to the race for lifers and Hackneyers. Next year pirateSmile !

Thanks for the perspective on the trails Thursday, that was helpful as I haul my stiff and sunburnt self off for today's run Grin

I need to do the HM in 2.35 if I am to get under 5 hours for the whole thing. My only full marathon, for which I was fully trained and tapered, was 4:59:35 so I'd like to get near that if I canSmile

feetheart · 22/06/2014 10:41

Ohone - well done so far and good luck for today, hope you are planning a quiet day tomorrow? Love the origins of your name :)

Seymore - that's a brilliant time, especially for a first 10k. I also dream of getting under an hour.

Well done everyone else and :( about the half pirate though it sounds sensible to aim for next year. I missed our inaugural local half last autumn due to another commitment and I sulked all day! Have just signed up for this year's though and am going to try and train properly and see what I can do.

Good Luck to all the 'Race for Lifers' too.

DS and I did the Colour5k in Northampton yesterday - brilliant, messy fun Enjoy yours Cardiff :)

Total now 1323.7 I think

originalpiratematerial · 22/06/2014 12:00

Aw thanks feetheart Smile.

I've done my run for the morning and managed to intersect my route with the HM route so was able to stop and cheer people on at various points.

And I saw the elite runners this morning shortly after 9 a.m. when I popped out for croissants and the paper. A sight you don't see every day! And I saw the para-athletes finish and that made me proper well up.

So with my run that takes us up to 1328.7.

emummy · 22/06/2014 13:22

1338.7 with my race for life, in a PB of 60:16! Very pleased, great day, lots of fun, hope you had a good run Sirzy

Blatherskite · 22/06/2014 14:25

Well done on your new PB emummy. That's good going in this heat.

My 1 mile potato race went well. I had to carry 10kgs of potatoes so was very happy with about 9.30 minutes - I forgot to stop my watch as I finished as I was so desperate to put the spuds down! Both of the children enjoyed their spud and spoon races too. There was loads to do there afterwards but everyone was too hot so we came home for ice cream and the paddling pool instead

emummy · 22/06/2014 14:31

Have to confess Blathers it wasn't that hot in Aberdeen! About 14 or 15 degrees I think with a nice breeze off the sea as ran along the beach road. So perfect running conditions really. Well done on your potato race, 10kg is a lot to carry! Glad the dcs had fun

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2014 14:35

21.2 hot, sweaty, slow km to make 1359.9. I think today was even slower than the HM I did in several inches of snow 2 years ago - DH and I had loads of sponsorship so we went ahead and did it even though the organisers made it an untimed "fun run". I didn't actually finish that one because they pulled us off the course at mile 12 and made us do a short cut to the finish for safety reasons. Today was all off road, through fields and very undulating.

I am officially pooped. Now have to pack and get on a train to go away for 2 days work. I am taking my swimming costume but not my trainers Grin

Blatherskite · 22/06/2014 14:36

These were our medals. DD especially is chuffed to bits that she got a mini version of Mummy's medal :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2014 14:38

Well done emummy and Blathers. Glad you got out and saw a bit of the race pirate - there's always next year!

Glad you enjoyed the Colour Run feet

Blatherskite · 22/06/2014 14:39

I can add my mile from today and the 7.2 miles that I did with Jacqueline and her daughter yesterday which is about 13.2km and takes us to 1373.1

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2014 14:41

Great medals Blathers

Today's finisher prize was a fluorescent green fleecy beanie hat. I'm sure I'll appreciate it in the winter...Hmm

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 22/06/2014 14:43

Well done runners and racers!

Potato race sounds like good fun, if exhausting Blathers.

Keep going OhOne, the end is in sight now. Grin

DS and I completed our 3K rainbow run this morning. He absolutely loved it, he didn't stop chattering all the way round. "I'm having so much fun mummy, this is brilliant, are you having fun?" etc, etc.
He has got a lovely medal to take into school tomorrow and I timed it for him. 28mins, bless.
Glad you enjoyed yours Feetheart.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, running or resting. Grin

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 22/06/2014 14:45

Ops x posts!

Total is 1376.3 now I think.
Well done OhOne!!

Blatherskite · 22/06/2014 14:45

I got to keep my 10kgs of potatoes too. Anyone got any potato recipes!!

The kids got their medal plus a bag of crisps, a big biscuit with an iced potato race logo on it, a handful of sweets and a balloon. To say it was only £2 entry fee for them, I was really impressed!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2014 14:59

Blathers - Spanish Omelette; I sometimes make Sicilian Potatoes (from memory they are cubed, and cooked in a tomato sauce with pine nuts, raisins, black olives and capers; Rumplethumps (I think that is mash with cabbage and cheese).

Cardiff - your DS sounds a sweetheart Smile

postmanpatscat · 22/06/2014 15:29

Well done runners and racers! I feel some chips coming on, blathers!

A measly 5km from me to make 1381.3 km

I am p*ssed off...I have had a week without sugar, kept under my TDEE, run twice, walked loads, not eaten my exercise calories, and lo and behold, I am 100g heavier than I was last weekend. Fab Sad

I might as well go and eat some chocolate

Blatherskite · 22/06/2014 15:33

They're nice Maris Piper ones too so would probably make good chips.

I'm fancying some Dauphinous and Rosti though

cinnamongreyhound · 22/06/2014 15:38

Well done emummy, blatherskite, ohoneohtwoohthree, cardiffuniversitynetballteam and feetheart and all the sporty children Envy.

Despite managing parkrun yesterday I don't feel like running today, so bunged up!!! I might do a slow trundle out on my own (minus dogs) when it's a bit cooler but equally as likely to sit on my bum!!

I have the wibbly wobbly log jog next Friday evening which I'm really looking forward to, my favourite race I've ever done!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/06/2014 15:40

X post postmanpatscat! Sometimes you need to eat some of your exercise calories, also week to week things change, next week could be a big loss, drink plenty of water it really helped me when I lost weight.

Morrigu · 22/06/2014 15:44

Some great runs. Well done on your parkrun pb fishandjam . Brilliant time for your 10ks seymore and emummy Sorry know I've missed loads of you.

Your ds sounds a wee gem Cardiff

Blathers I have an entire recipe book devoted to potatoes (couldn't half guess I'm from Ireland could ya). How about tortillas, rissoles, fish cakes, potato bread, potato and leek soup?? Or I would take the lazy option and just cook, mash and freeze Grin

Just a 5.5 to add from me 1381.8. Shins have been hurting the last two runs. I don't believe it's shin splints as it seems to be in the wrong place and is more a tight uncomfortable feeling than real pain iykwim. Doesn't bother me after running either. Still going to cut back and take it easier this week, start doing the strengthening exercises I had been doing and let fall by the way-side again.

originalpiratematerial · 22/06/2014 17:06

Aw I'm loving reading this thread and catching up with everyone! I've got over myself now about the HM. Our friend from church did it in 01:50 which is not bad considering he broke his arm in a bike accident on London Bridge six weeks ago Smile so we are all pleased for him.

DS1 has said he wants to start running - it would be so good for him as he currently doesn't do any sport, so am really hoping that come the autumn I can get him to start doing parkrun.

ThursdayLast · 22/06/2014 18:03

1391.8 with my hot hot hot early evening 10k

cinnamongreyhound · 22/06/2014 19:35

Dh talked me out of running :( doggy run tomorrow so may be better to rest :( :(

orangeflutie · 22/06/2014 19:53

Well done everyoneSmile I'd better add miles before this thread finishes. 4 miles this morning and already hot at 9 o'clock and 3.6 on Friday.
