I resisted signing up for longer races Morrigu because I didn't want the stress of feeling I had to train and end up not enjoying my running so I know where you're coming from. Although I do have dh to have the kids most of the time, it's more the guilt of taking that time out of my weekend or evenings for me.

originalpiratematerial · 19/06/2014 23:14

Morrigu I still feel a lot like that. My kids are older but my DS3 has severe autism and my DH has chronic osteo-arthritis and doesn't work, or take the boys out, so a lot of it devolves to me and I find it hard too. I had planned to do the Hackney half-marathon this weekend but dropped out. So, no constructive advice, but bucket loads of sympathy.

karatekimmi · 20/06/2014 06:22

morigu Would a running pushchair be an option? I run with my 2yo and we parkrun most weekends. I don't think I can do long runs init as he doesn't have the attention span, but it has helped me get out running. I've seen people with upto 5 yo in the pushchairs!!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 06:49

Sorry ladies, no running from me this morning :( my cold has properly set in and struggling to

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 06:50

Not sure what happened there!

Breathe just walking so didn't think running was a great idea. Wil

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 06:51

Arghhhhh

Will parkrun tomorrow even of it's just a pootle :)

feetheart · 20/06/2014 06:57

morrigu - that's really frustrating, hope you get a chance to get out on your own soon.
Know what you mean about feeling guilty for taking time out for yourself, possibly one of the reasons I run in the early morning before anyone else is awake but I am also an earlybird and I know that doesn't work for everyone.

Thanks for the training plan Kristina and the offer Ohone (I'll PM you on that one*)

Rest day today then Colour5k with DS tomorrow. Weather looks good, I have a map of how to get there and we are both getting excited :o

feetheart · 20/06/2014 06:59

cinnamon - sorry you are feeling rough, summer colds are the worst because it just doesn't feel fair that the weather is lovely and you feel awful. Hot whiskey? (discloses Irish roots :))

Fishandjam · 20/06/2014 07:11

Sympathies originalpirate. My mum has severe OA and had it most of the time I was growing up. It impacts family life hugely. (I also have a DS with ASD, though it's mild, so the most we get when I go for a run is an "I want mummy" strop!)

Fishandjam · 20/06/2014 07:12

cinnamon, another vote for hot whisky with lemon, honey and ginger. And paracetamol, and bed.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 07:34

I am off to London aquarium with 90 5, 6 and 7 year olds today so no chance of a rest and babysitting this evening :(
Pretty sure I caught it from one of my mindees and dh seems to have got it this morning too! Set my alarm but just didn't get up this morning.

Chopstheduck · 20/06/2014 08:08

1200.5

5k to add from me. Struggling atm though. I don't know if it is all the cycling I am doing, or the heat or what. I seem to be running too fast, and then conk out. I was running at around 7mph, which is fast for me, but had to take a walking break in the middle. Oh well, I suppose it can go down as speed training!

Hope you feel better soon, cinnamon.

feetheart · 20/06/2014 09:16

Shock cinnamon. Good luck, that really doesn't sound like a cure!

Morrigu · 20/06/2014 10:06

Oh yes hot whisky is the way ahead cinnamon. Enough of it and you'll forget you have a cold Grin Hope you feel better soon, seems to be loads of summer colds about as the dc keep coming down with them.

I had considered a running buggy karatekimmi so tried dd out by pushing her normal buggy at speed and she hated it. Think it would be wasted money. Very cautious child - doesn't even like swings.

In two minds of what to do - to just forget it as it defeats the purpose of running to relieve stress when it's stressing me out so much or to just play it by ear and see how it goes. I've learnt if I was to ever sign up to a long run again it would be before the summer when I have the parents on hand to babysit. As dad was a marathon runner he's always very accommodating with my running as he 'gets it'.

Feel a bit bad for complaining now when others have it far worse. Life really is a juggle for all of us I suppose with different issues. Sorry to hear about your dh pirate, my aunt has had that all her adult life and it's tough on her and her family.

Enjoy the colourrun feetheart. I want to take ds to the one here in August but not too sure how he would react to the dust with his asthma?

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 20/06/2014 10:23

5k from me this morning, quite overcast and muggy here.

Total is 1205.5.

Get well soon cinnamon.
DS and I are also doing a colour run this weekend feetheart, although ours is only 3K. We went and bought some cheap sunglasses from Primark yesterday so we don't get paint in our eyes!!
I am going to sign up for the Windsor women's 10K after payday this month. It's at the end of September. Is anyone else doing it, or done it before?

TessTackle · 20/06/2014 11:22

8.01 from me this morning, legs are feeling it so having a bath before I go to collect DD.

Total is 1213.51

Morrigu I feel your pain, I only run when Dd is at preschool and the 6week holidays are looming making me sad. I feel guilty running when she's at her dads and feel like I'm taking quality time away from DP if I do.

cinnamon I'll be thinking of you all day, I had that gold last week it was torture!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 17:21

I am all bibbed up and ready to go for the first of the marathon challenge runs - 5 miles this evening. We start at 7pm so hopefully it will not be too hot. Otherwise my face will match my bright pink vest by the end Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 17:22

This is the whole thing.

Blatherskite · 20/06/2014 18:09

I did 4 miles at lunchtime which leaves me with the evening free to go down to the pub from a drink with Jacqueline Millett and her daughter before they run a double marathon tomorrow Grin

That's 6.4 km for today and another 6 from Wednesday which I didn't add which makes 1225.91

originalpiratematerial · 20/06/2014 18:16

1233.25 with my 7.34 km this evening.

originalpiratematerial · 20/06/2014 18:18

Aw thanks Morrigu and fish - he's going to have a hip replacement in September, we hope, and then keyhole surgery on the other hip, so I am hopeful (although he's very pessimistic!).

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 18:36

Thanks for the well wishes! I survived the aquarium, I had a group of 6 which was quite tough to keep track of amongst all the general public. We also had over 2hrs each way on the coach. I'm now babysitting with one in bed and the other watching tv having quickly cooked my lot tea before I came out.

Moan away Morrigu, that's what we're here for!!! Don't feel bad about it, I genuinely believe everyone has their struggles and we don't really appreciate how hard it is for people sometimes as everything looks rosy on the outside for some. I do have a support dh who has the kids often when I'm out but we both have other things on and I'd actually like to see him too so it takes some juggling. I'm sure id manage on my own but I have total respect for anyone who does it and manages to have something for themselves too. We all need a pat on the back from time to time!

I think if you're pushing it there's no shame in walking Chopstheduck!! Perhaps keep the same speed and try a slow jog in the middle next time :)

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 18:37

Think I've figured my early posting, the page isn't properly loaded so my impatience means it posts as I'm writing as it loads!
