Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 20/12/2011 13:48

Mine have no aspirations other than being Nicky Minaj. I have truly failed as a parent.

Grin cest - yes, son, you can be God. Makes sense really!

fannybanjo · 20/12/2011 13:50

cest I agree, there is some good bits in bible and growing up as a catholic I loved it. However being a cynical old twat age 36 and three quarters, I have no faith in Christianity.

orangeLFDThead · 20/12/2011 14:09

Thats good weight gain peach

orangeLFDThead · 20/12/2011 14:09

Baby peach that is not you personally peach

SonicMiddleAge · 20/12/2011 14:10

Well in our house, dd1 had been learning at daycare a particularly sacharine Xmas sing with the line "mary, you're going to have a baby" and dd2 is at that stage where bowel movements are hilarious, so we've been treated to dd2 dancing round singing "mary, you're going to have a pop pop" most mornings...

SonicMiddleAge · 20/12/2011 14:12

Poo poo even bloody hello, how prissy is my phone...

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 16:02

It's hard when you've been out all day keeping up on here. Dd1's end of term church service followed by dd2's nursery Christmas party. I'm not sure which one
I enjoyed least Wink

My dd1 goes to a C of E school so does tend to come out with a lot of, ahem, wise words on the subject of God. And makes us get up and go to church on a Sunday because she loves it so much. If you can get Anglican nuns I think she might be heading that way (although think we might be safe because she wouldn't be allowed to wear a pretty dress !)

So end of term all round, now just the panic to get everything ready for the in laws arriving.

Quite pleased it's the end of term even if it means having to get up silly early tomorrow to get a run in before DH goes out.

Knee sounds grim sonic - hope you're not out for long. I agree with who said that we all fear injury. Am paranoid. I was having knee cap twinges after my longer runs but seems ok this week.

kindles are great - I didn't think I'd like it because I love books but I do like using it and great for holidays. I also think perfect for reading whilst breastfeeding.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 17:07

DD has a Noah book that someone gave her. She occasionally asks me to read it and have to stop myself from snorting my way through it's ridiculousness. We are confirmed athiests in this house though DP has Buddhist tendencies Hmm.

Cest, the L to B sounds mental. Am off to google it now!!

Am becoming more and more convinced that I NEED a kindle. And also an Ipad.

Some utter swine has stolen the Barbara Hepworth sculpture from Dulwich Park, probably for scrap metal. Am so upset by this, we go and play at that scuplture all the time. Why are people such little shits???

cestlavie · 20/12/2011 17:27

I know peach - learning to bite your tongue on these things is a little tricky sometimes I find. Do check out the L to B - sounds absolutely fantastic and a great run to do with equally insane friends!

Wheely, have got a Kindle for DW for Christmas. I just cannot bring myself to get one for me - it just seems so wrong. Our house is full of books everywhere and I love them...!

sfxmum · 20/12/2011 17:27

yes yes I want an ipad too, there was one given away at our school Christmas fayre, the person who won it spent about £30 in tickets, I sold them, excellent investment

DrNortherner · 20/12/2011 18:00

An ipad was given away at the school fayre?! Jesus sfx are you Victoria Beckham? It's all mango chutney and bottles of Scheleur at ours....

I didn't say micro penis in my microsite meeting

Agree rhet they are lovely gift ideas for dp, very thoughtful.

peach how does someone steal a sculpture?! I was working at a hotel in a big city centre years ago as a receptionist when 2 guys turned up and aid they had come to take away the 2 rugs in the lobby for dry cleaning, go ahead I said. Cue Head housekeeper yelling 'where have the oriental rugs from the lobby gone?!' Turns out they cost ££££££ and had not been taken away for cleaning at all. ooops.

I feel like randomly posting marathong link on random threads to see is anyone fucking notices I AM HERE!!!! I really only post on this thread nowadays.....

I'd love an Ipad too.

Anyway, the office is full of mince pies, Quality Street, Thorntons chocs ad Hotel Chocolat goodies from suppliers so I need not worry about finding extra calories Grin

Off to get kit on for my club run followed by chips n beer.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 20/12/2011 18:01

Bah, felt fine this morning but have developed a fever and rotten cough over the day, spent the afternoon on the sofa with the duvet making the DCs watch Christmas movies. No running club for me tonight!

My childhood bible was horribly gory and unpleasant, I used to read it when I wanted a bit of a scary thrill Xmas Blush The DCs have a children's bible but it's all modern and very gentle. Some of the stories do make me Xmas Hmm though.

I'd love a Kindle. My beloved tablet is away being repaired and it's driving me insane!

