Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

Talking of Nissan Micras, DH used to import cars from Japan and he got my auntie a Micra. It must now be 17 years old and it's never ever failed her. Only ever needed brake pads redoing. Plus my cousin saw Keanu Reeves getting in one in LA! However they do look like a roller boot...

Great report ibby - I laughed at the part when you said you wanted to stamp your feet and cry, I was like that at Conwy Cockwatch.

Still in bed, don't know whether I can face the trio of terror...

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2011 08:14

LFDT fanny! Mine have been awake and screeching at each other (not fighting, just hyper) since 6.45. Too early for them but they're sharing a room. I'm working up to getting up!

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 08:19

I can't debi I have nothing left in me, the little sods have drained every last bit of substance from me. I'm hoping the cats will take over as mother figures and I can concentrate on Olympics 2016 marathon place...

DH is snoring.... Bastard.

Wheelybug · 21/12/2011 08:20

Great race report ibby ! I had that 'stamps foot and wants to cry feeling' around the same point in the GSR. Well done again.

bonkers - please could you ice mine whilst you're at it. I didn't even make it until the weekend just gone (stir up Sunday well and truly passed me by). I haven't even got the marzipan and icing.... Mind you, It's only for the MIL and Aunt in law.

Went out for 3 miles at 7 this morning so not as early as I thought I'd have to. Was surprisingly nice despite not much sleep and it being a bit drizzly. Now need to deal with the mounting panic within at how
Much I still have to do ....... Whilst reminding myself it's only 1 day and gets a grip. At least DH has got the hint that I am not impressed it was his idea to host (it's much easier not to go anywhere....) whilst working 7am to 10pm + and thereby getting out of all the hard work ([[//wink]Grin]) and is trying to not work on Friday. Hmmmm.

Wheelybug · 21/12/2011 08:20

Get out of bed you lot ! The day's half gone already GrinGrinGrin

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 08:27

I'm gonna say this with sheer love for you wheely FUCK OFF with ya 7am runs in winter!!! I'm staying in bed. I've emptied the contents of a small African country from this house over past week, I'm fucked.

Wheelybug · 21/12/2011 08:30

Actually, she says smugly, it was much warmer than when i was out at 930 Monday morning. Was wearing 1 layer less and didn't even feel cold when I started. Did I mention it was drizzling though Grin.

Right, written my list and it doesn't seem
So bad now until I realise all the things
I've left off.....

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 08:32

Go and ice bonkers cake for her wheely - sure you've got the time Wink

Have to say I have fuck all to do as my wonderful SIL hosts the fambo on Christmas Day and we'll just throw a few pound notes her way to cushion the blow. Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 21/12/2011 08:44

remember pound notes! Tho yes, we're off to Mum and Dad's for Christmas, and my brother makes the cake (he does the icing = art form thing, so there's absolutely no point me competing). So very little stress here (Smuggy McSmuggins ;) )

Except about running! It's only been a few days, but I feel like I wouldn't remember how to order my legs now. Looking forward to getting down to the parents at which point DB and I will head for the hills. I got him a dayglo top for Christmas, and given he's already 6'4 he's going to look like a the Big FreakyYellow Giant (especially if he wears the matching beanie Grin).

The rest of my family are still abed, but next door they've got the chainsaws out Hmm

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 21/12/2011 09:02

We go to my parents for Christmas so nothing to do :) Although my ILs are coming here for breakfast so that's something, but I was just going to do a buffet and then MIL will complain that there's no scrambled eggs. Once before I had them for Christmas dinner and she complained that I hadn't cooked the chicken (didn't seem worth getting a whole turkey) on a beer can Xmas Confused

Still feeling poorly today so will have to give running a miss but hopefully make it to Running Club tomorrow. I have done some crunches so I don't feel too useless.

monkeyLFDTwench · 21/12/2011 09:11

Chainsaws?! Is this a regular thing?!

We're at home for Christmas and BD, my family are over for lunch on BD so I get to do the whole turkey fandango twice.

Then the day after at the ILs which I dread every year. Hideous overcooked dry turkey, boiled to feeding-tube-consistency veg. Oh and all veg have both sugar and salt added in huge quantities and so are rank. Topped off by what we call the Running Bum Buffet in the evening - a selection of traditional meats, salads and sandwiches all of which have been left uncovered on the kitchen worktop since 11 am.

I spend most of my time quietly hissing "don't eat that" to the boys whilst trying to eat only the dry food like crisps .....

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 09:35

Ahhh chainsaws and sugared veg, must be Christmas Hmm

Wheely. 7am??? You are mad, woman, but am secretly jealous/impressed

nothing to organise foodwise as heading north for Xmas, but need to make packing list today and then contemplate hideousness of trying to fit it all in 2 rucksacks. Just as well I have no clothes as nothing flipping fits!

Only thing I MUST do today is finish my fecking schools application abd if I don't may all the little elves and pixies cut my hands off in my sleep.

Going to see Arthur Christmas today. Yayyy. Anyone seen it?

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 09:43

Have a great time in Aberdeen Debi., my friends were building snowmen there the other day!

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 21/12/2011 10:00

I've seen Arthur Christmas twice, once at cinema with DD and once with DH, we all loved it!

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 10:22

peach I loved Arthur's Christmas.

rhetorician · 21/12/2011 10:30

lots of chat on here this morning - boredome/avoidance? I just did a slowish 5 miles (would love to have just kept going..) - lack of sleep is having an impact (I'm getting about 5+ hours a night, so not too bad) and it was very very windy. I do miss my longer runs though.

