Ah ha, got ya Wheely and Futurity

Thanks. I wonder who the other one is!

Wheelybug · 18/12/2011 23:06

It's mrswednesday bonkers.

Debi - it was pretty early this year I think. I entered the GSR at end of march and must have known by then I think.

stickyLFDTfingers · 18/12/2011 23:23

hello! No running here, but lots of walking and eating in pubs. What a gorgeous day.

Great time fanny you must be chuffed! You do well not having to eat on the way. After 6/7 miles I always seem to have a real "drop", then once I've had the gel, it's like Popeye and I'm all ready to go again. I wonder how much of it's mental rather than physical though.

You too ibby, especially racing on the ice, very hardcore.

I had a olive oil infused baby too. She still has very sensitive skin, bad in this weather too (was awful in the cold in Germany, poor little thing). I love rubbing it into her skin though.

bonkersLFDT20 · 19/12/2011 07:42

Who's MrsWednesday [haven't had my morning tea yet, still a bit fuzzy in the head emoticon]?

rhetorician · 19/12/2011 08:45

arse, feck...running morning, but (a) it is PISSING with rain I mean pouring and (b) I think we need to take DD2 to the doc with her cold - her breathing is very noisy and whilst I think it's just congestion (no temp, eating fine) she is so tiny that I'd rather check...

I might get to the gym for a bit later on, all being well and will have to do my longer run later in the week...

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 09:38

Morning all, bit absent at the mo - ds3 has the most awful hacking cough so we're having sleepless nights. Unfortunately I think we just have to sit this one out, he doesn't seem to have any kind of infection, he's just generally poorly. And we of course are expecting the gift of his cough and cold this Christmas!

Did manage my 6-7 miles yesterday but had to walk quite a bit due to unexpected ice Sad.

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 09:46

Poor DS3 monkey. Sad. Hope he's better soon. I always panic Christmas week that we'll get ill. I remember a lot of people being floored about 3 years back with that flu virus.

rhet Angry at rain. Hope you get out later. Do your intervals at the gym - start pushing yourself m'lady out your comfort zone, you are ready for it!

Need to rest today then hill training tomorrow. 1500ft of hills in 6 miles, NOT looking forward to it. I think because majority of my runs are hard, when I do a LSR it's a relief iykwim? However my fitness improving massively by doing 4 very good quality hard runs a week. I'm just not sure what I should be aiming to do a marathon in. If I did 20 miles at 8.56m/m and could manage a 7.40m/m at final mile, what should I be looking at? I think I can do better than a sub 4hr. Was thinking 3.45 but anyone who's doing a marathon give me some advice?

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 09:54

fanny it sounds like you run at exactly the same pace as a friend of mine, she finished her marathon in 3.49 - but that was London which on the plus side is flat, on the minus side is really crowded. I should think 3.45 is a good realistic target.

rhetorician · 19/12/2011 09:58

about to go - DD2 going to doc at 11.50 - not sure if this comes under 2 week check or not. Spent 160? on effing doctors this month so far Angry

fanny I think you'd be on target for sub-4, perhaps not 3.45, but certainly under 4 at least according to the macmillan pace calculator here - you'd probably do a bit faster than the time predicted there - which is 3.57.

Right, still pissing and great big clouds coming over (I love the rainfall radar) so into my shorts and off to the gym...I do so want to get back to regular running - I fantasize about running Blush and keep thinking about running a marathon - despite my pathetic mileage at the moment

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 10:31

Thanks rhet and monkey - monkey was that your friends first marathon? Luckily I've 5 months before marathon with 2 (maybe 3) HM's before it so I'm thinking if I can train injury free really well, I may get that 3.45 to 3.50 however sub 4 would be great. I aim to get to 24-26 miles in training before friend goes to Perth so will know more by end of Feb what I'm capable of in last 10k.

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 10:32

rhet Angry at doctor fees. Hope DD1 ok. Best to get her checked.

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 10:48

Yes fanny, was the VLM this year - first one.

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 10:57

Did she train really well and how far did she go in training...?!

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 11:02

Yes, I'd say she works hard - lots of hills, and speedwork from what I could tell. She's always been a good runner, bit older than me (mid-40s) - had just never done a marathon and always wanted to.

fannybanjo · 19/12/2011 11:03

Good so I'm going in right direction... Grin

orangeLFDThead · 19/12/2011 11:12

Hope dd2 gets on ok at docs rhet, its worrying when they so young. Thats awful about docotors fees, but best to get her seen. I also am fantasizing about running.
Monkey hope ds3 feels better soon too and you all remain germ free for christmas.
Been to docs this morning, have a chest infection and eye infection. So got abs, different inhaler and eye drops. I was about to complain about prescription charges but will zip my mouth after rhets doc charges. So hopefully that should all kick in in a few days and might be able to try some light excerise Smile.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 19/12/2011 11:29

Congratulations on the Turkey Trot Ibby, sounds fun.

Hope DD2 is OK at the drs Rhet, doctors fees are awful. Seem like quite a few people ill, hope everyone feels better soon.

This thread moves very fast! My phone is away at the insurer's being fixed atm so struggling to keep up but will try.

Went out for 3.18 miles last night, plotted a route with slightly less of a hideous climb (although still over 500ft according to walkjogrun.net) and managed it in 40.06, so (just) better than previous and only took a couple of very short walking breaks so feeling very pleased with myself.

DebiTheScot · 19/12/2011 11:38

monkey my boys had awful coughs for 3-4 weeks but weren't ill at all. They were just grumpy because they were tired from not sleeping so well. Neither had a temp but both had chest infections so maybe you should take your ds to doc.

rhet hope doc can give you something or suggest something. If it is just bad congestion olbus oil in boiling water in a bowl in the room is good.

