That sounds very tiresome new day. Are you seeing a physio?

Fishandjam · 22/04/2014 09:57

Yay degustibus! I'm just up the road near Warboys. When is the St Ives 10k? I didn't even know there was one Blush

EauRouge · 22/04/2014 10:24

I have a flyer for the St Ives one right in front of me Grin It's on the 20th July. I won't be doing that, I'm doing the Fen Drayton one in a couple of weeks and that'll be it for me until the Wolf Run in Sept.

So, if you're in St Ives when are you meeting us for coffee and cake?

Welcome superbag, glad you're enjoying C25k. It does really work! You'll be running 5k by the summer, no problem.

Hello, newday, hope your achilles is better soon. I'm injured too and need to rest for a couple of weeks before attempting to run again.

Sirzy · 22/04/2014 10:35

hello Superbag and newday.

I am jealous of people living in St Ives I love it down there.

I have my dissertaion in next week so not really able to go running until its done. On final proof read today so hopefully will be on top of it enough to go out thursday. But I need to run especially with this 10k in 3 weeks.

I don't think I'm thinking of the same St Ives here...

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 22/04/2014 10:49

Morning all. Good luck, I think(!), to all those in the ballot for London.
I went out after dropping DS at school this morning. It was quite damp and slippery so I spent most of the run terrified I was going to stack it! Made it back in one piece though!
I was looking online earlier at my local Sweatshop running club. They run 5K once a week. I might try and pluck up the courage to go along next week. I get quite nervous meeting new people though. BlushBlush

Blatherskite · 22/04/2014 10:51

VLM 2015 ballot is closed already! Just the wait until October to go now...

I really enjoy my local SRC runs Cardiff. They're good fun and once you've done 5, they'll give you a free t-shirt - or put you on the waiting list for one at my store! I've done 3 now so nearly there. The times are difficult for me so I don't get to go very often.

EauRouge · 22/04/2014 10:52

Not the Cornish St Ives, the Cambridgeshire St Ives. The Cambridgeshire one will be next to the sea in a couple of decades when climate change causes the sea level to rise.

Just got my Women's Running mag through the post, once again it is pink and has headlines like 'slim and sexy' on it. Will be cancelling my subscription Hmm

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 22/04/2014 10:52

Coffee (well, tea!) & cake sounds great (then run it off Wink )

Sirzy · 22/04/2014 10:55

I didn't realise there was more than one st ives. Shows how bad my geography is!

Didn't take long for the ballot to fill!

PollyWhittaker · 22/04/2014 11:42

Hello. Good luck to everyone in the ballot.

I am here to be proud of myself because after lots of problems being able to run after DS was born (wonky pelvis followed by a year of really painful plantar fasciitis) I started very slowly and carefully doing C25k last November and I ran 5k for the first time in 3 years today. Now I need to start working on my speed. Short term goal is a 35 minute 5k ( it took 40 minutes today). Long term goal is a 50 minute 10k. Resolution is never ever to be tempted into running further than 10k and to remember than my feet and pelvis floor will make my life miserable if I try.

newdayandmorenewpants · 22/04/2014 11:55

Fishandjam I do have a physio that I've seen a couple of times but not regularly. I think I'm going to have to commit to spending some money on getting myself sorted.

I have been on Google and as well as problems with my Achilles I now obviously have myriad other self-diagnosed ailments Grin and it looks like it's not my tendon but more the soft tissue either side of my heel bone. So whether I was running hard on that heel because of my back... who knows. Remedy is still the same; Ibuprofen, rest and heat. On the plus side, if it's not my tendon I should be back out sooner rather than later.

I think everyone entering a full marathon is very brave, I'm just not sure I have it in me to do one, let alone commit to the training involved. It was the training for the second 1/2 that killed my running-bug, began to dread going out for a run. Which is arse because it's going out running that helps me clear my head and I always come back in a better mood than when I left and have usually plotted DP's demise in several different ways Grin.

newdayandmorenewpants · 22/04/2014 12:01

EauRouge what do you do to keep yourself ticking over when you're not running? I do 30DS but I don't have anything else that I can get the same out of breathness from as I do from running.

Got my WR mag on Saturday - I get what you mean with the "women only run to lose weight" (although that is a great side effect Smile) message that it seems to purport on the front. Although when you get inside it doesn't come across like that. Perhaps they're trying to encourage new readers?

Sirzy · 22/04/2014 12:10

That's great Polly

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 22/04/2014 12:11

I've just got my WR too. Apart from the pink and skinny bits, I'm looking forward to reading the foam roller article. I know I should probably get one but I have no idea what I'd do with it or how it'd help!

ThursdayConsuelaLast · 22/04/2014 12:26

Polly, that is a hell of an achievement. I hope you feel suitably proud.

I'm still on enforced relaxation, boo. Stupid knee. Daren't push too hard.

briteside · 22/04/2014 14:33

Hello! I am back after a fab Easter Holiday. I did not do very well on eating healthy but did manage a few runs. It was my first time tackling any real hills, which was an...er...um...experience! They definitely got easier towards the end of the holiday.

Welcome Polly!

Well done everyone on their entry to the London Marathon Ballot (and other Marathon entries.) I missed the chance to get into the LM Ballot before it was filled but think that it is not a bad thing.

I am ITCHING to go for a run...no run yesterday due to a drive-from-hell to get home and no run today as it is my DD's birthday...I need to run off some of the Easter Eggs!

briteside · 22/04/2014 14:33

thursday hope your knee gets better quickly. Can you do any low impact exercise to tide you over? Some swimming maybe?

HalleLouja · 22/04/2014 14:38

I have been off on holiday but back now. Had some fab runs by the beach. It was nice running somewhere new.

I see this thread is going at a million miles per hour but will try to keep up.

HalleLouja · 22/04/2014 14:39

Have also taken to new routes round and about where I am. Yesterday's run wasn't great but thinking of going off today. Though might put it off to tomorrow as yesterday really wasn't great and maybe a rest day will help clutches at straws.

briteside · 22/04/2014 14:45

HalleLouja lol I know the feeling, this thread moves much faster than I can Grin

I also love new routes, it seems easier to increase the distances when there are new things to look at. I am jealous of your beachside runs...

I do find that a rest day helps get some mojo back, 2 days is normally enough to make me desperate to get out there again!

superbaghag · 22/04/2014 15:13

Today's run was easier which is great as my area is v hilly so it's been a difficult start but my back is hurting. A dull throw on the lower left side :( not die out again until Thursday or Friday and really hope it's better by then

Sirzy · 22/04/2014 15:14

We need a running board rather than just a thread at this rate!

A couple of days of not running and I am itching to get out. I am considering phoning my sister to have DS for half an hour so I can try to run - I wasn't going out today but I am at that point where I NEED to run!

OP posts:
yegodsandlittlefishes · 22/04/2014 15:33

You mean to tell us that you're not keeping a spreadsheet updated, Sirzy? Grin

Chopstheduck · 22/04/2014 16:02

I had a nice 4.5 mile run around virginia water today. Need to get out of my habitual 3-4 mile run round the block if I am going to start increasing distance again.

Not even had chance to open my WR yet.

I'm pretty confident in being able to run longer distances again, but I don't want to give up on my strength training and gym classes, so I'm going to have to find a way that I can balance doing both without collapsing!
