Checking in :)

Lovely run this morning but very odd feeling, strange light and very damp air! We've put the world to rights, if only we could actually transfer it to the world! I'm having an emotional morning so ignore me! And sorry to only just answer your question OhOneOhTwoOhThree, I am edging towards St Neots but haven't actually decided yet! Am
I crazy to consider both?

Sirzy · 01/05/2014 07:41

Thanks cq! That's my biggest challenge trying to pace myself!

Ooh CQ that looks perfect. That is the weekend of half term isn't it. We are away that week, but back on the Friday. Wonder if I would be mad to consider it. I might be able to squeeze in one run while we are away, and we are only away for 5 nights.

cinnamongreyhound I had wondered that - you have plenty of experience, surely you could manage both.

I landed a bit awkward on Sunday jumping a humped grass verge and pulled a muscle in my ankle. Seems to be bearing up to shorter runs and healing. Did 4 miles this morning and it was fine, now icing it. Hopefuly I can do a longer run on Sunday, I so didn't want to turn in after 4, even though it is damp and miserable out.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 01/05/2014 09:27

Just got back in this morning from a nice long, slow run in the drizzly greyness.
I like the look of the Marlow run too CQ and Chops, it's not far from me either. But I have signed up for the Whipsnade 10K which is near my mum's house and is the following weekend. So maybe next year!

pootlebug · 01/05/2014 09:27

Wow, 80 posts already and I've only just seen the new thread.

Sirzy - I can sympathise totally on the lack-of-motivation-at-just-the-wrong-time thing. Today and yesterday have been good, but the week or so prior to that was rubbish for one reason and another (non-sleeping child, ill-advised evening of drinking, wrong weather at the wrong time, sheer laziness etc) and my training really slipped.....with 2.5 weeks til my first triathlon. I have got myself back on track with a new 10-week training plan - won't really help so much with the first one but since the others are in 7.5 weeks, 10.5 weeks, 13 weeks or something it should help with the later ones.

Rhonda - I have swimming, biking and running to fit in. Everything I've read suggests that rest days are a must, so I do two sports in one day sometimes, but have 1-2 rest days per week where I don't do anything at all.

RunningLou - really hope the Osteo has something positive to say and you're running again soon. All the other stuff should keep the fitness up in the meantime.

Am following the training plan pretty religiously, so this morning was 5 mins warm up, 5 mins heel kicks and high legs interspersed with jogs, 25 minutes tempo run, 5 mins cool down. I am glad I got out whilst it was just drizzling as it is peeing it down now!

TessTackle · 01/05/2014 09:55

I want to ruuuunnnnn :( :(

Been struck down with D&V for 48 hours, thought I was feeling better this morning but no. Was really excited to run in the rain (it's me favourite) but looks like I'll only have managed to get out once this week. I'm never going to lose any bloody weight at this rate!

Mitchy1nge · 01/05/2014 10:45

sympathies all round where wanted Flowers

my achilles is the most annoying aspect of a really irritating existence in general at the moment so planning a mildly 'urban' route for today's run/walk - bridleways in town are lovely and flat compared to ours and the fields are less churned up. I just can't remember how various of the routes break down into distances.

vladthedisorganised · 01/05/2014 10:59

Checking in as finally back to running!
Three weeks banned from exercise after an operation (boo), then struck down with D&V for 48 hours on the day my ban was up, so circuit training for me today and hopefully a nice easy run on Saturday. Much sympathy Tess - everything, including climbing the stairs, really floored me this week, so no idea how I'll go once I'm finally out on the pavements again. Apparently you only lose muscle memory after 10 weeks though, so there may be hope..

HM training starts on Monday in earnest. I suspect I have been wise to make my goal 'get around the course' rather than 'acheive a PB' - if I make it to the finish line at all it will be a PB anyway!

HalloumiToastie · 01/05/2014 11:34

Not sure if this has been covered on this thread but how soon did any of you return to running after having a baby?

I'm 4.5 months on and still don't feel up to it. Don't leak much Blush but have a kind of bruising sensation. I am slowly going crazy not being able to get out for a run.

CQ · 01/05/2014 11:55

Gosh, Halloumi I think it was about 4.5 years before I even felt organised enough to run again! I have no relevant advice other than if it hurts, stop. Hopefully some other more dedicated runners will have bounced back quicker than me and can help!

Chops I think just 1 run in the week before a 10k will be ample - and you'll be well rested. Cardiff you can always come and cheer us on - Marlow's lovely for a day out!

Right, I'm def going to do it. I need another training goal. Will be slow but I know I can get round.