I've got 3 child free hours and am meant to be packing for going to Scotland (haha I put a space after the s instead of a c and phone corrected the rest to Orlando!) but so far I've lugged 6 HUGE logs into my car and been for a nice 4.30mile, 8.50m/m run.
It was mostly offroad along a river. Nice as I wouldn't go that way on my normal dark runs.
And my shins seem better when I try and use my forefoot more.

^rhet* I know what you mean about dreaming about running. I don't run nearly as much as you but had visions of becoming an ultra-runner after reading Born to Run Grin

sfxmum · 19/12/2011 11:49

sympathies to those with poorly children
I am frantically trying to catch up with chores and study after been out for the count Fri&Sat, dd still at school thankfully

out with Dh tonight, hurrah, not much of that this past year

happy running for those who can

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 19/12/2011 11:51

Morning

Well done fanny on your 20 miler, sounds like you are in a really good place for your marathon

Rhet and monkey sorry to hear of unwellness . Rhet those medical fees are high - do they have medical insurance schemes like in the USA?( sorry I'm an ignoramus)

Had lovely 5.05 miles yesterday without too many problems. Slightly marred by the fact I spent most of the night chucking up again Sad. Am starting to think there's something wrong here as it's the third bug I've had this winter albeit ds was ill last week too.

I've also had a really weird side effect ....due to force of sick I've burst loads of blood vessels on my eyelids , below eyes and in a big patch on my neck! I now look like Natalie portman in black swan when she goes loopy! Really hope it goes by tomorrow. I don't really wear makeup so might end up at work having to convince everyone dp isn't using me as a punchbag! Bless him though he is off today and just brought me tea and toast in bed

monkeyLFDTwench · 19/12/2011 12:29

Debi am tempted to make an appointment, if only to save myself the predictable trip to the out of hours GP service on Christmas Eve - that said, I do really support them in trying to limit antibiotics (though on Christmas Eve they hand them out like Santa's helpers handing out sweeties!) - will see how he does today, but he's usually much worse at night.

Quick question, do any of you use Medised? He's three so old enough according to the packaging (and my SIL swears by it) but I know it's out of favour now. He could really do with a decent night's sleep and so could I.

How is futurity - have those drugs kicked in yet?

cherry the burst blood vessels happened to me pushing out a bowling ball 9 lbs 10 oz ds2. I looked like I had really bad acne for a week.

rhet with you on the running fantasies. I felt very unsatisfied by my 6-7 miles yesterday because every time I got going there was ice and I was forced to walk. Will try and get out tonight, I feel tired from being up all night but not tired physically if you see what I mean Sad.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 19/12/2011 12:50

Cherry - DH had the burst blood vessels once after a bad night drinking as a student. We didn't realise what it was and he got rushed to hospital with a 'meningitis rash' (after calling NHS Direct). Went straight through casualty, saw a doctor who laughed and explained! Annoyingly, in the rush to get to hospital I'd left the bath running (top floor of student accommodation) and caused a bad flood Xmas Hmm I think the 'rash' cleared up fairly quickly after that!

Monkey - I think they changed the guidelines again on Medised so it's now 6+ (may be wrong though, my bottle still says 3+ but was bought a while ago). We haven't used it but I know people who do when they feel a poorly DC really needs a good night's sleep and I probably would under those circumstances too.

Rhet - I've used a wet towel over a warm radiator to help DCs with coughs/colds/congestion by making the room a bit more humid. Not sure how well it works but easy enough to do and no harm if it doesn't work.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 19/12/2011 13:02

Thanks Alma and monkey for reassurance. Just found a couple actually in my eye burst when putting contacts in but not painful at all

So then... Who wants to recommend a great concealer?? ( that morrisons might sell!)

Wheelybug · 19/12/2011 13:13

monkey - I used to use medised with dd1 when she was teething as she used to get really snotty and it stopped her sleeping when she has always been a good sleeper. At that time you could use it from 2 months. I even used it once - we were skiing and I had a terrible cold and couldn't sleep etc and didn't want to miss out so took the full
Dose on top of a bottle of wine and it worked a treat. Having said that, since they raised the age limit I have never used it. Dd1 has not needed it and with dd2 I try not to use things to help her sleep because if it works I might use it
Every night Grin. I have plenty of friends who use it under the 6 age limit because they used it when it was for 2 months+. I think there are two schools of thought on the raising of the age limit - one that it was to stop people misusing it or two, that the thing that clears you may be hallucinogenic. But if it was that bad, you wouldn't give it to a 6 year old.....perhaps don't give him the bottle of wine on top ?

Lots of illness for everyone. I hope everyone improves soon. rhet I hope dd2 is ok. Horrible when they are so small (remembers sobbing all over doctor with dd2 at 10 weeks when she developed a choking cough and had had me up all night panicking she was going to stop breathing).

11 miles for me this morning - very cold, chilly chilly hands for the first couple of miles but then warmed up but looked a funny colour and all puffy. Perhaps I need gloves. I just hate going out for a long run with too many gubbings as I know I'll get hot and want to get rid. Although I did do my whole run in long sleeve top, short sleeve top, long tights and headband and didn't feel too warm.

end of term tomorrow - yippee ! Although have to get through dd1's church service and dd2's Christmas party before we can celebrate !!

Trying to plan my runs next week with dh's family staying. In theory it should be easy as lots of people around but that also means lots of entertaining. But, I will need it I think. Need to do a 12 miler - and not just because it's a good excuse to get out for a whileGrin

sfxmum · 19/12/2011 13:26

Cherry foundation to cover that sort of thing only dermablend, think part of Vichy now, now sure Morrisons stock it
but ouch take it easy