Better a Nissan Micra than a Toyota Yaris (shudder); one day I am going to own a car with an engine bigger than 1.3l - I like to drive and I like to drive fast

Today is d-day - almost all the christmas shopping must get done today or else (dd1 at nursery), but we are sat here waiting for HV to come.

We are staying put and family will call in for drinks on Christmas Day - no guests or visitors otherwise, so we are just planning a special meal for the day, and will otherwise surround ourselves with choc, dvds and strong drink...(am slightly dreading having to keep dd1 entertained from 23rd Dec- 3rd Jan, but hey)

right going to shower and get out - I might even manage to get out and back before hv appears

cestlavie · 21/12/2011 10:40

Very funny fanny, trying to get cats to take over as mother figures Grin have managed to train our cat not to piss everywhere but making a bowl of hot porridge is some way beyond its ken...

peach loved Arthur Christmas as well. In fact I'd happily go and see it again, and not just cos there's a bar just outside the cinema it's showing in! (You've got some pretty scary elves down there in Dulwich by the way)

Sorry you're still struggling alma. Hope you get off the sick bench soon.

monkey and wheely I'll let you know about L2B if you're really interested. Am thinking about doing it with a couple of mates from uni but no fixed plans yet.

Great report by the way ibby. I think there probably are more men than women on the races I've done recently but hard to say. Am usually a bit more focused on me and don't take in much that's going on around me.

We're doing Christmas for everyone as usual this year which is great. Love being at home for it and doing the cooking and stuff because tis on our terms because we're wonderful and charming hosts. Can't wait!

And in other exciting news, it's my birthday today and amongst various gifts were... a pair of Brookes Racer ST5's.

They're so amazing. DW and kids tried best to be excited but think they were more struck by the blazing orange colour than anything else. Can I tell you how much they weigh? 8oz! Ran in through Primrose Hill and Regents Park and they are wonderful... like running in, um, really springy, feather-light, wonder shoes (note despite book fetish, clearly cannot think of a decent metaphor). Am even going to wear them out for dinner tonight...*

(* to be discussed with DW who may, I suspect, have a different view as to whether bright orange racing shoes go with a suit)

sfxmum · 21/12/2011 10:49

hello

wheely well done, it is much warmer today, in fact it was warmer last night than on the morning

fanny you need a nanny or a wife

I did go to bed extraordinarily early last night, I kept trying to stay awake until at least 10pm for respectability sake

off to shop with dd still a few bits to get, in the meantime she is distracted with Hobbit stuff, I may come to regret encouraging the geekness
no running until tomorrow this week has been maintenance runs only just to keep cobwebs away

sfxmum · 21/12/2011 10:50

and happy birthday cestlavie that is not a bad start to gifts Xmas Smile

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 10:58

Oh Happy Birthday cest. I looked at those trainers in Runnersneed however they aren't great for long distance training are they...? Very jealous though. My
Brooks seem to be standing me in good stead so far in marathon training do I won't change. Have a good meal tonight and hey, if you wanna wear fresh to death orange trainers you go ahead. However you may find you are sat all alone!

rhet funnily enough my mum has a Yaris and my auntie is swapping Micra for one too! I have a 9 year old Renault Scenic, I once drove cars worthy of WAG status but I'm happy with my little metallic dark red heap of shit. Hey, you're getting out running, don't worry too much at the mo re pace etc.

On our run last night my friend was complaining of tendon pain in left ankle after our 20 miler. She then went over on her right foot as it was so dark. Sad. She had now injured both ankles and is gutted. Shows you how you can be flying with training then BAM you're fucked.

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 10:59

sfx I'm cut out for 3 kids BUT only part time. Just need to organise the other half of caring for them. Anyone help? Cats don't seem to give a shit. I'm gonna stop giving them Iams cat food and give them Aldi's instead. That'll set the "cat among the pigeons".

cestlavie · 21/12/2011 11:03

Think they're meant to be good for marathon distance fanny but probably better for HM and 10K. Guy who I was speaking to at Runners Need wears them for marathons but then he runs 10K's in 32 minutes so may not be best guide as to what is normal!

rhetorician · 21/12/2011 11:14

oh fuck, am being headhunted for a job in Brisbane...

ibbydibby · 21/12/2011 11:25

Happy Birthday cest am v envious of trainers, reminds me that a) I was emailed a £10 voucher for Sweatshop t'other day (min spend of £75 I think) and it needs to be spent before Christmas, b) I need new trainers c) it is payday TODAY....I better get a move on, have seen my Nikes at £40ish and DH also wants some more so hopefully we can get an order together.

Got up uncharacteristically (for me) early at 6am, off to Sainsburys at 7am. Returned home to unpack shopping then rush out again to take DS1 to meet with his brass band. They have gone to well known holiday place in forest (CP) to play festive tunes to the holiday makers there. Part of the deal is they get to have a swim as well. Have not seen him so excited in a longgg time - he was high as a kite this morning.

Got home and discovered an email from Runners World saying I had won a prize in their advent comp - a SIS nutrition pack. Something to look forward to in the post!

Now off to make oodles of soup for lunch gathering tomorrow.

For Christmas DAy we will be at my sister's, as will my mum. We provide and prepare the veg (will be 10 of us), plus we have ordered Christmas flower arrangement to be delivered on Friday. (Not my usual thing but they have had sad year, with both BIL's parents dying - his mum just a couple of weeks ago).

Cest am never really aware of the male/female split whilst running - it is just when I am looking at the results, and working out my placing amongst females only, that I am aware of how few women there are. However the club I am in has a very enthusiastic female section (at present) - there may be fewer women, but we have a greater tendency to enter races than the blokes.

It was something of a relief to read that several of you have experienced "stamp foot want to cry" moments...not sure where mine came from this time.

Alma hope you feel better soon
