Oh no Amber! I hope your derrière recovers swiftly

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 01/05/2014 19:23

Oh no, Amber, ouch! Hope it gets better quickly!

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 19:32

Thank you Thursday - I think I might go at 8.30 so that I have less time to work myself up about it. Will only be 5k again - I can do it.

briteside · 01/05/2014 19:48

go rhonda go!! You only regret the runs you DON'T do. I often tell myself that I am just going to do 10 minutes and then head home, after 9 minutes of running I am into it and keep on going!

ouch amber hope you feel better soon, that was a good run until the injury though!

I COMPLETELY agree with those who run for a break from young kids. After DS was born, my DH offered to buy me a baby-jogger so I could go our running with him. I nearly hit the roof - It completely defeated the object of going running, if I took the baby with me!

In fact - only a mother of young children could think that killing yourself by doing a punishing run in rain/hail etc is a break from the kids Grin

I am regreting not running today (Although my hip is still aching, so it was the sensible choice). I have serious itchy feet & a short temper!

AmberNectarine · 01/05/2014 20:09

I'm a fool, should me have gone another 3k on it! Am soaking in the bath now to sooth it.

You'll be fine Rhonda, all my best times have been recorded in the evening, I think my glycogen stores are fully stocked by then!

From last night. We were both of us perturbed

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 20:55

I've been!

Third run since the leg injury last year, 5k walk/run in 37 minutes so a full minute off Monday. I left the DDs alone (14 and 9, I thought it would be ok, they're sensible, have a neighbour to go to, etc) and I think it gave me wings haha.

Thanks for the cheering on, I'm really nervous running outside, and I hate the current treadmills in our gym. I have made the massive blister worse though - any tips for blisters?

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 21:05

I love jumping those thursday! well, horse does, I just scramble over or go round if am on foot

well done Rhonda, am also doing a sort of run/walk thing but going out with the slow jogger group tomorrow (in place of today's run, which was a sweaty 30 mins on spin bike instead) they do a sort of 12:00 pace for 2, 3 or 4 miles

it will help take my mind off worrying about new horse who is just a baby, travelling all the way from Durham to Suffolk Confused tomorrow

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 21:06

I liked those compeed plaster things for blisters rhonda I liked even more not having them when I started running on roads and my feet stayed dry!

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 21:12

only ran 13 miles all month in April but cycled 74

hoping to run about 46 in May as per the injury-proofing plan, what are other people's targets?

ThursdayLast · 01/05/2014 21:27

I picked my way gingerly past. Relucto-dog scrambled over without grace Grin.

I don't really think in terms of miles per week or month, but I'm steadily working my way through a beginners HM training plan. That combined with lighter evenings means my mileage should increase this summer.

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 21:28

10 miles a week. 3 5ks and one warm up run before another type of training.

I have a photo of the blister, I've burst it (while running not deliberately) and it is huge and looks awful. Compeed it is tomorrow.

The rest of me feels goooooood. My aim is to be able to run the full 5k without stopping by the 12th June is that possible? I think I had a similar injury to yours but mines went like a gunshot while kickboxing, I had to go to a and e and had an emergency nhs Physio referral (which shocked me)

LostMyPants · 01/05/2014 21:33

Ooo a monthly target, what a genius idea! I'm going for 21km :) Up on my 0km in March and less than 7km in April!

Well done, Rhonda. Take it easy if you need to, Amber.

DH is impressed at me running so often. He doesn't quite get the whole 'getting away' thing like you lot do!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/05/2014 21:33

I don't aim for a certain number of miles either, usually somewhere between 18 and 26 miles a week.

If we're sharing gruesome photos here's my knee a week on!

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 21:36

I was on a thread before I hurt my leg where we set a thread target for the month -x miles between everyone. Anyone fancy doing that?

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 21:44

ow cinnamon and OUCH Rhonda, that sounds horrific (mine was only a gradual overuse thing)

a group total would be great - it could be time or distance or calories burned or anything really?

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 21:48

Yes - anything at all - but it did spur me on, I didn't want to let the team down.

My leg is absolutely fine now, it feels a bit weak sometimes but apparently it's not an injury which is likely to reoccur, so hopefully you will be the same.

ThursdayLast · 01/05/2014 21:53

Good god cinnamon that is one colourful knee!

I'm willing to add my numbers to a group thing

Sirzy · 01/05/2014 22:00

that sounds good rhonda!

I like that idea too, Rhonda - this thread moves so fast we could do a 'how quickly can we log 500 miles?' challenge - we'd do it in no time I reckon.

Mitchy I hope your new baby arrives ok. Just think of the distances racehorses travel every week in lorries - they all seem to arrive fine. Once he is safely arrived I will tell you the story of a young horse I once had delivered to Lancaster from Inverness……….

Have just seen in my local paper there's a fun run on Bank Holiday Monday of 5.2 miles. Tempted but can't find any previous race results so don't know if it will all be lycra-clad whippets or if there'll be some other old carthorses like me lumbering round Hmm

originalpiratematerial · 01/05/2014 22:46

Oh yes that would be good, I'd happily do a group challenge like that.

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 22:54

is it going to be a scary story? Grin definitely save it until Saturday (she is probably going to arrive late tomorrow afternoon/night)

will be v interested to see how quickly we log 500 miles, do we start from today?

LostMyPants · 01/05/2014 23:13

Shall we start tomorrow? Anyone checking in with a run adds their miles to the current total.

So we are currently at 0 miles

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 23:13

500 miles sounds like a good challenge.

It really does make you go out ehen you really don't feel like it, just wait and see.

I'll trry to post my blister from work tomorrow, not worked out photos on iPad yet.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/05/2014 06:02

I'll be in the group challenge, through today is rest day, I plan to ru. every day of the weekend Smile
