Gosh lots of posts since this morning!

Hello Emsie

Well done Eau and Fish! Creme egg in the goodie bag sounds excellent too.

DeterminedMama, in answer to your questions:

  • I wasn't very confident in my ability when I started. Nor was I confident I didn't look a complete tit, although tbh I'm often not confident I don't look a complete tit....not just for running. And even though I'm lots fitter than when I started I still go red and look like crap when I push myself.
  • Turning point for me was when I really felt the aerobic fitness kick in. So although my knees might be saying 'enough', I wasn't so out of breath I was desperate to stop, iyswim? So increasing distances from 5km to 10km+ wasn't such a big deal. Probably helped by swimming and cycling too in my case.

Iamnotdarling - I agree with Fish, do the trainers sooner rather than later. It might help avoid injury and will make you much comfier.

Well done Polka! It sounds like you'll be racing around the 5km with no walking in no time!

Roquefort - great time and sounds really fun - make sure you really enjoy that chocolate now!

I am applying for a marathon place tomorrow. Blimey....there's a sentence i couldn't have imagined typing 6 months ago.

originalpiratematerial · 21/04/2014 21:43

I think I felt like a runner when I started to be able to run 5k with reasonable ease (I don't mean 5k races, just running on my own).

Blatherskite · 21/04/2014 22:34

Thank you for the stern words everyone. You're all right, I shouldn't compare myself to much more experienced runners. Looking back at the results now, I was 14th out of 31 runners (so top 50%) and 4th woman. I was less than 6 minutes behind the 1st woman too!

Not so bad all in all and yes, much better than the 90% of the population who never bother :)

Trying to decide whether to apply for London and hope I don't get in or properly stick to my 'I will never do a marathon' promise now. Does it have to be done at midnight?

DeterminedMama · 21/04/2014 22:38

Thanks for all the replies! I went for another run today and am determined to get to the stage where I don't care who sees me. Hiding in the backstreets works ok for the shorter distances I'm currently doing but will get bor

DeterminedMama · 21/04/2014 22:38

Oops pressed send too soon! Will get boring if I don't mix it up.

Good luck to those entering the ballot!

zombiesheep · 21/04/2014 22:47

Not sure whether to apply for the marathon tonight!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/04/2014 23:01

No it doesn't blatherskite, I believe the ballot closes when it gets to 125,000 entrants Shock

Fishandjam · 21/04/2014 23:03

Marathon? I should fucking coco.

However, I will venture a 10k in June. Any other Huntingdonshireites fancy it? Alconbury airfield.

Sheesh I'm tired. Night all!

Blatherskite · 22/04/2014 00:42

Oh good grief I just entered the ballot!

Actually scared I might get in...

EauRouge · 22/04/2014 02:45

We're such a bad influence Grin I've entered the ballot, took me a few goes to get through. I expect it's full by now.

feetheart · 22/04/2014 07:19

Not full yet as just entered Shock Shock
You lot a Very Bad Influence :)

Just about to head out on a murky 3.5 miles to wake me up after a bad night's sleep - kill or cure I think!

Chopstheduck · 22/04/2014 07:33

I've applied too, must be nuts as I've never run more than 10 miles!!

Good luck to everyone entering :)

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2014 07:43

Hi chopstheduck!!!! Long time no see :)

Chopstheduck · 22/04/2014 07:44

Hey cinnamongreyhound! Grin

How are you?

Sirzy · 22/04/2014 08:02

eek I have entered the ballot. Must be mad!

OP posts:
Fishandjam · 22/04/2014 08:17

Yes. You are all certifiable!

lazypepper · 22/04/2014 08:23

I have just entered the ballot too.

This must be my fifth time - so perhaps I will get lucky ?

Chopstheduck · 22/04/2014 08:26

If I don't get in, I'm going to do Reading instead. Fingers crossed though!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/04/2014 09:09

I'm good thanks, still 5st lighter and now running up to half marathons, you?

Blatherskite · 22/04/2014 09:15

Given how much I seem to hate half marathons - or is that how much they hate me? - I am definitely certifiable!

If I don't get in, I am going to breathe a huge sigh of relief and wear my free training top in shame Wink

lazypepper isn't it guaranteed entry if you've tried more than 4 times or am I imagining that?

KristinaM · 22/04/2014 09:31

Blathers -4th women is very impressive Smile

lazypepper · 22/04/2014 09:32

Blathers I did think so. But me and a friend have both entered more than 4 times and been rejected. I think it is very popular :)

superbaghag · 22/04/2014 09:34

Just wanted to say hello.

Week 2 of c25k and enjoying it so far.

Have been suffering from GAD and found solace in food Hmm. 20 lbs later and 4 months not moving from the sofa I'm a mess.

By summer I will be fit AND fit in my clothes.

Good luck to those entering the ballot

newdayandmorenewpants · 22/04/2014 09:51

Can I join? I'm sat here at my desk with a heat pack on my Achilles Sad. I went out for just a steady jog yesterday but it felt wrong the whole way round. The bottom of my back felt tight and whether I was compensating for that and running 'funny' I don't know but by the time I'd got home and had a shower I was hobbling and today is worse. So it looks like I'm out for a while.

I'd just started to get my mojo back as well having well and truly lost it. I did the GNR 2013 and didn't get the feeling of satisfaction I thought I would having just run my first 1/2. So I signed up for the Bath 1/2 but by then I'd totally fallen out of love with running and pulled out. At least I have a reserved place for next year so I can make my mind up closer to the time.

I've been plagued with niggles for the last 6 months also, despite having my gait analysed and wearing the right trainers. My glutes are really tight and my quads which make my feet go numb after 2 or 3 miles although it has been possible to run in spite of that. And just as all the stretching was starting to pay off and the numbness was getting less, this happens Sad.

Ah well, better to rest it now than keep running on it and being out for even longer (done that one before, not clever).

Glad to be on board with you all, reading this thread usually motivates me to go out running if I'm procrastinating Grin

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 22/04/2014 09:55

Fishandjam I live in St Ives! I was going to enter the St Ives 10k, but may do the Huntingdon one also Smile
