Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
monkeyLFDTwench · 20/12/2011 19:10

sfx you are much more fun than the Beckhams I would imagine. Although - shameless namedrop - one of my friends had a son at school with the Beckham boys, and she said (1) DB is friendly and pleasant but much slighter than you would think and very scruffy (2) the children themselves are delightful, polite and not at all spoilt. So in my book they are doing something very right Smile.

drN I am very disappointed in you. I was looking forward to a micropenis reference. You've let me down, lady. I hope your dental floss thong doesn't chafe too much tonight or you'll be getting DH to rub cream goodness knows where ....

peach that's a shocker about the sculpture - I mean wtaf is anyone going to do with it?

Alma sorry to hear you're on the sicky bench. Hope you feel better soon.

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 19:21

Hey monkey I said I'd be interested in London to Brighton but you ignored me .

Actually I may have just sat on the fence and asked for more info but you ignored me nonetheless

peach terrible about sculpture. There was a war one just before rememberance Sunday too. Disgusting on both accounts.

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 19:23

Monkey - I can believe that about the beckhams. I'm fairly indifferent about the pair of them but they do seem to mostly do things right for their kids.

monkeyLFDTwench · 20/12/2011 19:23

Sorry wheely! Yes you're right you did. 33 miles each then so far? Grin

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 19:31

monkey, it's bronze so they are probably going to sell it for metal, but not for much. Can you tell I am fuuuuuuuurious!

Debi, glad you mad it to Scotland. Let the festivities begin! Don't let us athiests put you off, this thread is nothing if not inclusive!! Smile. Will be joining you up north on Friday! Where in Scotland have you gone?

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 19:33

Eek monkey ! It's km isn't it ? Still, what's 33k in miles ?? Too many for me I think Grin. Roll up roll up.....

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 19:35

Yes, have never heard a bad word said about the Beckham children. Saying that though, we are never done hearing about VB's sense of humour and self-depracation, so why does she always have a face like a skelped arse!!!! Wink

monkeyLFDTwench · 20/12/2011 19:36

Um is it nearly 20? If 10k is about 6 miles.

Shocking that a sculpture is basically going to end up as scrap. Says it all really Sad.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 19:38

Ohhhh, you do it in teams? Right, right. Might be a bit optimistic for me for May. Sorry bout ignoring you monkey!!

monkeyLFDTwench · 20/12/2011 19:40

S'alright am used to it . Grin

sfxmum · 20/12/2011 19:40

monkey I am fairly sure I am not more fun just fatter Grin
I expect the children to be well brought up, they seem very disciplined and hard working, that is a tight brand they have

debi glad you made it safely and on time, just about. I recall in our childless days taking the Glasgow train to visit dh's parents in Preston at Christmas, I don't think we ever had a seat, not something I would contemplate these days, although driving up is pretty tedious too

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 20/12/2011 20:06

Meant to say, really sad about the sculpture being stolen :(

orangeLFDThead · 20/12/2011 20:16

Oh dear, hope you feel better soon and in time for christmas.
I seem to be coughing less tonight Smile

orangeLFDThead · 20/12/2011 20:31

Just found a couple of walks going on near me, the bullock smithy 56 mile hike Shock and the Grindleford Gallop 21 miles this one has walkers and runners. Dh does'nt run but loves hiking so would be nice to do together. Quite tempted.

AngeChica · 20/12/2011 22:35

Has everyone buggered off at 8.30pm? Well ibby I'll be no help ... i had a job interview last week and i had to do a presentation and I was sooooooo cringe-worthily bad. Tummy bug, fuckup job interview, DS getting conjunctivitis and shitting myself all week about dad's latest MRI, last week was fairly horrific. but..... the MRI was all good, so this means we can all relax and look forward to Christmas. We're breaking the journey to Suffolk with a Travelodge, £12 deal but we had to pay £20 supplement for the dog Hmm.

Your DP will love the Kindle rhet. Will be great for BF. Have had Kindle for a year now and I do love it. As the granddaughter of a bookseller, I was a bit sniffy at first. I still like to pick up a book and look at it before buying. It's good for the classics and I trawl Amazon looking for the bargains, unfortunately this means I end up buying crap teen vampire fiction by mistake occasionally.