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 18:06

I would agree with you cest re books - we have lots of floor to ceiling bookcases all over and I love buying, reading, keeping etc. But for hols a kindle is great - a much lighter way of taking 10 books away ! I've probably only downloaded about a dozen books onto it this year (and read about 4 times as many paper books) but I've liked reading on it much more than I thought I would.

Would be good for commuting I would think (and bf - ing of course !)

rhetorician · 20/12/2011 18:10

I agree about books too, my whole life is based on them/in them. But I do increasingly feel the pressure of the space they take up - and about 10 years ago did finally concede that some books just had to be handed on once they'd been read. I am now quite brutal about shedding them if I am not going to read them again. I have wall to ceiling books in my office too, and often end up buying a copy of something I need because it is either at home or at work when I need it to be in the other place. This is how you end up with 5 copies of Great Expectations (that and merging your books with someone equally bibliophiliac)

just totally lost the wig with dd1 and her incessant pouring games...Blush

sfxmum · 20/12/2011 18:18

rhet very nice presents lovely and thoughtful, especially the time alone bit

books my house if full of them they dominate the sitting room but every room as a few including the hall, I am sure the bigger the house the bigger the collection, and we use the library too

drN what ever do you mean?
no it is a normal state community school, the one up the road, has much more expensive prizes,VA school, I can only imagine what the private ones offer

DrNortherner · 20/12/2011 18:27

peach you think you are made of girrrrders? I am off out on a 90 min club run with earache slight throb, red raw pits and a thong up my backside. I'm pretty rock hard too you know.

Wheelybug · 20/12/2011 18:31

You northern types are well 'ard. It'll be the chips and beer Grin

Hope the ear ache comes to nothing !

rhetorician · 20/12/2011 18:31

dr no I sincerely hope that it's a marathong; we would be disappointed in anything less Wink

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 18:31

I love books too, but as a non house owner, took the decision a while ago, only to keep things I think I'd read again, as just to much of a pain to move them all the time, and find new homes for them.

Also love the library, though our local one is closed just now because the roof leaked and the water ruined the electrics. And why did the roof leak? Because some twats stole the copper for scrap!!!! What is it with people round here!!! DrNo, apparently the thieves cut the sculpture off it's plinth. Bloody great thing it was too. I was getting upset about the scuplture theft and DD said "Dont worry they'll get a new one". Couldn't really explain it is a half million pound sculpture by a deceased artist so no they won't be getting a new one!!! Am really mad about it. Grrrrrr

peachLFDTsmuggler · 20/12/2011 18:33

Grin DrNo, enjoy!

Cest, just looking at the L to B 100k. Blimey! Are you planning on running it???? Like, as in, the whole thing??? Shock

sfxmum · 20/12/2011 18:36

missed that about the Hepworth theft the little shits!

DebiTheScot · 20/12/2011 18:37

Have made it to Scotland in 1 piece, well 3 pieces and 4 bags. Train was only 20 minutes late so won't be getting any money back for that journey.

I won't mention my religious views as clearly in the minority Grin

Ouch sonic, hope your recovery isn't too long.

I've got dh a Scotland Rugby League shirt and a subscription to a rugby league magazine.
I tried hard not to get random crap for the stockings but it's hard not to! Dh has to bring the stocking stuff up or there will be big trouble!
He's also got to bring my running stuff as I didn't have room for it.

DebiTheScot · 20/12/2011 18:44

Haha DrNo, how much trouble did you get into for the rug theft!

monkeyLFDTwench · 20/12/2011 18:58

Oooh cest are you serious about the L to B? That's the one I linked to earlier but I'm a Nora No Mates so no-one was interested. Want to go halves? Grin

Now on the subject of religion, I have to say that I have huge respect for people who have a faith and live by it. Not bothered what faith, but I do think it brings a lot of comfort and joy to many individuals. BUT I hate it when religion is used as a political bargaining chip (yes Mr Cameron, that's you I'm looking at right now).

And cest you'd better get used to an outbreak of religious exuberance two years before your oldest gets to secondary age. Honestly, the numbers of people I know who have "found God" and a good reason not to pay school fees any more and start going to church to get into the state boarding school in your new town! Wink And daft anyway because you have two other fantastic - and in my view better - secondaries less than a mile apart. One of my friends started going to church and was approached by the vicar the first time, who said "some of our parents parishioners prefer to make their contributions by direct debit" and handed her the form! Christian, huh?!

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 20/12/2011 19:01

I love books too, but had to decide to get a bit more sensible about getting rid of some. I keep quite a few but move them on if I know I'm not likely to read it again. I've been using the local library a lot more as well. I'm a librarian so a bit obsessed. My parents downsized from the family home a couple of years ago and there were so many books. Dad has a second hand bookshop habit which isn't good for decluttering!