Vlad welcome back - take it easy on your recovery - plenty of good food, rest and hydration too.

ThursdayLast · 01/05/2014 11:56

Oh I was v naughty halloumi, I was gently jogging about 6 weeks after an EMCS Shock
But I felt completely well (well, relatively) and my desperation to run outweighed any other concerns.
Listen to your body, it will tell you when it's ready.
Can you go for a walk? I find going for walk in prepared-to-run clothes helpful, you can just do a few small jogging intervals as you go along.

HalloumiToastie · 01/05/2014 14:27

Thanks CQ and Thurs. Two very different timescales there! 6 weeks after an EMCS is astonishing. Have walked a little and done the odd cycle ride but it's just not the same. Will give it to six months and then maybe pester the GP again about the pain. It's only when I jump/run. Thanks again. Will be lurking this thread constantly now I've found it :-)

briteside · 01/05/2014 15:42

hello all, I woke up with a really stiff hip - think I might have overdone some strength training I did yesterday. (Well - all I did was some planks, lunges & squats...but that is alot for me!). My sore hip, together with the pouring rain, convinced me to skip my lunchtime run. Really annoying, but I will be back tomorrow....

So sorry for those of you you are also not able to run today (Or this week...) and I hope that D&V bugs, sore achilles and the other injuries all clear up soon.

halloumi I probably waited about 5 months before running properly again. I had a huge huge little bit of weight to lose after the birth and focused on that before taking up running again. I started exactly as thursday suggested and walked first, then as my walking got boring, I added in some jogs. It was really only after I finished breastfeeding at around 10 months that I got fully into running again, my joints (Especially my hips) felt sort of odd before then and I was nervous to push myself. Sorry that doesn't help!

Sonia O Sullivan rather famously went back to running 10 days after giving birth...now THAT is dedication! Shock

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 01/05/2014 16:44

Halloumi, I've only really started running seriously in the past 5-6 weeks, and my DTDs are 3 in August! Blush Better late then never! Though I think I would have been physically capable maybe 6-7 weeks after my ELCS, I was far too knackered to contemplate it.

Well, today I'm doing a fast day, and after weights training, which went fine, I ran 10kms in 64 mins, a bit slower than previously and my goodness was it tough! Not so sure I want to do that again! A fasted 5kms is one thing, but 10kms another thing entirely! Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 01/05/2014 16:50

I'm not that experienced Chopstheduck! I've done 2 hm and three 10k's.

I didn't run at all in my life until my youngest was 16 months HalloumiToastie, so can't really help. A club mate of mine was back dead on the 6 week mark but no further than a mile per run, I agree you should trust your body.

Sirzy · 01/05/2014 17:32

Right dissertion in so other than one exam uni is done. From tomorrow concentrating on getting myself ready for this race :)

LostMyPants · 01/05/2014 17:58

I've just taken up running out doors 8months after my ELCS. Was in the gym about 5 months after.

Did 2.4k today in 15 min. Aiming to run this twice a week and will up the distance after i manage to ditch the 100m of walking I'm currently having to do.

Weighed myself this week and I'm 61kg. This is the least I've weighed in 5 years, possibly the least I've weighed ever! I had an inkling i was getting lighter as my wedding ring is now too big.

emummy · 01/05/2014 18:05

Lovely 7k this am, quite fast by my standards! Looking forward to boot camp tomorrow and a 10k over the weekend. Very impressed by anyone taking up running after babies - I started last year when my youngest was 4!

LostMyPants · 01/05/2014 18:09

It's about the only way to get out of the house without them, emummy and I'll go completely insane if I don't get a break!

I had pelvic pain that hung around after the birth. It seems to be improving the more exercise i do though.

Sirzy · 01/05/2014 18:10

That's great lostmypants

DS was 4 when I started too

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 18:37

I'm planning to go out run again later tonight, about 9.30, but I am crapping myself a bit...encouragement please?!

AmberNectarine · 01/05/2014 19:09

Ran home from work this eve and have pulled a muscle in my bum! 10.5 in 73 mins which I wasn't too disappointed about as I run through C Lon (down Strand, Mall, Kings Rd) so factoring in tourist-dodging, traffic light stops (so many) and a bit of limping time post injury it could have been worse.

ThursdayLast · 01/05/2014 19:10

lostmypants you are speaking my language!
If you're 2miles away, you can't hear them Grin!

ThursdayLast · 01/05/2014 19:11

Rhonda! Go! You will be fab and you will FEEL fab after.
Think of the post run high (and the allowed carbs Grin)