AngeChica · 20/12/2011 22:39

The marathong is real.

fannybanjo · 20/12/2011 22:42

I have an iPad - inscribed and all.

I wear a cheese string thong even on 20 milers.

I do not believe in God.

My kids are pains in the arse at Christmas time.

I bin books.

I once bought a bed made of belt straps.

I've been for a 7.6 mile run and 'twas hard.

bonkersLFDT20 · 20/12/2011 22:57

My Delia Xmas cake is not going to ice itself, right?

Add that to the list then........

I cannot fit Christmas in my 22 year old Nissan Micra.

ibbydibby · 20/12/2011 23:19

Crikey it's quiet tonight.

Thanks for encouraging comments re job interview. Rather stupidly the thing that panics me most is not knowing whether or not I will be standing up or sitting down for the presentation. Standing up I suppose. I am freaked by that thought. Hmm Rhet yes I will take up your offer of advice and will PM you soon when I can compose my thoughts. Your gifts to DP are lovely and thoughtful!

Feeling like a headless chicken at the moment, trying to get some work done with slightly pushy and jargonified colleague, still writing Christmas cards, DS1 had 2 teeth out yesterday, needed a lot of pampering as in a lot of pain (he is 15 and does not have hypochondriac tendencies, so when he says it hurts - it does...Also have my sister's MIL's funeral on Thurs, and I am cooking some of the lunch for that....pressies to wrap, still, etc etc.

Anyway, thought I would catch up with a report on the Turkey Trot on Sunday.

So, woke up on Sunday and decided to do it - had not previously registered etc. Did my usual pre-race faff which drives DH mad. Drive to venue took longer than anticipated, due to icy roads locally, main roads better.

Arrived with 15 minutes to spare which was cutting it a bit fine! Anyway registered no problem and still had time for a wee. Fortunately v short loo queue. Jogged down road to start, freezing cold. There had been odd flurries of snow and a heavy frost overnight, so added to the cold feeling! Lovely blue sky and sunshine though. Luckily not much hanging around. Got into steady rhythm, then after a mile or so noticed I had a long shoe lace "tail" and even though my laces looked/felt tight, I knew it would worry me so I stopped to re-tie. Annoying but sometimes I find little stops like this calm me down, somehow......

First water stop at 3 miles, water was ice cold and was actually a bit of a shock to the system. Soon after, sun went in and it started snowing quite heavily. Panicked about how I was going to drive home!! Was hard running in snow as it was getting in my eyes, but only lasted for about 10 minutes fortunately.

Struggled at around 8 or 9 miles - weirdly just wanted to stamp my feet and cry. However pushed on to finish. Finish was weird as I could not actually see where it was - no finish "blimp". Water and Christmas pud given out at end, then back in Sports Centre there were all sorts of yummy cakes, crisps, mince pies, tea & coffee on offer. Yum!

According to results I finished 100th out of 158 runners, 20th female (out of 50). Am beginning to realise that there are far fewer female runners out there - in competions anyway. Does anyone else notice this?

Weird clothing moment - bloke in v tight white shorts which, from the back, seemed to be transparent.....Hmm

Bonkers I have a Nissan Micra too (though "only" 9 years, but knackered)

DebiTheScot · 20/12/2011 23:31

fanny your post at 22.40 and then yours minkey just after it made me laugh Smile

peach I'm in Dundee now but then heading up to Aberdeenshire ( near possum) on Thurs for Christmas. The train journey wasn't bad at all, not as busy as I expected.

Right off to read more Born to Run, night all.

DebiTheScot · 20/12/2011 23:33

minkey?? Sorry!

Also meant to say Ibby I suspect 1/3 female runners in a race is actually a high proportion.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 21/12/2011 07:41

Ibby - race sounds great! Do you think women are less competitive? I notice at Running Club that there aren't as many men but they are mostly in the top groups and all seem to race. A lot of the women I've chatted to have no intention of racing, and even when they're very good.

monkeyLFDTwench · 21/12/2011 08:01

Quite liking Minky ...... am considering a namechange to ShredMeJillian, what do you think? Wonder if it's taken. Or maybe IWantToBeNatalieNotAnita.

fannybanjo · 21/12/2011 08:05

Better than shagmeJillian s'pose Minky
