Star chart sounds good fish! Wine and pizza are my usual rewards. Grin

Mitch, am jealous of your cycling- I cannot ride a bike Blush but often wish I could. Feel too old to start now and my balance is atrocious!

Blathers I like the sound of your half, sometimes find big races a bit overwhelming.

Polka I am in a small inland town beginning with L! Sounds like your town is a bit bigger if I am thinking of the right one?

PolkaSpottyDotty · 16/04/2014 21:35

Yes, you probably are thinking of the right place. The seaside dump :)

Your town is beautiful with a ruined priory? And DH has told me we are a lot further away! I'm not sure if my rubbish perception of distance is a good thing or not Grin

roquefortlover · 16/04/2014 21:38

Yes that is my town! It is a lovely place for running albeit rather undulating.

I have done a pre-Xmas 5 K in your town ( I think! )the last couple of years, was a lovely friendly event and so nice to run along seafront.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 16/04/2014 21:44

My race for life 5k is on the seafront. I live at the top of a hill away from the beach - I keep telling myself it's good endurance training!!

We should have a pre-race Team Brighton meet up.

roquefortlover · 16/04/2014 21:55

Ooh I have never met any other mumsnetters in real life! Yes that sounds good! I wonder if we will attract any others to join us Grin

Blatherskite · 16/04/2014 21:58

The best bit about this half roque is not only that it's small but that it's local and it's the team I help out with a lot when they run marathons so I should know pretty much everyone there. It's hopefully going to be like a social with some running thrown in :)

PolkaSpottyDotty · 16/04/2014 21:59

That sounds like my kind of running Blatherskite

Can I put Wine in my water bottle?!

roquefortlover · 16/04/2014 22:04

How lovely blathers. It is my running club's 10k on Monday which should be similar, loads of people I know. And a few male acquaintances who I would really like to beat Grin!

Blatherskite · 16/04/2014 22:07

It has been known for there to be G&T on the refreshments table and for runners to grab mouth fulls of the RD's pint on the way round at some of the marathons they run. We pass a pub every 5k or so too Grin

roquefortlover · 16/04/2014 22:24

Wow! Only tea and cakes at my 10k! Which reminds me that I have promised to make flapjack and parkin.

Bapple · 16/04/2014 22:40

Hi all - been following these threads for ages, it's my inspiration to get my trainers on on days when I feel I can't be bothered to go for a run.

Question: if you have a continuing shin pain that you suspect may a stress response/possible fracture would you go to your GP or a physio?

I have been running for two years and have done a couple half marathons and 10ks but consistently get a pain in my inner shin when my mileage goes past 6 miles even after a few weeks of rest/until build up.

Sirzy · 17/04/2014 06:16

Hi bapple I would probably go to the GP, or even the local minor injuries if they have x ray. Hope it's ok

Oh dear! I'm afraid I had a little bit of runner's rage at DH last night Blush - I was in my gear all ready to head out & he was late cycling home! Still managed a 22 min 4 kms though so better than nothing (& was a much happier me when I got back) Grin

MelanieCheeks · 17/04/2014 08:12

Mmmm, looks dry outside, and I have the day off work. So I'll start with a run :-)

CQ · 17/04/2014 08:14

Beautiful morning here in Oxfordshire - I was super motivated, woke up early and put my running gear straight on, did the chickens, drank some water. Should have headed straight out then with the dogs, but was gasping for a cup of tea - and now here I am sat at the computer on MN.

I will go, I will go, I WILL go. Just need to finish my tea.

EauRouge · 17/04/2014 08:45

No running for me today. You know those days where everything possible goes wrong? That's today.

But on the plus side, I got a new rowing machine for my birthday and it arrived last night so I will crack on with that.

Get going, CQ! It is a beautiful day, I'm so gutted that I'm not out running.

CQ · 17/04/2014 08:57

Oh god, I'm still here. To be fair, I have done some online banking stuff.

and posted on a few random threads

Hope you like the rowing machine, Eau, we have one - it's great for when you can't get out of the house if you've small kids etc - and for a change from running to minimise injuries.

Ok, I'm really going now.

pootlebug · 17/04/2014 09:01

Go, go, go, CQ!!!!! Hopefully you're already out running.

It's a lovely morning here but I have 3 small people and the early-morning-before-DH-leaves-for-work slot was taken up by a bike ride. Hoping DH gets home from work in time for me to sneak out running before it gets dark or I get too hungry for my dinner! I went out for a quick run last night whilst he cooked. Only 4km due to danger of overcooked dinner but it was a beautiful evening to be out.

pootlebug · 17/04/2014 09:01

Cross posted. Really, go NOW!!!!

roquefortlover · 17/04/2014 09:14

Yes go CQ! I need to do a 1 hr 20 min run later as part of HM training, DH is off work so it should be easy to get out but all too often the day slips away.....
Liking the sound of the rowing machine. I have a treadmill which is really useful for when DH is away and means I have zero excuse not to run but would like something cross trainery too

Bapple you could try a sports massage with a physio for your shins too? I had one a while ago when I had persistent glute pain and it was very helpful.

Hope everyone gets to enjoy this lovely sunny day even if not running!

Fishandjam · 17/04/2014 09:19

bapple, I'm recovering from severe shin pain and I saw a physio. GP just told me to rest it and take up cycling instead of running Hmm. Physio was very good, though I saw a specialist sports one.

EauRouge · 17/04/2014 09:23

Rowing machine plans abandoned, DH has just walked in the door and announced he's going to work from home this morning so I can go for a run. He's very close to earning the Husband of the Year award Grin I'm offski!

PolkaSpottyDotty · 17/04/2014 09:24

Can I share my post-run high!!!

Couch to 5k in 10 runs!!! I wasn't running 4 weeks ago :)

I've done 5k this morning in 38 minutes :) admittedly I was run-walk-run and did c25k wk4 day 2 followed by my own jog to extend the distance, but... I DID IT!!!!!!

Sirzy · 17/04/2014 09:27

3k done this morning in just over 20 minutes. Looking foward to DS being back t pre-school next week so I can fit in some longer runs

Eau, glad you have managed to get out!

Polka that is fantastic. I do a lot of run/walk/run but at least I am moving and getting faster. Managed a continuous 7 min run this morning which is my best so far normally its about 5 mins run 2 mins walk at the moment
